BTW, The Sioux are now #8 in KRACH, which is the most fair rating system. The PWR is kind of screwing the Sioux because they play an incredibly difficult schedule.
-
The team is solid, I just hope they can learn to score sometime soon. Regardless, I will be at the F5, WR, and F4 (I think). I expect to see the Sioux a few more times...

Why does SCSU consider the Sioux one of their most hated rivals.

You are very angry, aren't you? BTW, everyone here should know we are the hated rival because of the Sioux name. -
CSTV Hobey Baker Watch release--Drew Stafford

Personally, I'm upset that an eastern player made the top 10. The best players and team are in the west. -
Thanks, please provide these comments to all NHL GMs so that we get to keep players longer. Taylor Chorney is a very different player from Greene, but definately has NHL talent. The team is playing with 4 freshman defensemen and 1 sophamore who didn't play much his freshman year. Even with the very young team the defense hasn't been bad. Chorney is strong on his skates and is fast skater, but he is not a physical player like Greene. I wish he shot more, because it seems like he has a great shot (alot of power). Chorney is a very good passer, and may develop into a more offensive defenseman. The team has had issues with the transition game, but I think that speaks to the youth. Chorney has made some nice breakout passes. Most of the season he has been on the #1 PP unit. One other observation. For a defenseman Chorney really doesn't take too many penalties. That is a rarity in this team.

Too bad, I always want to beat a team at their best. Best wishes to Jensen.

So does this mean that Hirsch's medical redshirt was a "no go?"

Who would UND fans like to see to add Hockey first?
siouxnami replied to bigmrg74's topic in Men's Hockey
I said other. That being Iowa State, because it is more likely than any of the listed options, plus it expands hockey's sphere of influence to another state. -
As a hockey fan, great article. As a Sioux fan, what a load of crap.
-
Sounds like the prototypical Sioux D-man.
-
Was UND actively recruiting him? I really am not sure, though it would seem that there were many other players the same age that would have been higher priority targets. He should benefit from the size of SCCCs rink. Best of luck to him, except when he plays the Sioux.

Great post and great goal AZsioux. BTW, the Wild scored a beautiful goal on what I think was a set play last night. You can see every goal from every game on www.nhl.com/highlights (If you look for it, it is their forth goal). I would love to see the sioux try this some time (but it could go horribly wrong). Basically this requires a pp and 3 men on the blue line (umbrella). Put someone with a great shot on top of the umbrella. Get the puck to a point and pass the puck through the top of the umbrella to the other point, with the player at the top (in this case Gaborik) swinging at it like he's taking a huge slapper. The puck goes through to the other point where the player fakes the shot and passes back against the grain to a likely wide open player. Given how fast everything happened, there was a player open for an easy tip in from 6 feet out. The goalie and D were out of position from the 2 fake shots. This was a thing of beauty. Even the camera man got lost.

The thing that has always driven me crazy with Prpich is that I have never seen a player that had so much difficulty clearing the puck on the PK or when the team needs a change. Why is this so hard?

Hey short(fill in the blank)guy, I'll do my best not to get myself banned here... Sioux fans hate you, Gopher fans hate you, Hockey fans hate you. Congratulations, your joint popularity is right there with Wisconsin, low alcohol beer, and bad refs. You've truely brought us closer together... If you think that that sign isn't grossly inappropriate, I cordially invite you to bring it to the WCHA final five. I of course recommend that you bring it to both the games and the post-game tailgate parties which I am quite sure you will arrive at 2.9 periods early. Edit: I just finished reading all of the comments on this thread. Yes, please close this thread...

Hmmmmm. I know that there is a joke here somewhere, but I'm just too tired to pick the low hanging fruit.

I think that the ankle injury will hurt WI alot less than scoring 0 to 2 goals per game.
-
We've got them head to head, so we control that portion of our destiny.

Is it just me or did Frank Mazzocco (sp?) keep mixing up T.J. and Oshie. I think what came out was O.J. I replayed a few of these comments many times from the Saturday game (I seem to have lost Fridays... ). Did anyone else pick up on this?

I really had to be down on Kaip at all given what he has been through, but I really do like what I have seen of Miller, though they are completely different players. I think to play Miller, Porter (who is a good 2 way forward) would likely go to the checking line, giving it more offensive punch, while Miller would take Duncan's, and Duncan would move to one of the top 2 lines. Miller, looks fast and skilled and his coach at GB thought he was a better scorer than Blake Wheeler. He really showed some potential aginast SCCC this year. Also remember he is still recovering from a very serious injury and is probably much better that we have seen. I also fear that Kaip is developing a reputation, which unfortunately matters greatly in the WCHA. I am a vocal critic of some WCHA refs, and feel that Shepard and Adam should be fired. However, the think that the other WCHA refs are pretty good overall, though like players; sometimes good ones have bad games. Everytime I have seen Zelkin, he has done a decent job. Despite the fact that I didn't see the game I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt. Keep this in mind for those of you that didn't like Zelkin, would you rather see Adam more? Also the WCHA has some very bad linesmen, they can make the refs look bad. Finally I went to the wild game last night. Wow, are NHL officials ever better!!! I do wish that the WCHA would go 2 refs like the NHL. This leads to less stick violations, which hurt skilled teams, and also less bad calls seen outof the corner of the eye. I think that the Sioux tend to get alot of calls against them where an opposing player gets crushed, and the ref assumes something illegal must have happened (a few of Prpich's / Smaby's hits come to mind).

Having seen him plan in several games, I think he is best served where he is. He is a very gritty player, who is best and taking advantage of other teams less skilled players. He doesn't fit in ino a preset role very well, he is more skilled than a grinder, but more of a grinder than a playmaker. An absolutely great find for the Sioux. I like hime on the 3rd or 4th line where he can make a difference. BTW, at a game I saw in Mankato, 2 years ago, Fabian scored a hat trict in a 10-1 route. I'm not sure, but those may have been his first 3 goals as a menber of the Sioux. That also served as his "coming out" party. (Please don't read that wrong ) Unfortunately, a team doesn't have to be good 5x5 to beat the Sioux.

Mental illnesses are NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, healed in a couple of weeks. Thus I tend to believe this was not really due to a mental illness, or else Hirsch would not have come back in a couple of weeks. I've said this before, if his actions were due to a mental illness, Don Lucia should be fired and never coach again for the good of all hockey. After this, there could have been ABSOLUTELY NO lack of understanding by the Gopher's Staff. I however, believe Lucia knew he was not really risking anything, playing Hirsch, because the bizarre behavior was just that, bizarre behavior. Robbie Bina was a victim of a unnecessary violent assult. The two incidents are completely different. I don't like either set of signs however, more so just because if someone makes an a$$ of themself, it doesn't mean they need to read about it at the game. BTW, that last sentance applies to all the folks who attend the F5 with me and witness my behavior. No signs please...

Great teams will overcome the loss of any one player. I really think UW is a great team. If you look at his average shots faced. Insert someone with mearly a .9 save percentage, Wisconsin still wins almost every game. We'll see, but I think like Ryan Miller, Elliot benefits from the system he is in. I'm not saying this isn't a big loss, but I think Wisconsin CAN overcome this, especially if this is for a short time only.

I thought you had to need a booster seat on the team bus to play keeper for the Sioux.

Thanks, nice to have a Cornell fan on the site. Is there a Cornell hockey site? Wish you guys would have roasted Gopher on their home ice last year...
