  1. Can certainly see how that one was called, but not after they didn’t call Caponi for his tear after someone who was nowhere close to the puck and hit high and leveled him blindside. It’s no wonder that every coach in the NCHC hates the officiating that occurs with Denver - especially when they appear to teach diving and holding their head after any contact.
  2. Got a beautiful feed right in front of the net but couldn’t connect to put it away. It was one of the first nice looks we have had though…
  3. Huge and one for Trey!!! Big play at a critical time for a freshman…
  4. Every possession they drive in to an automatic foul called. And they have been almost automatic at the line…. Don’t seem to have a charge in their list of calls tonight…
  5. Trent has had an awesome game, but fouling the shooter on the 3 with 4 seconds left will not be a highlight for him today…
  6. Trent has been great today. If we could develop him a shooting touch at all, he would be incredible…
  7. Omaha taking hard show at top of the key on picks taking away the 3 and leaving T wide open in the lane as a result. U fortunately, we haven’t made them pay by getting it to him yet so they continue to overplay the 3 - hence our 25 percent shooting from the arc…
  8. Exactly. Our goalies haven’t always been great either, but most of the goals have been point blank shots left wide open by terrible defense. Or utterly stupid turnovers right in front of the next that the goalie has no chance on.
  9. They said probably offsides but not conclusive enough to call.
  10. Agreed but watching her on the floor there is no reason she should not have more minutes. She is a spark every time she is on the floor. Don’t give her a reason to think about the portal. Coaching has unfortunately taken on a new element with high level entry player and we need to adapt with it…
  11. I’m just hoping that Beal will be here with the limited court time she is seeing. Hurst is working much harder on d and seeing the Court better every game. She will be a force. I think Beal has that potential based on sheer athleticism but she hasn’t seen very much playing time…. We could certainly use her length and speed at times…
  12. SDSU is just too big for us to match up well. Refs let the physicality go in the paint and didn’t make one 3 second call all game - and not for a lack of opportunities. That was definitely not in our favor. Kacie worked hard but ran into one 6’1 bunny after another and didn’t get an open look anywhere. Same story outside. Just too big to get a good look. Bright spot was Hurst. Physical enough to match SDSU and she hustled on defense. If she continues to get better defensively she is going to be a force. Still can’t figure out the limited minutes for Beal. She is too long and athletic not to have on the floor…
  13. When everyone you play shoots close to 60 percent, it may be time to evaluate your defense and make some adjustments.
  14. We are just more athletic with more basketball skills. Bison are big and physical but not very quick and athletic. As long as we don’t make the mistake of slowing down and playing to their strengths I think we take them if we meet again. At the end we slowed down and they climbed back in the game. When we pushed the tempo, they can’t stay with us. Good win to build on.
  15. Started playing not to lose instead of playing to win. Stick with what was working…
  16. Good for Maggie. Nice game against the rival. Need to keep pushing. They are just not very fast or athletic. Don’t go into stall with lead mode. Keep the pressure on and blow this thing away!!!
  17. Keep moving up the floor. Bison are big and physical but not very quick. Push it up and force them to foul on the drive. If we could get the officials to count to 3, it would help. Bison bigs have stake marks from camping in the lane…
  18. Our defensive rotation is atrocious. Grant Nelson scored at will and we were still leaving him WIDE open. T can’t stop Grant one one one and we let him score 25 before we thought it may be a good idea to give him some help. When the bison drove, we waved them through with no help whatsoever. Do we really think it is a coincidence that every team we play shoots 50 to 60%??? Not going to win any games with that kind of defense, unless we count on setting a 3 point scoring record every game. That was our only conference win - and may be our only conference win this year. We do have some promising freshman, but it will be a miracle if we keep them out of the portal to stay and win about 3 games against NAIA teams plus one or two conference wins a season…. Sather has got to make some adjustments or we may not win another game this year…. We can’t afford to have two or three guards on the floor at the same time that simply cannot hit an outside shot. Just won’t work. I thought we turned the corner on offense last week, but we went back to an anemic offense in the second half. And our defense is just painful to watch.
  19. A serious look should be made of Reis Rowekamp at Red River. Zach Kraft is an excellent 3 point shooter but not as long and no where near the athleticism as Reis. Kraft will need significant work on the defensive side of the ball, where Rowekamp is a very good defensive player as well. Reis has an incredibly fast first step, shoots well outside, and can take a hard drive with a high vertical pure midrange pull up jumper that is nearly impossible to stop. He has had several 30 point games this year. When he wants to, he can be a playmaker and get others good looks as well. Like most high school stars, looks to score first, but have seen glimpses of his playmaking ability as well and there is a real potential there. I would love to see him as a consideration. Having seen him play several times, as well as UND’s 12 man rotation, there is no question in my mind he is as good as or better than several of the players we have on the UND bench right now…
  20. Obviously shooting from the outside was incredible and probably not repeatable. We were shooting almost all 3’s at a clip of 70 percent in the first half for a while. The difference was better and faster ball movement than we have had all year and keeping more than one shooter on the floor. Not surprisingly having better looks increased our shooting percentage. It is obvious teams give brooks and Trent 10 feet of space and dare them to shoot. Putting Norman and trey on the floor at the same time has been long missing for this team. Hoping that continues going forward. I still can’t figure out the Sueker issue. We have had games where we struggle to get 50 points in a game total and Mitchell, who can score, gets 3 minutes of playing time. Besides back to the basket, Mitchell has abilities T and Matthew’s just don’t have… and a good basketball IQ…. Not saying Sueker is the answer to everything either but I can’t believe that anyone thinks T and Matthew’s give us a dominant inside scoring presence…. Gotta Credit T for his 3 shooting tonight though…
  21. Do we ever cover the weak side or is it just conceded that if a rebound or pass goes across the crease we just give them an open look goal. All year!!!
  22. I agree. Would love to see him or Brooks with both Norman and Eaglestaff on the floor at the same time so we have a legitimate outside threat for a change. Having 3 bricklayers on the 3 point line is clearly not an answer. There is no question that everyone will give Jalen all kinds of space as he is clearly not a shooting threat at all - unfortunately including the free throw line…. But he can slash and if he can find our shooters or someone open on the base line, that would be a nice change. The lineups haven’t made much sense, but I continue to believe there are some possibilities with this group if we learn to play together and get some damn ball movement for a change. Our half court offense (or lack thereof) is hard to watch.
  23. Until we get ball movement, our outside shooting will stay in the basement where it is. That makes it tough when we have no inside threat. 3 point shooters need setup - whether inside out, slash and dish, or quick pass on reversal. We don’t do any of those things well and it shows…. Norman and Eaglestaff could knock down some outside shots if set up by a playmaker but that doesn’t seem to be in our repertoire…
  24. Last year was tough to watch, but in fairness to Paul, you lose Rebraca, who was a shoe in to be a first team all conference selection, the freshman of the year from the year before in Ihenacho, and Seuker and Nero were hurt most of the year, not to mention Sims leaving. Rebraca had a reason to go and clearly had a great opportunity at Iowa. I still haven’t figured out what benefit Ihenacho got out of the portal. He would have been a stud for us if he would have stayed. You put that group with Bruns and last year was a different story. There were glimpses in the first half of what we could have this year if they continue to play D and move the ball. The vast majority of minutes tonight were by underclassman that have to learn how to play at the college level. Taking kids who have been high school stars where scoring was all about them and having them fit into a system where vision and not just individual play matters takes some time. The first half tonight showed a step in that direction. I am hoping that Paul will get them to make that step consistently. If he does, they may surprise some people this year.
