  1. Damn! I was hoping for a chamioship this year, of all years. Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?
  2. Tough to get those plans taken care of when you're sitting around in your underwear picking your nose in Aunt Lucy's basement while you're typing on your "big sister"'s computer.
  3. Are you posting the same "woe is me" stuff on www.bisonville.com? It seems that they have a lady's basketball team, too. I wonder how many are buying the "I am NOT a relative" bit... two threads about the girl on a message board of a team that likely had little chance of landing her? As for the topic subject, good luck to her in New Mexico. It's always good publicity for the state when a ND native is able to use their athletic talents to parlay a scholarship.
  4. Why do they stop at 40? Why not 50 teams? Or maybe 75? Hell, how about a top 100 DII poll, just to make things interesting.

    Joe Finley

    Thanks, post is corrected.

    Joe Finley

Where do you come up with some of these? How could you possibly know what the USA coaching staff is looking for in any player? I know that you have been saying this ever since Genoway committed, but what do you base this on? Is it simply the fact that he has played both forward and defense in the past? Without seeing him play, and I haven't either, it seems to me to be pretty difficult to have an idea what sort of player he will be for the Sioux. Regarding Joe Finley, I agree with the person that says he seems to be too nice of a guy on the ice at times. As the year progressed, he did seem to anticipate the play much better and was caught out of position much less often. Hopefully he is able to feed off of the energy that Smaby put forth last year and use it in much the same way. I think that most Sioux fans would agree that Smaby struggled as a freshman as well and his career turned out pretty OK.
  7. While one can categorize a "can't miss" to whatever number they want, it is NEVER an exact science. Ask Jason Herter, or the Vancouver Canucks, for that matter. It would be interesting to know what the message board experts thought of Blake Wheeler before he had played a game for Minnesota. If someone such as Wayne Gretzky felt he was a legit pick at #5, that should be a good enough explanation. To call someone that knew the game of hockey better at the age of 10 than you likely ever will "delusional" seems quite laughable.
  8. I live where there is sand and there is no way I could flood a rink in the yard without using some sort of liner. There are a few options out there, such as: NiceRink Farley Ice N Go Ice Rinks Is either of these better? Or is there another product out there (clear poly maybe?) that works just as well without the expense? How about size?

    CWU vs UND

Another missed field goal by Hellevang. Good to hear the words "Coach Lotysz" from the guys. Greg's a good guy and the Sioux are better for it with him involved.
  10. I'm pretty sure that Forney wore 27 as a high school freshman.
  11. Do they still do a "skate with the Sioux" night? My 5 year old would sure get a kick out of that.

    Dane Jackson

There's a letter to the editor of the Herald today basically chastising Hakstol for not hiring Steve Johnson. Here's the link. Scroll down to the last letter on the page. The writer does preface the letter by saying "Taking nothing away from Dane Jackson", then goes on to say how "UND could jeopardize its recruiting of elite U.S.-born players. All three current UND coaches are Canadian-born players. UND has sent a message to U.S.-born players that its recruiting focus is elsewhere..." Hmm... where is Brad Berry from? How were the Sioux ever able to recruit any US-born players when he was here? The writer then adds "Many USHL coaches vocally supported Johnson in his bid to become a UND assistant." He failed to mention how that would directly affect the success that their own teams would have, as Johnson would have no longer been in the league for them to coach against. I find it quite amusing that Hakstol takes his first two teams to the Frozen Four, then gets a letter written in the Herald that basically calls him a dumba$$ because he "missed an excellent opportunity to promote a Grand Forks native." I think Brad Schlossman should write an article addressing these issues with Hakstol. Maybe then the Johnson PR machine will relax a bit.
  13. Brady is a transfer from UND-Lake Region, graduated from Four Winds High School in 2004. Did a search in the DL journal archives, but it is now a fee service and I'm not going to pay for further info. Here's the search results.
  14. Does anyone remember the following: "Questions? Comments? Criticisms?" ;) For those of us not fortunate enough to get into FW's Soc. Classes. FW's sister was my wife's landlord back in the days of the flood. She's good people, too.
  15. You're way too easy on the lad. My response would have been that someone needs to grow a pair, and if they have a problem with something being done at UND, that they should man up, attach their actual name to their post, and provide some sources. Until that happens, pretty difficult for those of us, (that don't know all the facts like "siouxgoo", "fs1", and "d1sioux" say that they do), reading these accusations to give any merit to them.
  16. somebody get the popcorn, we're in for a show in this thread...

    Phil Kessel

As well as the Patrick O'Sullivan situation. These are all the nightmare vicarious parents that people with kids in sports should aspire NOT to be.
  18. How many "head coach" positions can a team have? Haven't you heard the one about "assume"? According to who? You? Umm... did you read the article in today's GF Herald? Or how about Brad Schlossman's blog? The difference in pay was specifically mentioned as NOT BEING A FACTOR for Steve Johnson. OK. I posted two of those names just to mention them, as the previous post to mine said it would be someone not mentioned yet. Didn't know they were still playing hockey. Didn't look it up. Didn't seriously consider either to be candidates. Kober has been a Head Coach/GM in the USHL. Plus he's coached some quality Team ND teams in the past. He'd certainly be a quality candidate. More "coaching" experience than Litke. It would be "neat" if they applied? What are the reasons you doubt they'd apply? Coaching philosophies? Discipline philosophies? Maybe Hastings wants to get closer to home, being from Crookston?
  19. The Hurricanes let Ryan go after he severely injured his knee two seasons ago. Carolina press release on his signing.
  20. Jim Scanlan? John Marks? Mark Pivetz? Rick Zombo? Brad Williamson? Tim O'Connell? Getting warmer?
  21. Well, that clears everything up. It's not like he isn't replaceable.
  22. Exactly. If you know so much, tell us what school the AD is at. So, we're supposed to believe that Dale Lennon made a phone call to a D-IA Athletic Director and said to that AD "Do you have any job openings?" GMAFB
  23. So what did Mr. Taylor tell DL?
  24. Check this thread.
  25. How about James Patrick? He knows how to play D at the next level. Plus he wants to be a coach... (at least it is mentioned in the New England Hockey Journal about him coaching.)
