  1. Someone sent me some light reading, some homework, if you will.

    Interesting document: http://fs.ncaa.org/D...e=REFERENCES_R7

Section 2.d is quite a compelling read:

You are not eligible in any sport if, because of your athletics ability, you were paid for work you did not perform, were paid at a rate higher than the going rate or were paid for the value an employer placed on your reputation, fame or personal following. [bylaw 12.4]

    That begs two questions:

    - Were those lads hired because they were NDSU FB players, namely, recognizable figures due to athletic ability?

    - Did they perform the work they were paid for (meaning collect signatures)?

I don't know the answers because the NCAA would be the ones who would have the answers and I can't figure those NCAA folks out.

  2. Not quite sure what the hold up is with this situation though...

The fact that of eight named so far are four defensive backs, including two starting corners, has nothing to do with this.

Nor does the starting RB and starting LG being another two of the eight.

    Move along. Nothing to see.

  3. At the end of each petition form that is turned in is this affidavit section to be signed by the person who circulated the petition:

    State of North Dakota )

    ) ss.

    County of _________________ )

    (county where signed)

I, ____________________, being sworn, say that I am a qualified elector; that I reside at

    __________________;

    (circulator) (address)

that each signature contained on the attached petition was executed in my presence; and that to the best of my

    knowledge and belief each individual whose signature appears on the attached petition is a qualified elector;

and that each signature contained on the attached petition is the genuine signature of the individual whose

    name it purports to be.

    __________________________________________

    ( signature of circulator )

Subscribed and sworn to before me on _____________, ______, at ____________, North Dakota.

    ( city )

    (Notary Seal) _______________________________________

    (signature of notary)

    Notary Public

    My commission expires_______________________

When you take on circulating a petition that's the standard you are held to. It's right there in writing for anyone to read.

  4. Who that collects signatures on petitions reads the names/signatures of all the people who sign? Maybe, and this is a b-I-g maybe, the guys collecting the signatures are guilty of nothing more than not comparing IDs to signatures. Don't think this is what happened, but let's not throw everyone under the bus right away.

    From: http://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2012-09-04/eight-ndsu-players-face-charges-forging-signatures-ballot-initiativ

Jaeger said one person signed the name of Hillary Rodham, who is better known as Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and listed her as living at the White House.

Either they (a) didn't recognize Mrs. Clinton and tell her not to sign because she's not a North Dakotan, or (b) didn't stop someone from forging Mrs. Clinton's signature. Either way, it's the petitioner's job to keep problems off their petitions.

Note: I'm assuming benefit of doubt here, namely, someone other than one of the NDSU FB players wrote "Hillary Rodham, (address) White House".

  5. Or if this really unwinds into something bigger, somebody in Indiana may cough "lack of institutional control" ... sort of like the whispers going around Missoula right now.

C'mon Scott, I've read the other school's board. This is just a conspiracy by UND grads out to get NDSU football players.

  6. These guys were paid to go out and gather signatures (completely legal).

However, the AG is claiming they added fraudulent signatures to the petitions they turned in and were caught.

    http://www.ag.state....ts/09-04-12.pdf

    Key excerpts:

A review of purported signatures on several of the petitions raised suspicions in the Secretary of State’s office, and Jaeger met with Stenehjem, who launched a criminal investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The investigation revealed that several circulators of the petitions had forged signatures on the petitions, either by taking names from the telephone directory, cell phone contact lists of the circulators, or simply making up names of people.

Charges have been filed against Aireal Boyd, Josh Colville, Josh Gatlin, Demetrius Grey, Jennifer Krahn, Lane O’Brien, Samuel Ojuri, Brendin Pierre, Antonio Rodgers, Bryan Shepherd and Marcus Williams, for facilitation of voter fraud or filing a false statement.

The charges are Class A Misdemeanors.

Note: That's the same level of charge that former NDSU linebacker Brendan Jemison faces for his junk out in public "wardrobe malfunction".

The criminal complaints allege that each of the circulators of a petition are required to sign an affidavit stating they witnessed all the signatures and that all signatures are genuine. However, the investigation found that the statements were not correct and that many of the individuals whose signatures appeared on the petitions had not, in fact, signed them.

In my opinion, Townsend because of his athleticism back there. But Nichols is also an option to get you out of the game.

It has become very apparent and abundantly clear that the staff will do anything possible to preserve the redshirts of Ryan Bartels and Joe Mollberg. I think Jake Hanson might have his shirt pulled before those 2. Maybe I am wrong.

Gee, not that long ago another guy brought up using Jake Hanson (in an emergency) to preserve Bartels and Mollberg. Who was that guy, and why does my shoulder suddenly hurt? ;):D

  8. Lines?

    Getter, Setter, Shooter.

Getter: The guy who "gets" the puck either through speed (out-racing to the puck) or owning the boards, this person gets it to ...

Setter: The creative one on the line, the guy who knows where his teammates are and sets the up while still creating his own chances.

Shooter: The guy who seems to be open in the scoring space wherever that may be, and has the shot to make it happen.

    Getter. Setter. Shooter.

  9. I keep hearing how deep we are at receiver, so, run (QB converted to TE) Seth Nichols under center as Hendrickson's backup for a couple weeks. They'll only have to run the "no Hanson" playbook: Jake goes left, Jake goes right, Mitch up the middle. Up 21? Oh Jer ... Up 35? Oh PJ ...

Yes, Nichols is listed as a TE but we never throw to TEs anyway so just tell Taylor Grant that it's time to put the blocking pads on.
