Unfortunate situation and they will need to be punished, likely by sitting out a game or two. With that said, they're both young and deserve a chance to correct their behaviors while still playing UND football. Bubba will take care of this and I have faith this will smooth over.
I feel the same. I would only imagine bubba is very angry and saddened. You would be hard pressed to find a better morally set person then bubba. He wants you to do the right thing in life but also realizes people can and will mistakes and he will forgive. It will now come will circumstances. He is a great coach on and off the field. He gives his everything for these kids and he expects that in return. He does not want und to be dirtied more so with any association related to him. He will do the right thing

Longtime Fan, that was fun! Good stuff. I couldn't agree more on Jahmere Sills. He had a different motor today from the get go. At times, he was showing SEC level calibre stuff.
It's hard to get a read on DL and OL players, as they are usually stuck in non-flashy drills.
Dulin looked the part early but yes he did have three drops. He needs to make those catches.
I do like what I have been seeing from former walk on receiver Stanley and Alex Reed. The WR corps could be a developing strength this year to complement the Offensive backfield, with Clive, Iwarri, Stanley, Seibel, Reed, Dulin, Carr and Walker. Might be able to let Toivonnen RS and aclimate to the college game. On top of all that, you got Santiago out of the back field and a solid Fullback and TE contingent.
Completely agree about the wr group. If what I saw today with the exception of dulin the receiving game will be vastly improved. Keaton has the feel of game in his pocket now. Granted it's only spring practice, but he looked the part and did it very confidently. Clive looks like the biggest improvement so far. Crisp routes and glue fingers make his speed game look even better.
It was nice to arnell out running around. He wasn't practicing just simply helping out with what he could. He was back pedaling at a decent clip when I noticed him and he did it like he hadn't ever sustained an injury. He's smooth.
Taj was on a bike and walking around as well, just a little more of a gimp to him. No crutches but definitely favoring his injured leg. Man I hope he in 100% by September!!
Also it was nice to see the hpc. Great recruiting tool.

1 hour ago, Teeder11 said:1. Day 2 of Spring practice started early for me as I checked out the kickers. The good news, I think, is that it appears Taubenheim's leg has strengthened a lot from last year's injury-recovery season that saw him struggle to kick the ball deep. From the 35 yard line, Taubs was consistently booting the ball 70-75 yards well inside the five and most times into the end zone. Because of last year's issues, Meindel tended to be the better deep ball kicking option but, as we know, he's gone. MacGregor's kicks were not quite as long as Taubs this morning. He mostly put his ball inside the 5-yard line. Holmen long snapped and newcomer punter Jacob Meeks #97 held the ball on FG work. Meeks did not punt at all again this morning.
2. Torrey Hunt, Josh Seibel, Santiago, Clive, Iwarri and Vashon Tucker all took time on Kick return duties today. An audible "ooooh" from the well-attended peanut gallery on the HPC catwalk could be heard this morning on one of Santiago's returns during 3 on 1 special team drills. Santiago juked through the three converging KR coverage players and burst through and up the sideline. The only thing missing was Pat Sweeney announcing "So long, Santiago!" His burst and speed were incredible.
3. WR Dulin appears to have developed some really good speed compared to last year, or at least I didn't notice it as much last year. The question is does he have the hands to match?
4. During skelly drills, Deon Harris got a pick on a tipped ill-advised pass. Harris made a nice athletic play to get to the deflected ball and snag it before it hit the turf.
5. From the safety spot, Flowers got a pick of his own off Heidelbaugh and took it for six. Flowers made a nice break on the ball and took it.
6. Runner up for catch of the day goes to Stetson Carr #87. Carr made a beautiful one handed snag while tight roping the sideline. Looked like he got a toe in with possession but I am sure the BSC officiating would have somehow disagreed with my assessment in a game situation.
7. Catch of the day goes to Santiago out of the backfield. The speedster tailback shot up and around the left end and burst 20 yards before summoning his inner Kenny Golloday and showing surprising vertical to snatch a sailing pass out of the air. Santiago had no business making that catch. It was truly a great grab but the QBs should think twice before putting the valuable Santiago in that kind of vulnerable position to get laid out.
8. As far as I can tell, Daquan Baker is lining up with the DLs and Jawon Johnson is with the LBs.
9. Mollberg did pretty well today at the TE position, though, Francis and Matthewson look to be fighting for the two deep at that spot this spring.
10. During 11-on-11 drills, Studsrud took most of his snaps under Aplin with Stockwell and Cox anchoring the ends and Bell and Taylor at the guard spots.
I was of those peanut gallery attendees. My o my santiago is just simply amazing. He makes everything look so simple and smooth.
Wasn't there long but my first impression is that hunt will be special. He has the speed and cutting ability that will translate real well. He simply has the "it" factor. In my opinion he will not be red shirted.
My not so fresh feeling came from dulin. Big disappointment today. I specifically watched him on many plays as I was super impressed with last year. 3 dropped balls that should have easily been caught. After the last one, freund looked very intense to coach him up. He also just seemed to play with a eh attitude. I hope it was just a one day thing, because he oozes with talent.
Iwarri looks good as a wr. He didn't stand out in any which way today but looks more comfortable at wr then rb. Side note: his calf muscles look a pair of baseballs wrapped in leather.
Coles Reyes is a stud. He doesn't even need to be on the field and he seems to garner attention.
I wanted to watch mason bennet to see what he has and all I could ever do was find him and switch my attention elsewhere. Regardless, based on what I saw last year and his hudl film he will a great player for und.
Norberg is the new ratelle. His arms are my legs.
Heidlebaugh doesn't look comfortable at all. Very twitchy and unsure.
Keaton looked fantastic. Great reads and throws alike. He has grown up immensely and is ready to make the next step. Hope he can stay healthy. Very impressed.
The o line was having issues with the d line. I think that will be the case with many of the offenses the we go against. Unds d line will no doubt be their strength. Very deep, talented and aggressive. Tank is a monster, hence the name. The o line needs time to gel and get that cohesive element down. (Fingers crossed on Grady).
Flowers looked good today an played with spirit. Very nice to see.
My gold star of the day went to jahmere. The guy flat out broke up 2 if not 3 passes and was everywhere. It wasn't like they weren't good passes because they were, but it was all him and his attacking the ball to break them up. I hope that translates to real season football. The way he played, I see why he played in the sec.
Clive also looks much improved. He now has the offense down comfortably, along with his speed he could be something to watch this year

