    For a laugh

I am pretty sure that it is in reference to things like South Dakota is on the Canadian border. (which would put North Dakota in Canada and a Province not a state) I am pretty sure he thought the lack of knowledge about the area to be pretty funny. I find it mildly humorous, what I find more funny is that quite a few people outside the midwest don't realize that North Dakota and South Dakota are actually 2 different states.
  2. Is Samson still the coach at Minot High? because if he is you can count on Minot playing for the consolation championship pretty much every year. As long as he is the coach, I don't think Minot will really be a serious contender for any state titles.
  3. I think your wrong about Mary, I don't think they will water down d2 any more than it already is. They already have a football team that could compete with many d2 school and will only get better if they add more scholarships and start recruiting as a d2 school instead of NAIA. It will likely be a few years, but I feel that they have the capability to being a mid to higher level d2 team. They are also very successful in many other sports and make UND track and field look like a joke. I agree with you if you are considering Minot State, Jamestown, Dakotas State and teams like that moving up. Mary is in a completely different situation then those schools.
  4. When I was growing up they did not recruit many if any local kids. The football team was primarily 25-30 year old canadians, which many of them were on steroids. After that they switched and recruited a bunch of JUCO guys from California. I think the program has started to change some, but it is hard to kick the stigma that Hendrickson had created over 10 years or so. I know that myself and many other local players had very little to zero contact with Minot State when the recruiting process was going on. They used to not even try to get any local kids, and how many people in a ND community are really interested in watching a Cali Juco team play? Not to many! The feeling I still get when I can go back and visit is that their is more interest in watching Minot High or Minot Ryan to the general sports fan. I think basketball does OK as far as getting people out to watch, but most other sports just don't have that big of a fan base. The Minot State Club hockey team was just getting started about the time I left Minot to go to college. The team was pretty good right away and has only gotten better. My understanding is that the Beaver hockey team does OK with attendance, at least it a lot better than all the SJHL teams they bring in every couple of years. The hockey program does get more local kids playing and I think that also creates more community interest in the team and how they are doing. Hockey could be the ticket for Minot State to move up, but I doubt the state would be willing to fund a move up to D2.
  5. Mary has better athletic programs and more money going in then Minot State has. Also growing up in Minot, the community doesn't support the Beaver athletic programs as much as needed. (their are several valid reasons for the lack of support) IMO Minot State would have to change a lot of things to get any real consideration.

    Dressler

This is great, we have already made him into a UND football legend!!!
  7. I don't think that Montana is always more talented, but they seem to typically have more talent than the ND team. Any all-star game is tough because you have little time to prep and if the coaches have not had some experience with these type of games the team usually suffers a little. If you look at the roster for the Badlands Bowl, you will likely notice a few of the very good ND players that choose not to play and the players you notice are missing are just going to be the good players you know about from your area. Sean Hoffman from Fargo North as well as a few other from different classes did not play in the game for one reason or another the year I played in the game. (I am sure Montana has this same problem) I happened to play on one of the few ND teams to beat Monatana and it was a close game. Montana probably had a few individuals that were at a higher level than any players on the ND team but were not as good from top to bottom. I personally thought their skill players were pretty good but the linemen they had that year were terrible.
  8. I am actually in agreement with most of what you said, but I also think that hockey needs to grow and develop more in the southern US in order for it to really be considered a major sport. Families need to be very financially stable to play hockey up north, and you have to be borderline wealthy to play hockey in the south. This makes it difficult to make the sport as mainstream as say basketball, because all you need is a ball and a park with a hoop to play.
  9. What your saying makes sense, but if thats the case they shouldn't have the policy or law in the first place. It makes the institution look bad, and in my case the state of Texas look bad! Don't make the policy if you are not willing to stick to it! It seems they trying to make a big statement, but will not back it up.
  10. Here is a picture of that Rall Jackass, he says our military is over killing more civilians than terrorists. He is one civilian that I wouldn't mind finding out got caught in some Ranger crossfire.
  11. Whats the point of a policy if you can do what ever you want anyway? I deal with the same thing is the state where I teach. Classes are supposed to be capped at 30 students, but if your district files a waiver with the state your class sizes can be whatever the district wants. So I teach classes of 40, whats the point. Same thing goes for the school calendars, the school year is mandated by law to run between Aug 30th and May 30th. The districts file a waiver and I start my year and the end of July and it goes through the end of May. Whats the point in having the law if nobody is held to it.
  12. I am pretty sure he was an invited walk-on which is a little different then being a true walk on. He was recruited but they gave scholarship money to another fullback coming in or they just didn't have any money allocated for the fullback position that year. In any case, I am sure he didn't have to try out for the team.
  13. Caleb Johnson, because the way he plays the game.
  14. I have loved them ever since the first time I saw Steve Largent Play, I was about 5 years old at the time.
  15. Good luck, I hope he makes it. It also happens to be my favorite NFL team so thats just a bonus.
  16. If you know anything about track you would understand that the times will go down as the end of the season approaches and the athletes start to taper off with there training. That is why most of the best times come at the end of the season, including Minnesota's state runner up from last year. I would bet Minnesota times will continue to improve, but so will Dresslers as the season continues.
  17. It is pretty rare that the offense is ever going to look good during a spring game. Offense takes a lot more timing and work to really come together.
  18. As a player I liked almost anything from AC/DC
  19. Denver is screwed, getting outplayed and giving up crap goals.
  20. So many to choose from, but I have to go with Blaise Larson. I am judging both on and off the field.
  21. Delroy If you've got it, Bring It. Coach us up on the screen game!
  22. Don't be playing with the Achilles, I rupture mine last year and that sucked. Surgery and on crutches for about 3 months. It is long recovery time with that injury.
  23. That is very impressive to break the power clean record! Not to take anything away but I thought Jimmy put up 385 in the clean, but maybe not.
