So things have changed a little bit with Borgstrom.  A couple of weeks ago the hockey pundits made it sound like he was very likely to come back.  If Montgomery does decide to leave, that will be a significant factor in some of these players decisions.  You just won a Natty, new coach coming in with a new personality and possible philosophical differences.  Life probably does not get better at DU than it was this past year.  I have no doubt they will continue to field a strong team, however they are losing a significant number of players and talent even without early departures.

Bjorgstrom and Monty should just go to Florida together.  Win-Win! :)

Friedman said it during the second intermission that he's the leading candidate for the Vegas job, I'm taking someone for their word on this.

Interesting move if true. Would think an expansion franchise would want someone with NHL experience, but it would certainly be a clean start for them.

I can't find it but someone on USCHO said Freidman said Monty to Las Vegas.

My guess would be Florida. Tandem deal with Borgstrom, haha!

He'd be a fool to leave DU now.  Hak's got about a year left in Philly before he's run out of town.

Perhaps, but if the best league in the world comes calling I don't know how you turn that down.

I think Maine could offer Jim Montgomery a million dollars a year to come to Alfond Arena to coach...and he'd say "nope."

    He'll get an NHL job.

Will be interesting to see how many of them leave early. Winning a National Title always seems to expedite departures.

Not to mention Montgomery. If he got looks last year, his stock is very high.  Already three NHL teams with interim coaches, so who knows.

Basically every Womens hockey player I have ever asked thinks it's stupid there is no checking since it allows the shity players to get by without needing to improve as much.

I'm not advocating for or against checking...just thinking out loud about how it would be implemented and what a potential unintended consequence could be.

It would certainly increase the entertainment value, but as for player development I could argue that a larger talent pool would force the "shity" players to improve more so than forcing them to deal with checking.  I could also argue that allowing checking in the world championships would widen the gap between the North American teams and the rest of the world, making the non-USA/Canada games even more unwatchable.  I feel they are that much better.

If checking means less players playing through High School, I don't want it.  If it doesn't affect growth or enhances it, put me in the "yes" column!  I gotta think/hope that it has at least been talked about or studied by the sport's governing bodies.

  8. Will adding checking at the higher levels, say 15U and above, increase or decrease the number of girls playing the sport at those levels?  If it causes the numbers to decline, I want nothing to do with checking.

This sport needs more athletes, plain and simple. The USA and Canada dominate because they have the numbers. The only way the college game will get better is if the talent pool grows.

Mediocre teams that can check are still mediocre.

Every spring, prepare yourself for the inevitable discussion as follows:

    "The big bad Bruins suck."

    "The Penguins suck worse."

"The Bruins spoked B is the best logo in all of sports."

"No way, the Penguins skating penguin is better."

    "They just copied Boston's colors."

"I don't care - Sidney Crosby is the greatest hockey captain in the history of sports."

    "Bobby Orr was the best."

    "No way.  Marc-Andre Fleury is."

Don't forget that anything goes as long as it's "within the context of the game."

That delay of game rule is needed.

Shoot the puck out of play without it going off the glass or deflected should be a penalty. It happened way too much this weekend.

Do all college rinks have the same height glass these days?  Could that be why it's not implemented?

  11. The other thing about these close offside reviews is that these plays are so close the integrity of the play isn't really compromised. If it was so obvious that the offside player gained an advantage, or if the defending team hesitated or stopped playing, the indisputable evidence would certainly be apparent on the replay and the reversal would be warranted.

  12. I've been thinking about this trend of reviewing offside zone entries on scoring plays, and I can't help but wonder why not extend it to dump-in zone entries?  Why don't we go back to make sure the puck carrier truly gained the red line on a dump-in entry that results in a goal?  I mean, we want to make sure we get it right, don't we?

Note: I hate offside reviews and am not in favor of this...just pointing out some of the inconsistencies with using video review to make sure we get calls right.  Of course, linesmen would actually have to take the red line as seriously as the blue line.

  13. I wasn't at Scheels Arena, but I was at the Ralph in 2006.  It's no question that the Ralph in 2006 was the best atmosphere I had ever been a part of...but what if Holy Cross hadn't happened?  From the look of the atmosphere at Scheels arena on TV, even without a significant upset of the gophers that place looked intense.

It's a difficult comparison because a pretty significant component of arena atmosphere depends on what's happening on the ice.

Oh, come on, juat like giving you, Rat77, and Goon some Bruin grief.

I apologize. I'm a tad ornery from how the B's played tonight in Ottawa.  If they lose again Wednesday I'll probably feel worse than after the Michigan State weekend! :D

Great...a Bruins fan chimed in.  Cue "kevad" and the negative reps...

BTW, corrected some English in your post.  ;)

Thanks for the correction. I'd really hate for my point to be lost due to poor subject/verb agreement.  It sucks not being perfect.

This just is more proof that Target Center doesn't get it.  How many NBA teams share arena's with hockey teams and don't have these issues.  Like I said, Tibs meet Josh and get this fixed.

The unusual weather fluctuations this early in March certainly doesn't help. There was a tornado warning NW of the metro this evening.

Here's what I don't get - I wish someone could explain it to me

How can over half of this year's team be on a national championship team who's locker room probably set a new standard for work ethic and inspired play from the stars to the bottom and then come this year play like they are mailing it in.  I get we had a couple of fantastic leaders in the locker room last year, but you would think something would have worn off and stuck for this year.  If you go down the roster, the amount of players who improved from last year is laughable.  It's like we are in Bizarro Sioux land.  Time to clean house for the non-hackers.

Perhaps there was less desire/preparation in this particular offseason for some reason????