I for one will never speak highly of your team. Your team is a complete zero to me. Bring your garbage to the South Dakota st forum, your rivals. What is it that you want? Pats on the back?? Congratulatory return notes?? Your snide remarks are old and worn. It's very unfortunate you azzhats couldn't stay on your own forum and circle j$&k there. OK... here we go!
Let me just start off with a hearty "Hallelujah!" for the HPC! The hair on the back of my neck still stands up when I walk into that beast of a building.
1. Bubba preached more urgency and crispness during drills. Tried to get the boys attention that this stuff if for real now and they can't just hear what the coaches are saying, they need to really listen and execute.
2. After practice huddle: Bubble told the team to go to the Betty this afternoon at 2 p.m. to support WBB against MSU. He said Mia Loyd is tough and her play is worth the price of admission alone. Coach Freund, quickly piped in "But don't skip class!!!" What Bubba didn't say was that there will be an NBA Hall of Famer in the building this afternoon, as former Jazz great John Stockton is an assistant with MSU.
3. This just in: Cole Reyes is one tough mutha F@##$%. He is out there practicing with the team in the same gear as the rest of the team with a big old cast on his left forearm. He doesn't sit out any drills and goes as hard as you'd expect. He is truly UND football tough int the traditional sense.
4. Clive was running wild today. Nobody could cover him(and that's not a knock on the secondary)and he was sucking in every ball like a vacuum. He hauled in one that would have been good for a TD from 60+ out, and he pulled in another tough grab that would have went for long yardage. He looked like he was having fun out there.
5. Heidelbaugh started out fine in drills but was a bit unsettled with his footwork once things went uptempo in skelly work, causing several balls to sail on him. Studs and Bartels looked fine.
6. If you can believe this --- Santiago looks to have even sharper cuts through the line and more burst once hes' in the open than last year. Stay tuned. If the line can gel, who knows how far he'll go.
7. I liked what I saw from Stetson Carr at WR... he's a bigger version of Seibel and was featured a lot today with intermediate over the middle pass plays. He hauled in all but one that was broken up by a good play by an ILB. If I remember correctly, he had a really good spring two years ago but eventually left the the team. Glad he's back!
8. A newbie that showed flashes today was DB Torrey Hunt, wearing #16. The kid had a really nice break on one pass play where he picked it off just before it hit the receivers hands and he took it for what would have been a sure 6 points. He looks very fast albeit a bit thin at this point. I was impressed with his showing given is lack of familiarity with the defensive schemes.
That's it for today. I will try to get out there again tomorrow morning.
Enjoy!
Love the update, great job Teeder! The excitement running through me makes it feel like it should be football season. 90% sure I'm making a trip out there today.

