  1. I think that week is also used for travel plans

Doubtful. B-ball regionals end Mar 31 and Final Four starts April 6. Wouldn't you think basketball teams would need just as much planning time if that we're the case for hockey? I believe the extra week for hockey is to avoid conflict with basketball.

  2. The other thing I find frustrating is that they say they're sticking with Ponder so he can continue to develop and learn. Well...when your game plan is to turn and hand the ball to AD 30+ times, what exactly is Ponder learning? Basically they're telling him just to be ready to throw a check-down on 3rd and short.

During yesterday's game, the Vikings got the ball with just under two minutes left in the first half and a couple timeouts. Most teams would love to have that opportunity to put more points on the board. True to form, the Vikes did nothing with it because they don't have a QB capable of moving them down the field. In fact...they gained only about 15 yards and Ponder got picked on a deep ball with :32 left in the half. I guess it was a good as a punt...

  3. There were just too many times, especially on the PP, where there was a nice 1 2 3 opportunity and it ended up 1....... stretch for the horrible pass 2 and 3 is no longer an option. It's a small thing, but once they get that tiny bit of feel for the passing the offense could do some big things and the defense would be even better as a result of fewer turnovers leading to odd man rushes.

    Agree on the PP stuff.

  4. That game was really up and down last night. Without taking into account the major the second period was dominant for und. The problem is the passing still isn't crisp and things were very out of sync for much of the first period. With a returning parks and the emerging wrecking crew on the 4th with the addition of senkbeil this team could turn into what we were all hoping they could be going into the season.

Passing may not have been "crisp" per se, but the level of support around the puck was excellent. If a pass got missed or tipped into an open area more often than not another UND player was there to grab the puck.

  5. Anyone ever seen the Big Fat guy that sits behind the one goal & gambles with everyone - Money going back & forth constantly - What are they betting on ?

I don't know these particular guys, but I've seen people play a game where each participant in your group picks a different number from 0-9 and keeps it for the game. Every time the last number on the game clock matches their number they get paid a buck (or whatever) from all the others. Payout is double or more if the stoppage is for a goal.

  6. This isn't necessarily just women's hockey related but I did find out this weekend at the womens game something interesting. I am not sure if any of you knew that in the past if a player from UND scored a hat trick in a game you would get 33% off of a hat in the SiouxShop. Apparently the NCAA caught wind of this and put the kabosh on it because it was profiting off of a student athletes success.

That's actually pretty hilarious. I was at the Saturday UMD game when Monique got the hatty and they said they had ended the promotion...I never asked for an explanation. It's to the point where the NCAA doesn't make me mad anymore, they just make me chuckle.

  7. Which is better Dish or Direct? Or is it personal preference?

I have DirecTV and love it. In fact, I recently switched ISPs to Charter and refused to get their cable TV because they just don't offer the depth of sports programming DirecTV can. Also, when considering the switch I called DirecTV and they adjusted my monthly bill to be competitive with the Charter promo. Case closed. I think for sports programming - if you want as much available to you as possible - DirecTV is the way to go. Maybe others with Dish can chime in, but with the sports package in DirecTV you have access to a lot more regional sports networks.

I also like the user interface with DirecTV better than dish. We have had dish at the lake for a few years and it just doesn't flow as smoothly. I guess the new "hopper" dvr for Dish is probably different, but I haven't used it so I can't comment on it. I do like the interface on DirecTV's HD-DVRs.

Overall, in my opinion the customer service, interface, and depth of sports programming on DirecTV is superior to the competitors. It's not the cheapest, but I believe someone posted earlier that you get what you pay for. Consider me a satisfied DirecTV customer.

  8. For as much as we assume the second half surge is a given, why is the assumption always made that if we win more in the first half the team would automatically be better off come tourney time? Either you're playing your best hockey at the end of the year, or you're not. More often than not, Hak has his teams playing their best hockey at the end - when it counts. Saying they have failed to win a natty because of a few losses in November is a bit ridiculous. He's had regular season WCHA champs fail to win it all, so lets not assume it's all about being able to "manage your fatigue level" at the end.

  9. I know that they have a pretty good set up there in Bemidji... How does one get LPTV at home on your TV if you have DirecTV?

It's part of the locals for those of us in MN on channels 22 and/or 17. Not sure about GF or ND subscribers. Maybe try getting it the old fashioned way with an OTA antenna???
