  1. Wow, that's quite the twist! Interesting...which 2 are they?
  2. Thank you for the correction, that must have been before my time. Around what year are you referring to? And did you play for a GF school I am assuming?
  3. The very worst I recall Whap getting beat was to RR one season and it was something like 16-0 or even 18-0 and that was highly frowned upon around the State. I remember everyone talking about that game and how demeaning it was. Their typical blow outs were more like 9-1, 11-0 etc. So no, there have been no blow outs in this caliber in a LONG time, if ever. I doubt he was going for recognition. You don't earn respect by beating a very poor team 24-1 instead of 10-0.
  4. Bismarck High defeats Hazen/Beulah 24-1 last night. Yes, you read that correctly...24 goals in a varsity hockey game. That far surpasses crossing the line in running up the score IMO. Seeing this made me instantly lose a lot of respect for Mike Peluso, even if there is some sort of backstory to explain this disrespectful blowout. Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't a lot of the higher caliber west teams sent their JV teams to HB and Bott in recent years? Why did that change for this game? Was he shooting for the state record of goals scored in a game (probably obtained it)? Is there some back story of a cheap shot from last season or something? I noticed HB numbers are lower than ever and they don't have their top 3 returning scorers from last season. Is HB on the verge of losing their program and Mike is trying to nudge them off the ledge? Side notes: A BHS SR. has 12 goals and 13 pts in 3 games. Looks like he is on pace to beat Peluso's scoring record. How in the sam hell did HB score a goal? BHS goalies had a combined save total of TWO, and let the 3rd one slide past.
  5. Can someone PLEASE explain to me the thinking on the 3vs3 last night? Jost, Gersich and wolanin out for the first shift...sure, makes sense. THEN pogo, Gardner and poolman?? I instantly thought, slow, SLOW and slow...this can't be good for 3on3. Only thing I can think of is that they didn't care at that point and weren't thinking. 3on3 is open ice fast pace backyard hockey, not rough and tough tight hockey like those players excel at. I was blown away by that line up choice.
  6. I think this game will get a good amount of "overall UND fans" that don't typically come to UND football games. The type that are sick of hearing about NDSU, and are glad to hear UND is winning. I think there will also be a good amount of "grey area fans" at this game. There are a lot of these "grey area fans" in our state that like whatever UND team or NDSU team is successful at the time. They go to these games as a social event, and know it will be fun because winning is a high probability so everyone will be happy and having a good time. This is very common at UND hockey and NDSU football games....full of people there just to have a good time that really don't know much about the team. Like it or not, this would be good for UND football and I hope it catches on. Filling seats brings in money.

  8. Yeah I think he was at one point if I remember right. Good point. I hope he does. If not Saturday, some game soon then. Thinking long term- Cam will say bye bye after this season and he will be the man. I am sure he realizes that, and I hope that is enough to keep him around.
  9. Seems like a reasonable answer to the weird situation. But then it makes me think...would they keep him around if he straight up told the team he was leaving? And why not leave after last season vs right off the bat this season? Seems like that would make for a really LONG awkward situation for him and for everyone on the team. I'd rather not have him around at all if we knew he was leaving. Even if he was leaving at the end of this semester.
  10. I'm worried about these scores. Sdsu win is looking like a jump and chat lose is looking decent for them as well
  11. I disagree personally because things have changed a little since they were #4, but who knows what this crazy committee will decide. But my guess is that if they lost (unlikely) they would slide to #3 assuming the teams around them win. Thankfully for UND, with all of the different scenarios this Saturday, it seems very likely they will land at #8 or better. I just don't see the SDSU jump. I think it would take a 3 score win for them to jump UND which will be tough for them to do at UNI. I predict them to win a tight one and stay behind UND, but even if they did jump us, there might be enough top 8 teams bouncing out to make room for both UND and SDSU.
  12. That makes sense. Given their consistency with it, it does make sense it's by design so that helps a little I guess. Getting detailed----I still don't agree with that forechecking strategy though. I'd much rather have him keep leverage and force the d man to make a play while still staying with the play. One more guy to clog up lanes and to clog up the neutral zone. It's common but effective in my opinion.