But we've still got a long ways to go to get attendance to an acceptable level. Until we sell out most games and move a lot more season tickets the place simply will never have the right atmosphere. We can talk about changing music and doing certain things after touchdowns, but in reality, the best atmosphere is a packed house at every game.
We need to rescue the bandwagoners from down south. Anything and everything will help. Plus all the things mentioned would make for a fun day at the alerus...... Like an event...... aka the Ralph. I wonder how many individuals are actually at the hockey game to watch the game. I personally know a handful of people that dislike hockey but go because it's the "thing to do". One couple has mentioned they haven't watched more then a couple periods over 7 years of attending. I think und and the alerus people can find room to assist with football team to make it an event. After all, football is the biggest sport in the business. And und now has the coach to make noise. Und and alerus now need to take the lead and be proactive. Make it happen

Spot on!! How would you suggest to get more people? Winning isn't always the answer, especially in gf. The majority of people in gf have no clue und has a football team. They need to market it and make it an event.

Since atmosphere helps with recruiting, could we move on from 60's and 80's music to something the recruits actually enjoy?
While I agree to a certain extent, I believe a potential recruit is not swayed by the game day music that is played, maybe more influenced by how the crowd or locals support their team, on top of many many other factors. When the game is at a stall, spectators need to step it up and make some noise. Whatever it takes is beyond me as I usually have lost my voice by the athem. Catwalk is a great place to voice your opinion at the enemy btw. For the students and younger crowd they could install new music but for anyone over 30 which is the majority of the spectators, they need a combination of old and older music.
Perhaps one of the most influential moments for a player is the intro. It sets the stage. This is their time. When they are standing in the tunnel, adrenaline flowing through their veins and nerves that are sky high, they want to rush the field to the thousands that are there to cheer them on. The fans should erupt inducing a hair raising experience. Everybody feeding off of each other. Win win situation. This is where they need to get the players inputs on what they would like. Similar as to when a boxer is entering the ring, he plays the music he wants.

Agreed on all the recommendations. How about now that they have a mascot, have a hawk 'work' the crowd. It would keep the kids interest, smiles on peoples faces and at times when the crowd should be noticed, he would be the instigator. He could give Mark Kalk a run for his money Hell, even though it's so "80s ", bring back the wave. How about cowbells ( need more cowbells). Towel waving? Yes very old timer of me, but it might spark an idea for something else. The alerus folk need help. We should send them a intro video for Virginia tech!!! You want goose bumps??? That will do it. You will see 80 yr old women acting like 30 yr olds, literally everyone is involved. Having experienced it live, I can tell you that you hear the noise with your bones not your ears. The absolute best thing was the chant back an forth with the opposite bleachers......crazy!! "LETS GO........HOKIES..........LETS GO........HOKIES......LETS GO........ HOKIES!!!!! Juiced for the rest of the game.

Lights off for intro. Hands down.
They have no excuse considering they had the lights off every season before last.
Absolutely. Many times last year while even standing on the catwalk I missed the intro, only to turn around as the players were near the sidelines. Frustrating!
I would love for the student side to be general admission. I have designated seats but will not sit there as I have gotten into to much trouble standing and cheering. Catwalk it is. How great would it be to get that collective group or groups of friends that love to cheer and not be worried by the next chair person being irritate. Old memorial east section was genrral admission and was a blast

