Law School & Med School play football in the "Malpractice Bowl," so they wanted something unique for the hockey tournament.
-
any thoughts on the name for the trophy? I've suggested the Sticks and Stones Cup, the Quack Plaque, the Ca$h Award and the Ig-noble Prize.
-
I'm now told that the law school team includes two guys (F, D) that played D-III, one guy who had a cup of coffee in Junior A, one guy cut twice from Junior A and a handful who played high school. BTW, they're looking for a name for the tournament trophy. Any ideas?

I don't have enough info for a full-scale scouting report. One of the players, a Canadian law student, assures me that if only he and 5 teammates of his choice played, their skill level would be senior league-equivalent. Not as good as Warroad Lakers, though, I'm told.
-
oh, no. I have never been up on skates. I'll watch.

I'm announcing that all fans attending the regional are welcome to watch the UND Law School hockey team play the first two games of a best-of-three series against the team from the Med School. Rules are being negotiated as I post. It's sue-ers vs. sew-ers. Game time is Saturday, the 25th, at 11:30 a.m. at Purpur Arena, near the corner of Washington & Demers in Grand Forks. Second game Sunday at 2 p.m., also at Purpur. No charge to attend.

I share your opinion. ZJo is a real battler against the boards.

I think the gaff was intended as an inside joke in a game of chicken where each of the jokesters thought the other jokester would correct the name right before the poster was printed. Reminds me of an episode of the old "Mary Tyler Moore Show" (perhaps you youngesters have seen it on Nick at Night?) where a bleary-eyed Mary has to pull an all nighter to write on-file obituaries and her pal Rhoda dictates satirical versions which Mary dutifully transcribes. Highjinks ensue when one of the joke obits makes it on air, read with the usual panache by anchorman Ted Baxter.
-
Thanks, PCM! MafiaMan, you are SO looking like Howie Mandel!
-
Well, the only other entity "sponsoring" the poster is the WCHA. Is it responsible?

And I hope no Gopher fan is insensitive enough to refer to Tony the Q as Ralphin' in the Ralph.
-
Yes, and you were robbed for the Dance Mania Championship award. Lucia must have cast his ballot for that geeky squeegee, Sponge Bob.
-
Is Holy Cross' goalie Tony Quesada the same goalie who tossed his quesadillas in the regional game against the Sioux a couple of years ago? I swear at the Final 5, every time the Keebler giveaway was announced with the line "we're about to toss our cookies," I flashed back on that sight.

The Herald used exactly that headline ("MVParise") in their tournament story.
-
No, that donut sign wasn't mine. It was in the next section over. I'm probably not the first to make the Duncan Donuts play on words.
-
Yes, thanks MM! That was a great time. BTW, was that Runninwiththedogs on the Dance Mania cam?
-
yeah, made ya look! After something of a hiatus, I am making signs again. Had several with me at the Final 5. NDH's gang will bring the "[Heart] 2 H8 Go4s" & "License to Kill Gophers" sign with them to the Ralph this weekend. I'd be happy to make a poster for anyone who'd like one. Right now, I'm working on: "Keep Duncan that Donut! Go Ryan!" "UND Young Guns Rule the West" "Toews Paves the Way" If you have a favorite player, I'm sure I could think of some quasi-clever sign to tout him. Post ideas/requests here. Let's hope Holy Cross hasn't given up scoring for Lent. Go Crusaders. You're my second favorite team in the Shiverin' 16.

The Herald says Stafford is day-to-day. Chris Berman, I think, said, "we're ALL day-to-day."
-
A Gopher fan razzed me--good-naturedly--about the poster, shouting "Let's go Bison." I said something on the order of, "Thanks. The cow colleges gotta stick together."
-
Did you want to wait that long, JFR? If not, I will mail you the tapes and you can return them when you're done viewing.
-
I am giddy at the thought of watching Ryan "Duncan" the donut for another three years. He's going to score lots of goals.
-
Hi, JFR. I've got the three games on VHS. I don't think I have your address so PM me with it. I may not be able to drop them in the mail to you until after I get back from the Cities. Maybe PCM would be willing to transfer them to DVD for you?
-
Proof once again that the beloved sport of hockey is proudly the most politically incorrect of them all. I wonder what Mr. or Ms. Petry's take on this giveaway would be? http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200...ws/6288520.html

Awww... Some of you pilot types tell me: I'm flying in from GFK at 11 a.m. tomorrow, in the Cities an hour or so later. Any problems, takeoff-wise or landing-wise because of this projected storm?