  13. Granted it is early in the season, but I have been a little frustrated by the LITTLE things this year. UND Without the puck 1. Chasing their D-men behind the net when the play isn't there!!! Rather than gliding around the back of the net to keep momentum like a goon, we need to start stopping and starting to stay in the play and to keep yourself in front of the play. Horribly lazy habit and it takes you out of the play right off the bat for their ensuing attack. 2. Poor dump and chase habits; If possible, the dump needs to be hard...not sally-flicked to their D-man for a quick turnaround. 1st man needs to be going hard to stop or slow their break-out, playing the man and disrupting any way possible (not happening). The 2nd man needs to find the puck and gain control...if that task is not there, be 1st man. Far too often our forwards are getting to the dump too late, and/or both guys are getting caught too low when the fore-check is obviously lost. 3. Bad angles; Plays a huge role in the neutral zone battle. Force a turnover, force them to ice it, force them to make a poor dump in. Getting clowned there so far this season by NCHC teams. 4. D-men stepping up; Mostly about feel, but one thing to know is that if it's an even man rush, you're pretty safe to step up and close on him. That doesn't seem to be happening enough. The D-men are missing opportunities to take the man to stop the rush. On the other hand... a 3-2 rush, hold your spots and ride it out... jumping the gun and causing a 3-1 or even a 2-1 is not worth the highlight hit...which seems to be happening a lot more than it should. 5. PK...We need our fast, strong, tenacious and hard nosed players out there, not our goal scorers. We are killing a Penalty Barry, not scoring goals. Give the big dogs a rest on PK. UND With the puck 1. Taking shots that aren't there. Sure, I understand getting the puck to the net to create scoring opputunities BUT shooting the puck no matter what is NOT a good choice. I don't recall a team at any level that gets shots blocked more than this team so far. It has been often credited to the other team, but I see us taking poor shots when the lane isn't there. That is unless we are going for the strategy of trying to hurt the other players by hitting them with pucks, because that seems to be working a little bit. 2. Weak side; Forwards have missed out on countless cake slap rebounds by getting sucked in too far to the crease. Stay back, have patience and wait for the rebound to come to you. It is easy to take a step or 2 forward to slap it in, but having it blast off the goalie and into your feet makes for a much tougher rebound goal. Sometimes I have seen that rebound pop out with the forward no where to be found. Frustrating, but sometimes a sign of over anxious young players. No need to stand on top of the goalie on the weak side. 3. Boeser needs to be a play maker not a goal scorer this season. We need him to shoot low to create rebounds. We need him to dish it off when he's being hawked. We need him to create goals 3-4 times a weekend, not get one top cheese goal a series. Way way way too many blocked shots on him. H is also turning it over in the slot when there are 3 guys on him and also way too many high shots into the glass when he is trying to snipe when he has a line-mate running to the far post. He needs to step it up, he is failing his leadership role by far the most this season IMO.
  14. I foresee some line shuffling happening this week. I like Gardner on the first line and Jost with a pair of quicker small wingmen like janatuinen and...someone. Need to get Jost leading a line and it's never going to happen with Boeser on his. Seems to be holding him back from his play making abilities when every attack ends with Boeser shooting non-lethal forced shots. Being in a leadership roll doesn't mean he has to take every shot whether it's open to take or not. Frustrated with Boesers play as of late. The goals will come but things are NOT clicking up front and it's been tested and proven long enough now in my opinion.
  15. I have quite a few non-GF resident friends and family coming to town today (some even from Fargo) that don't typically come to games. Mainly due to the fact that they are sick of NDSU and are jumping on the UND football band wagon this season. Not that band-wagon fans are great, but it is a new trend as of recent for UND football that is good to see. More buzz around the program! I am guessing for a surprise crowd of 9,500-10,000 due to hockey fans being in town and band-wagon walk up ticket buyers.
  16. Agreed. I have been pulling for Wilkie but he just doesn't have that fire I was expecting to see in him when he's fully healthy. He seems to struggle to create space to show off his monster shot. He's been struggling to get control of the puck in the O-zone all together actually. He's a natural goal scorer, but at this level he just cannot obtain the positioning he needs to score those goals he has been scoring his whole life. Not a great transition for him, but he will stick around and contribute someday down the road. For now, get the strong, young, and tenacious corner greasers in the game to grind down opposing D-men.
  17. I hate to say it, but I think we need to shuffle up the first 2-3 lines a little bit. Especially if we struggle to create quality scoring chances once again tonight. Shuffling lines always seems to spark some new chemistry between players that you wouldn't expect. Sometimes the top 3 forwards on the team don't combine to make the best line. Maybe Jost would be more productive by LEADING another pair of wingers.
  18. In his defense (no pun intended), Thompson just recently turned 21. As a Jr. last season he was actually younger than freshman D-men Wolanin and Chartrand. He is probably still younger than some of the Freshman this season as well. Just for comparison--- Thompson was over 3 years younger than his classmate Paul Ladue. Thompson undoubtedly would have had a better showing at UND if he would have built up 2-3 more years of experience before hitting the REA ice. Unlikely that he would have been at Paul's level, but it still would have made quite a difference. Once I realized his age, it changed my opinion on him a little bit.
  19. UND 31 Weber 27 UNI over NDSU 35-24 EWU over Mont 45-21 UND up 1 spot in STATS poll, NDSU drops 2 and UNI jumps to top 15

  22. 3/4 are EGF and 1 from GF...so you actually broke his post. lol
  23. "The teams that generally have the best chance of stopping the dynasty are right within the Bison's Missouri Valley Football Conference. Since 2011, four of their five losses have come from four different teams within their conference." - FCS Top 25 Preview by Craig Haley (STATS Sr. Editor) He is just dying to compliment the MVFC. I mean, wouldn't you automatically assume most of their losses would come from teams that comprise 80% of their schedule??? It doesn't seem very shocking that most of their losses are coming from teams...that they play. Stupid
  24. What time does the STATS poll typically get updated?
