If we are a legit top 8 team, we will win.

USD may have a one score lead at the half due to energy of home and urgency of season. I believe 2nd half we will adjust and win by at least 10. If we have a fast start and make USD reliant on the pass we should win by 3 scores with subs playing.

I believe several (six) of Indiana football defense (4-3 base) which has been very good is made up of James Madison defensive transfers. They ran a 3-4. Point being this defensive scheme seems to get better play from the athletes if ran correctly. Also if 4-2-5 is base you can adjust body types more depending on offensive packages that are being run. Also I remember Schmidt had safeties recruited as OLB while at UND as a DC, my guess so when we had to go Nickle some OLB personal could be still used. With 4-2-5 they (safeties) can work and play more in space and improve than being an OLB suddenly being put on space to cover.

With turf change hopefully they being two different style shoes to be ready in case new turf similar to ours.

Just like USD officially knocking us out of the playoffs at home last year, I want us to return the favor to them and knock them out this year!

Hoping ankle twist and not a fracture!

Gophers can’t handle the pink visiting lockerrooms in Iowa.

Knee down, should be a sack

Should have been a sack, or backwards pass.

10-2 with one loss to FBS would probably give us top 4, I would be surprised if we go undefeated in the Valley that we would not be the higher than either of the SU’s. One game at a time, players bought into that….as for us fans … we can discuss, and ponder hypotheticals of future success. This is way more fun than last year’s discussions and hypothesizing of our negative play.

Month out is vary fortunate for a collarbone injury.

Nielsen’s first title was first year after Bubba, they were with Bubba’s players I believe, Nielsen’s 3rd year he won, that one I would think with less. Bubba coached Duluth 2004-2007. Duluth’s titles were 2008 and 2010.

I’m sure it will come out tomorrow. Arm was in sling so that tells me shoulder dislocated or broken collar bone. How he landed my gut tells me broken collar bone. Because that is a season ending (3-6 mo. healing) shoulder injury. I heard nothing about training staff popping his shoulder place.

I would rather give up cheap scores and play some backups so staff can evaluate and just as important have kids not playing know how soon they from getting meaningful reps. Hopefully those kids will not necessarily jump into the portal and we lose team depth. Way more fun playing in winning games than watching from the sidelines.

Also players (coaches will be focused) need to not look past SIU Blue. It’s easy for players to look forward ton USD and SU.

Three would be much better!

When they went for two, and past aggressive plays. Should have seen it coming.

One thing I like to point out was during the last several years we tried to control clock and be more methodical on offense, especially against teams that were considered “better” than us so our defense does not get exploited. This squad with improved defense is allowed to be more aggressive on offense and if we go 3 or 4 series without a score it’s not catastrophic to team morale. It’s fun being a fan with the a team that has the hunter mentality.
-
Tackling has improved a lot also, it’s great to see it (defense) play well on the road. For the longest time road games were blowout losses or track meets that we tend to lose.
-
This game may come down to offense, defense will probably bend on not break (I am expecting limited big plays). Montana, our defense was on the field too much in the second half and they were able to put together some drives. If and when we get a multi score lead we need to limit their offensive big plays in the second half by us controlling the clock on offense.

This game, to me, will show if we are a legit top tier team. Top seeds win games like these. Need to have a start like last week, and a finish like UNI. This team cannot afford a bad quarter on the road against a playoff caliber team. Excited for the Saturday.

I am hoping we get ignited by the crowd like SU game from two years ago and roll to a win, by having YSU be more predictable with us playing with a big lead. If YSU plays in front early, it may be a Jerry leading us on a game winning drive in the end.

I believe this also, last two years he had been banged up at the end of the year.

I would have to agree, we have returns more kicks for scores, blocked more punts than teams have done to us. SDSU during Covid year we ran a fake punt that turned momentum and we win. I believe against Weber we blocked a punt that helped us win. Most notable was NDSU, KO return that got the crowd energized and as NDSU started to get back into it, we blocked a punt which led to a score. Kicking issues is an argument but Schmidt hires those he felt would improve the program. Schmidt wants to win, I don’t see him as a charity guy. As for Simon, players love him some players get the best out of his teammates. He could have cut and run after Fall camp or when an FBS qb came in last Spring he stayed because he wants to finish at UND. Last game he caught a pass and the double pass, I felt it was more of the call than Simon because UNI probably new that was an option when he is at wideout. Personally wait a few games before doing that, unless staff wanted to show it against an inferior team and hope to bait them run something different out it later on. We fans have no clue what coaches think or how players feel. As a fan, I’m appreciating the willingness for this team and staff wanting to get better and want to be more than an average to above average FCS team.
