One would think. We are assuming he would be coming in as a DB and not as a QB correct?

Would love for him to be at qb. Fits the mold we are looking for.  Very impressive athlete!  Regardless, hope und can land him

You are correct.  The team's success will be dictated by the progression or lackthereof up front on offense, more than it normally would.  I feel so much better about the rest of the team overall than I have in a while, but offensive line play will make or break the success of the team next season.  There is a TON of work to do there right now.  I hope everyone is ready to step up.  Here's my list of importance regarding improving and developing over spring and fall ball:

    1. OL
    2. CB (time for Deion and Tyus to make the jump)
    3. ILB
    4. Safety (opposite of Cole, will Arnell be ready?)
    5. QB (in the event of an injury, is Heidlebaugh ready to step up?)

USD will be a handful next fall.

Our qb situation really scares me right now.  Really like Studsrud  but he's prone to injury as he is a running qb and has an almost completely new line in front of him

Bartles is Bartles. If the unfortunate is to happen and he's needed, maybe being a senior will light a fire under him.  Idk?

heidlebaugh is the big question mark.  I know he's an athlete but is he d1 ready?  Like his combination of size and athletism,  hope it translates to being a great qb at und .

No scholarship qb in this years class.   Not happy at all with that.

  3. USD has a good team returning next year and their experience of playing in the mvfc every week could pose considerable challenges for UND.

The big question mark for UND that early in the season will be how the o line has 'hopefully'progressed.  USD knows how to contend with quality big aggressive fronts, so UND will need their bigs to be extra sharp in the assignment area as well as the push factor.  Grady will be missed ...ugh! Still sick about that. Anyways.

Secondly, hope the off season hard work will have the talented but still very young secondary ready.  They will be tested unlike any other game when they take on Bowling Green, so we will know fairly early in the season what kind of secondary we will have.  So often last year our guys were on the opposing player but failed to get an arm up or turn around causing a flag to be thrown or simply just dropped to what should of been a INT.   Coach em up!

UND is no longer a doormat.  Bubba will have his guys ready.  They need to take protect home field if they want to take the next step.  Can't lose at home!!

We get upset over losing recruits and games. Me included, but there are much bigger things in life to be concerned with.  Like life itself.

This is terrible news, way to young.  Proof that you never know when you go under for what looked to be a "simple" procedure.  RIP.

On the recruiting front,Und is simply not at the place to where they can lose any player, most notably a difference maker.   I've always thought losing a player before he arrives hurts less then losing a player that is here and has played.  We could assume players like chinn would of a been a hell of a player, but quite frankly, he hasn't played a down.  50/50 guess.   On the other hand,  losing a player that has played and is a vital ingredient hurts!  Grady was plugged in week 7 and he was a difference maker.  We witnessed his greatness.  Huge huge loss.  Rarely happens that a true freshman starts on the O line.  His accolades were well documented on the field.

As much as I want all the recruited athletes to come here , if they are really questioning on coming here,  or are already here and are debating about leaving, the best is probably for them to go.  No need for locker room cancer.  Und and bubba need players that are willing to give 100% dedication.

  5. Agreed.  Losing chinn is another hit to und. Very talented young man.  Cannot afford anymore loses.   As you mentioned, und is very young and brings back some talent but they need to take the next step and that is to add depth!  Quality depth is an absolute must to compete and make noise in the post season.  Very proud of und football as bubba has installed the style of football we know.

I have no insight but I'm guessing all OL are brought in with the expectations of being red shirted. Fall evaluations and injuries may change that. There's a huge difference physically as well as assignment wise between high school and college at this position.

Other then the qb,  O lineman are the most likely to redshirt.  Like you mentioned, the physicality aspect is like non other position. Only the likes of Grady and turner from ag school can come in and start as a true fresh. Well not only did they start but they made a difference is a very positive way.  That happens once in a lifetime.

If I was to guess, they all will redshirt.  Und will be very thin and inexperienced on the line next year but have some good looking guys.

Appears #UND has received a commitment from OT Sean Russo of ThunderRidge High School in Colorado. 6'-6"-270

Great news.  Keep the bigs coming!

Every school loses good players every year - and to say that no one is not replacible is insecure and disrespectful to those who are staying and working their tail off. I'm willing to assume there is more to the story and his decision, but wow tough decision to walk away from a great education, personal growth and escaping the rez spiral, plus being a visible role model. I'll assume he considered this in his decision and did what he felt he had to do. Best wishes to the young man and next man up.

