  1. Stop in Deadwood? Al told me we'd be stopping overnight in Grand Island, Nebraska. Obviously, some of the gamblers on the bus talked him into Deadwood.
  2. Here's the link to text of Illinois' last appeal. When you get there, click on "NCAA Appeal 1/31/06" in the box at left side of page: http://www.uillinois.edu/trustees/index.html
  3. TJordan: I've sent you a PM about ZPar memorabilia I have if you want it. Doesn't include a Zach card but does include JPar's and there's a bunch of other pretty good Zach stuff. Don't want a dime for any of it: consider it my gift to you.
  4. This is a good idea! Sioux fans and opposing fans from other WCHA teams should adopt a tradition like this. Not sure of the design, but the trophy that travels between Sioux fans and Gopher fans could be called "The Sioux or Rat Trophy." (say that out loud fast...)
  5. Sioux-cia: In the past, Al has been willing to find tickets for those fans who make their own way to the venue. If the trip goes forward, I'm sure he could set you up with seats among the rest of us.
  6. I almost titled this "Join the Mile High Club," just to be sure the post got read... I heard from a fellow traveler that Al Pearson is planning to organize Sioux fans for a trek to Denver for the Feb. 24-25 series. I haven't heard anything about it yet from the Cowboy Hatted One himself, but how great would that be! I need to scratch off from my "To Do Before I Retire" list a visit to Denver's barn. I'll let you know once Al has formalized the plan.
  7. West Georgia, formerly the Braves, is now the Wolves. You'll recall that UWG solicited input from the NCAA whether there was enough of a difference between the "Braves" and "The Brave" to render the latter NOT hostile/abusive despite the NCAA's position that the former was. Perhaps if UWG had followed in Carthage's footsteps (NCAA approved change from "Redmen" to "Red Men"), UWG would now be known as the " Bra Ves" instead of the "Wolves." I especially like the idea that the transportation system will now be called "Howl on Wheels" and the U's tour guides will be known as "Where Wolves." ("Where wolf? There wolf!") 8. I'm casting my lot with Old Barn Guy and against the board's "compassionate" conservatives. C'mon, guys! No one likes to lose; losing sucks. But what sucks worse is beating up on a team that's already, I don't doubt, beating up on themselves. Tonight, we'll see the team come out flying, passes connecting and biscuits in the basket. Sioux by 3 is a good call. I may be wrong but I'll still be there. This is my team. I hurt when they lose; I exult when they win. Tonight, I plan to be doin' some exulting.
  9. Yes, and Carthage has to undertake an "educational" campaign to make the disassociation clear to anyone who can't quite figure it out themselves or who has a memory of the old name "Redmen" and of the feathers that, in a previous life, stuck out from the "C" logo.
  10. Just received a call from Al Pearson telling me that the bus trip to Houghton for this weekend's series has been cancelled for lack of interest. That's a shame; it would have been a really great trip.
  11. This got lost when the board went down earlier this week. Anyone who thinks that a name change is no biggie should acquaint themselves with the process ongoing at West Georgia. Click on this link and those in the box on the left of that page for an indication of the kinds of money, effort and energy even a more or less WELCOMED name-change requires. No school will ever find a name/logo that will be immediately embraced by every constituency nor one that is teflon-coated such that no unintended puns can be made on that name. 13. Thank you, schmidtdoggydog; that would be great. I DID find the all-time roster on that website but not the one for the 86-87 year. It doesn't list jersey numbers, though. Can anyone help with that?
  14. Thanks, everyone. I've taken the print in to be framed. The framer thinks she can smooth out some wrinkles that developed because the print was stuffed in someone's closet for 18 years. Once framed, it'll make a nice complement to the opening night at the new REA print my students gave me last year. I couldn't locate any mention of the "Dream Team" artwork on the net, not even on a wesbite listing Patrick Tupa's work. The margin of the print indicates that there were 1000 numbered prints so I'm sure there must be others out there. Meanwhile, can anyone direct me to a roster for the 86-87 team? The Frozen Four record book (downloadable) promises championship rosters on the cover but it's really just a team photo so you can't identify most players by number. When I get the print back, I'll try to match the faces with the team photo.
  15. I recently came into possession of a copy of a print by artist Patrick Tupa entitled "Dream Team." It's a painting of the 86-87 championship team. I can identify some of the usual suspects (Hrkac, Joyce, Belfour) but wonder if anyone else has a copy of this print and could put names to the faces?

    bus to duluth

Al always manages to score tickets for people not nearly so likeable as yourself so don't let him try to tell you any different. I'll be on the bus, assuming I have the usual dogs-sitter available.

    bus to duluth

Hi, MM. If I remember correctly, the bus fare is about $100 of that total. Don't remember exactly what the room rate is. Call Al and ask him about particulars.
  18. Al Pearson has his bus making the annual pilgrimage to Duluth next week. Price is $125 (tickets and transport); meals and hotel (Holiday Inn on the Skywalk), extra. He said he has about 10 seats left. It's a great trip with great people to watch a great hockey team. C'mon along. Al's number is 775-5565.

  22. What was the deal with that "Duck, Duck Goose" sort of drill the Green team did in warmups? Never saw that before but it was pretty cool when Oshie (I think) jumped over a teammate (looked like Digger Anderson's vault en route to the touchdown last year)
  23. I've had 7 or 8 people from the GF area express an interest and I have replied to each individually. So I am now closing the offer. If any tapes remain after these people have gone through them, I will post continuing availability. Thanks everyone for the overwhelming interest.
  24. Please accept my apologies if you tried to PM me about the tapes but didn't get a reply. My message folder was full and I couldn't get to the site until this morning. You can try again now. I have already had 4 or 5 PMs expressing interest and I did reply to those messages. I am not asking for any money for the tapes. It's only hockey, Dan, no football.
  25. I am trying to rid my house of clutter and I have a bunch of tapes of Sioux games, going back possibly 10 years. It's not a complete collection but it's a lot of tapes. They're all labelled so if you are looking for any particular game, send me a PM and I'll see if I have it. Or, if you want to take them all, and live in the Grand Forks area, I'd be happy to box them up for you.