it's painful to bring back bad memories, but let this serve as a reminder to what UND needs to work on this off-season and spring ball.
This right here is some of the worst 1-on-1 pass defense I've seen...
This needs to improve ... and i would like to think it will because all of these players will have the opportunity to learn from this and come back next year better and prepared
also, UND QB play was atrocious in this game...emphasizes the importance of QB depth and QB play
Studsrud's last three games of 2015 were very good, so spring ball should really have the spotlight on:
1) defensive secondary coverage technique and execution
2) QB play and QB depth - Studsrud, Bartels, and Heidlebaugh need to work on decision-making and chemistry with receivers .... HPC should help with this
3) offensive line play... obviously 4 of 5 2015 starters are gone which will make the offensive line a key position group in spring ball
Yes. Yes. And yes.
Oh dear lord I will never get over the loss of Grady!!! With his combination of size and speed he moved anyone anywhere anything...damn! What he did as a true freshman is simply amazing!! The o line will be talented, just going to take many games for them gel and get the experience as a collective group to where they need to be.
Und has talented defensive backs that can run with and be hooked up with the wrs, just simply lack the fundamentals. Frustrating. I personally see a big big improvement. I hope so anyways.
Two of my big concerns were the punt return and the kickoff return teams. Need returners that have a great feel for the game and have the quickness to excel. Someone with a kamikaze mind frame would do! Ok, not necessarily but just sprinkle in a little crazy. A major nemisis last year was kickoff team. Many teams returned a good amount of yards against us last year. Need to shore it up. Special teams are very crucial as they can lose or win many games. Very underrated. A good portion of field possession is usually dictated by the special teams.

So the Miami Hurricanes went on a marketing blitz and then their football team took off. I'm getting stupid here-
Miami hurricanes don't need marketing to take off. Most fbs teams dont need marketing to take off. A fcs team from North Dakota that has done nothing since becoming a d1 member less then a decade ago needs marketing. Considering we have a new coach that's bleeds Kelly green and because of that fu$&@&$ team to the south, und needs marketing. Bandwagoners, I believe, would like to come back and cheer on und more then they do the other team. Theyre on the bandwagon, so the smallest of things sways their mind. For us true fans, which there are plenty, I could watch und at hallock and be happy, it's the bandwagoners that need something else to show up. Winning doesn't always keep people in the seats, so you need to occupy them with something "special". Thats why they have marketing. Ideas!! Winning obviously helps but und and the alerus has done ZERO to attract the not so hard core fan. Give them a reason to go! Start with educating the people about the conference teams. Southern utah is more then a direction in a state, it's a fb team that made the playoffs and play in the big sky! We no longer play augustana and mankato. Hype up the teams that not only will play at the alerus but the ones on he road as well. We now have the product and coach to compete with 95% of the teams in fcs and they are winning. A year away from doing special things. It's time the "marketing team " acknowledges und has a football team! I might add that I hope the students could spare a couple hours of their busy Saturdays to actually attend a game. That was incredible when they showed up and you could hear them. Miss those days

Marketing works for anything. I visit mexico annually and in their (locals) own words , corona is skunk piss! Until they started marketing america they were in shambles. Now people think it's a vacation in a bottle. Best thing since sliced bread. Yet they add enough lemon or lime to it that they are simply kiling the skunk. All in the marketing. Same applies to Jose Cuervo, locals won't touch that crap.
If und and or marketers could come up with ideas that promoted the "other" sports, not named hockey, as an event giving the people that don't really care about being there and watching a reason to come back. I'm a hardcore football fan missing roughly four home games in 25 years, so I don't need anything other then the game but their are plenty of women and kids that aren't interested. Yes the bandwagoners will slowly trickle in as the winning continues but und and the alerus need to step it up, as well as the Betty. Und has a fantastic promoter and the should use him...bubba!!!