By me saying he was irreplaceable has nothing to do with being insecure or disrespecting  the returning players. You will never see me disrespect bubba or und football...never!!  Games are won in the trenches, period!   Grady has Sunday playing material, 2nd round potential.  Were not Alabama, these guys don't often end up here.

I have posted on here that I thought next year that one of our strengths would be the offensive line.  The cupboard is far from being empty.  Absolutely love demon and stockwell as I have noted quite a few times. Those 2 have potential to be on some all American lists in a couple years.  I believe miller, Aplin, Cox and Bell could be very good as well.  Rooney has potential.  That's not disrespecting those guys, I'm praising the hell out of Grady!   I'm not sure how many offensive lineman playing on Sunday has his kind of nimble feet and athleticism.  The guy is freakish in an unbelievable way.

I still believe we will have a good to very good line. Inexperienced but good.  It will take four to five games for the line to gel next year.  Losing merz , Grady and camy hurt the depth chart as well. Und can't afford to lose anyone as were trying to establish out mojo...push it down your throat.

It sucks but wish the best to Elijah.

So with that we lose 4 of our 5 starting o-lineman correct? Only Stockwell back?

1 returning starter.  Will have stockwell, Aplin, miller, taylor, cox, bell, Francis, stiner, Rooney, and Blair back..... Hopefully.  A lot can happen by august.

Loose a lot with boas , Meehan, anderson and now Grady.   A lot games played between those men.  It will take time for the new guys to gel and get the right assinents down but there is talent, just don't see the depth being there.  Hope for no injuries.  I could see the starters as demon, stockwell, Aplin, cox and miller.  Good group, but inexperience would be an understatement.

  10. What stands out for me was how nimble he was on his feet for for a very large man.   Returned kickoffs in high school as well had 4 interceptions including one while diving out of bounds.  The guy has unbelievable athleticism, for anyone , but for someone his size it is  just crazy.

Also, he was the one santiago was running behind at the end of the year.  He moved people and could move himself for pulling purposes.

You missed my point. And I fully understand how big of a loss this is.

I was pointing out that it's not just a UND thing.

I might be over reacting at the moment. Sorry.  Und cannot afford to lose guys like this to compete.

From what I've heard, I don't think that was it.

In case anyone hasn't heard yet, USD star DE Van Ginkle is transferring to Iowa Western in an attempt to get an FBS offer ala Big Snacks.

I'm not concerened about usd.  Und is my priority.  Unds o line will now be a huge liability next year with 1 returning starter and no depth.

    Just pissed!!

Well, use whatever adjective you like better. I was just asking the question. We cannot afford to lose depth right now. The next step forward in this program depends on getting and keeping talent.

Und will never get a recruit again like elijah.  A true fresh at 6'5" 300 and as athletic and powerful as he was.  Would of had 4 more years of growth.  Easily could of been a 2nd round draft pick. This one hurts, hurts bad!  I don't get it

  14. Frustrating! North Dakota kid that might have been Unds most important player for next!  Und is jinxed.  I am just pissed the team to the south keeps doing what they're doing and und losses these important pieces to make a run.  Just frustrating

  15.  Ndsu is head and shoulders above everyone right now in fcs congrats to them I guess.

Losing Georgia  southern and Appalachian St. and with the perrianal powers not being perrianal powers have a lot to do with why they look so good.  Montana, E Washington and Delaware and a few others are not playing top level football.

When looking at the top four conferences in the fcs, only the mvfc has stepped up.  It could be easy to say that if you removed ndsu from that conference they would also be on par with the other conferences.  The CAA, Big Sky, and southern are not what they were. This is why I see ndsu going for 10 in a row.  The competition in the fcs is just not there.

But don't kid yourself, they would not be able to compete in a P5 conference week in and week out, no way!!  Maybe the sun belt and the likes of those but no way a P5.

  16. Great recruiting week.  Adding quality depth is a must for any program and und hasn't had that luxury quite yet.  Bubbas aggressive d will only get better with the depth issue not being an issue.  He will be able to keep the" pedal to the metal " mentally regardless of injuries .  Now all we need is a scholly qb

According to his twitter, sounds like Demon Taylor is chomping at the bit to get back on campus and get to work.

This is 100% contrary and opposite to other speculation regarding DT specifically in this thread of course.

Sounds like his attitude certainly isnt a problem.

Great news!!! He will definitely be a starter and a damn good one.  Man I am relieved!!  Thanks for the update
