Hopefully someone who can lead, make game changing plays, and make those around him play better!

Yes, his meet his junior year was a let down. I believe he quit football and hoops to focus on throwing. He practiced summer, fall and winter because he wanted to be great. I was surprised UND was able to keep him signed after his state meet. I’ve seen many state meets, and I never saw young man (Nabwe on girls side is relatable) do what he was able to do at that high level in all 3 events.

Saw him compete at State, very, very nice kid and a very talented in the throws. Very much a student of throwing technique.

Instead of whipping sh!ties on their field, we can lay some ferocious Schmidty Sh!ties and knock their guys hard to the ground.

Eric Schmidt named head coach of North Dakota football

What I see with Schmidt is that he expects his coaches to adhere to his beliefs. If you are not committed to with 12 months a year you will not be retained. I can see a few stay and possibly one moved to recruiting coordinator. -
Eric Schmidt named head coach of North Dakota football

Just looking at Schmitty’s demeanor, he not would not be just a coach to play for, but a coach to die for. Hopefully the staff he gets will land the recruits we need and develop them them into the players they can both win the Dakotas and win it all. -
I would imagine Schmidt dictated his wants and needs while being courted. If so there should be positive and impactful changes within the structure of North Dakota Football.

I do want to see Schmidt show some fire to the Dakota school coaches, like he did to the UC Davis QB in the D2 playoffs his senior year!
-
I think so. At Washington he was Special teams coach and worked with edge rushers.
-
Hopefully Schmidt (Mandan native) can be to us, like the other Mandan native Ron Erhardt, who coached high school and then college, was for NDSU!

I really don’t care the specifics of defensive fronts. I just want some better athletes on defense to bring pressure, be able to TACKLE IN SPACE, and break on the ball in coverage!
-
If it is Schmidt, I wonder if there is a team meeting tonight introducing him as coach.
-
Yes, those who can identify talent and make them better players after they are recruited!
-
I was hoping for someone new but, if it is Schmidt, I hope he seriously evaluates the assistants, and remove those that need be.

Ethan Thomas 58-8.5 very, very good throw winning at SDSU today. He has potential to be very special in the throws!

The last two years was a million times worse! 2019 I felt it was his best coaching just because of the injuries we had on the defensive front and we still made the playoffs. That year I believe we beat Sam Houston at home….. then they went on to win the Covid Title the following year.

Even a Mark Callahan was under under 275 in high school (he wrestled) It should not take long for him to gain muscle/weight. I do agree the 6-2 300 pounder we got should try some NG/DT. My time at UND it was not uncommon for big D-Line that are not overly twitchy get move or OL later in their careers. Once on offense line, they never crossed over to D-Line unless goal line defense.

If defensive staff stays than it will be a repeat and rense on defense. Schmidt coached edge rushers at Washington. Need an overhaul on defensive staff.
-
USD recruited athletes on defense and UND never gave up less than mid 20’s a game in their best year. Let alone shut down an offense (especially a NDSU or SDSU offense) on their own turf.

I am not saying I’m all in on Schmidt, he had a motor when he played. He is competitive, and intense. I do think his last year he did a decent job with the defense, we burned practally all the quarters Red Shirted D-Line because of all the injuries. Unfortunately the lack of depth caught up to us with the outdoor locker room playoff loss to Nichols State. One of the negatives I noticed last night. His bio at SDSU said he would put in a 4-2-5 at there. Watched some of the Air Force game last night. I saw a 3-4 defense get shredded. The only 4-2-5 was like his time at UND. Used in long yardage situations.

Jake left us right away and enjoyed coaching a talented team and QB. The AD may not want him because his he quit as soon as he was hired.

Lennon was solid D coordinator at UND, good D2 coach but could not sustain at Southern Illinois. Great OC/DC is not always the case, DeBoer you could say wasn’t lighting the world on fire at Southern Illinois as OC. He did not look over powering at Eastern Michigan, had a solid 2nd year OC at Fresno, did ok at Indiana before coming back to be head coach at Fresno. His HC at Sioux Falls showed how he could command a team. Just needed a break at a higher division which unfortunately UND did not give him that break.

Last DC before Schmidt was getting about 450,000.

Possibility, of him stepping down is end of year meetings with players and some $external$ dialogue. A coach should leave with the program in a better position then when they came. If he would have stayed, that may not be true.