That is B.S. NDSU is in the same university system as UND and has to deal with the same budget issues, but nothing seems to stop their marketing effort, which is much better than ours (and always has been). Cripes, I see billboards for NDSU from Brainerd, MN to the Twin Cities and all points in between. UND's presence is lacking in the region and I don't want to hear that we can't do anything about it because of "budget cuts". How many state appropriated dollars go to athletics anyway? I know our athletic scholarships are privately funded for the most part.
If the marketing people at UND don't have what they need, then it is high time they start getting it. And that starts with a President who understands the importance of athletics as a marketing tool for the entire campus. I really hope whomever gets the job understands that.
And please, spare the cute little comments about how "If I am willing to write a check, they'll gladly do it". I already give in the form of season tickets and Champions Club membership, as do a lot of people on this forum. It all starts with leadership and for the past 10 years or so, NDSU has been much better than UND in that area.
End Rant.
I'm in agreeance with you, but I cannot stand having the FU school mentioned in any manner on this board.
When you look into the world of sports, football would seem to be the number sport in attention getting closely followed by basketball. Baseball and soccer would seem to be second tier. Hockey and golf and maybe a few others gather some followings but are a distant. People outside the nortern Midwest and northen east coast have no clue what a ice rink and puck are, more less care about it. UND might be one of only a handful of schools as to where hockey is #1. They (und) really need to step up on everything that's not hockey. Keep doing what they're doing with hockey and pretend there are other sports being played at und. Grab the national attention in every sport!!! Bubba has changed the outlook and future of this program, now it's Unds turn. Step it up !! I've even noticed the our local station(wdaz), the football teams highlights come after high school girls volleyball. Not all the time but has happened. Bandwagoners have gone south and we need to market more then ever. Time is now!

All of the key defensive secondary players from last season will return in 2016 with valuable experience. As a result, the secondary will be much better.
Cole Reyes is the best player of the bunch and is yet only to be a junior. *Possibly* (if not already) could be the best player on UND's roster next season.
Both Arnell and Palmborg got experience last season; I see either one of them filling the other safety spot quite admirably. Also, one of the incoming freshmen will get their shirt pulled and add to the safety depth (and/or special teams); possibilities include Jordan Canady, Jake Geier, or Tim Ryan (all three are very talented football players).
At corner, experience is very key, and all returners have it. Deion Harris will again be the lockdown guy, and he will be good. Tyus Carter did some very good things as a true freshman last season; after his year of freshmen weights, watch out. Also, the returning experience of Jahmere Irvin-Sills and Chris Carter is important. Vashon Tucker is a wildcard type player at the spot. Although both incoming CB freshmen Holm and Randolph are talented, they may not see the field due to the four or five ahead of them - will be something interesting to watch in fall camp.
Looking at the secondary as a whole, hard to imagine they won't be better in 2016. Losing Will Ratelle is a tough one, but with the returning secondary experience and the tremendous front-line depth developing, UND's defense may very well be better in 2016 than 2015. Good things ahead!
Go UND Fighting Hawks!
Yeah you might be right about Holm and Randolph or any other true freshman for that matter. Absolutely nothing wrong with that! That means the staff has trust in the returners and to be honest, my feeling has been true freshman should always redshirt. Theres certain cases to where the talent is to invaluable, but more often then not these young men need a good year or two to muscle up an mature. It's also an indicator as to where your program is. If you bring in great talent and they're not playing right away, the odds are you have great talent already playing. Quality depth!!!!
Can it be august yet!?

With Harris,Carter, JIS, Reyes, arnell, carter #2, tucker, and maybe a couple of red shirts pulled next year, we will have a lot of quality guys competing for playing time. how far away are we from having the secondary being on par with the rest of the defense?
There is some talent in the secondary, they just neede to be coached, as the fundamementals have been lacking. When you sprinkle in the youth factor it was a terrible blend. I witnessed many times last year that the cbs were glued to their player but the lacked the basic fundamental of watching the opposing players eyes, as there were no hands up or not turning around to make a play on the ball. Quite a few footballs hit our boys jerseys.
Reyes is absolute stud! He will be on some all American lists next year. I really like Harris, great length and determination, he just needs to learn the fundamentals. Jahmere must have talent as he played a bit while at Mississippi St. Having a healthy arnell back is a huge lift. He has the nasty and quickness to compliment Reyes. I think holm will have his shirt pulled as he is much to talented.
To put in perspective, Unds secondary was incredibly young and inexperienced. We had a true fresh, true soph, soph and a first year juco transfer. Backups were first year soph transfer, true soph, sen walk on and another first yr juco transfer. After an injury we had another true fresh come in. Only Reyes and James (walk on) had more then 2 years in this program. Five of the top nine players first year guys. With the aggressive blitzing style of defense that und plays, it puts a huge burden on the secondary. Very isolated! With a little more experience this year, I see a big improvement. Adding the quality depth as the coaching staff has done, is going to help tremendously! Bowling green will show us what kind of strides they have made as they will tested.
Wish it was football season!!!!
