  1. I believe you are vastly overestimating how well the average person is paying attention. As far as goalposts been moved, yes, agree. The initial curve was flattened. The medical system had their preparation time. Now they behave as if the goal is zero, as if they don't want any cases? Unrealistic. Virus gonna virus. As far as "endgame" ... this is merely round one in a great game of social herding Simon says. Next thing they'll tell us wearing an onion on our belt* will ward off the virus ... and there'll be a run on Walla Walla sweets, and people who wear kohlrabi (close but not right, like a mask that doesn't cover your nose), and others with nothing (the anti-veggers). *If only @PCM were here for that reference.
  2. Well, we finally found something bigger than Nebraska Football --> The Big Ten. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/nebraska-says-its-fully-committed-to-big-ten-conference-despite-2020-college-football-season-cancellation/
  3. Their miracle goalie is regressing to the mean.
  4. "Flatten the curve." That does not say "no deaths". It does not say "no more spreading". Flatten the curve was good persuasion-speak. It sounds good, like you're helping. But the true motive behind it was to slow the spread* until the medical world understood ugly truths like hospitalization rates and mortality rates. Most people were and are not smart enough to realize the curve that was being flattened ... was hospital admissions. Most people aren't smart enough to realize the area under the curve will end up being the same, ... because virus gonna virus. *Notice they didn't go with "Slow the spread" as the mantra. Why? Not persuasive. It admits we're not stopping, only slowing, and it will spread.
  5. Well, you need a director of player development: Ryan Johnson https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Johnson_(ice_hockey,_born_1976)
  6. Atkinson (BC guy, yuck) would've been better --> he didn't have a SOG until 5OT.
  7. The land with no face masks: Holland's top scientists say there's no solid evidence coverings work and warn they could even damage the fight against Covid-19 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8583925/The-land-no-face-masks-Hollands-scientists-say-theres-no-solid-evidence-coverings-work.html The Dutch believe masks detract from a clear three-pronged message that has kept deaths from coronavirus down to less than half the rate in Britain: wash hands regularly, maintain social distancing of 1.5 metres and stay at home if suffering any symptoms.
  8. They should just truncate the present moniker to "Moes". They'd be the Esko Moes. PRESTO! Solution. Logo? Oh! Wise guy!?!?! Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk ....
  9. Funny thing is ... she's not on the street looting and burning. She's on Instagram calling to work within the system to fix the system. Discourse.
  10. Do me a favor: Read what you wrote there. Yes. These people are effectively doing the same thing as begging to sign their own death warrant. They're saying "please put me under Mao's China" or "put me under Stalin's Soviet Union, including the trip to the Gulag, please." Yes, our current system of government is the worst ... except for all the others tried in human history.
  11. Is that what I said? Or are you claiming to be some sort of mind reader? (You're not.) I'm disappointed that folks believe their recourse is the streets. It can be done better by dialog and at the ballot box. And there's far less mayhem and civil destruction. You don't believe me? I have three letters for you: A.O.C. <-- She defeated the US House Democrat Caucus Chair Joe Crowley, the #3 Dem in the House, a 10-term incumbent, in what was widely seen as the biggest upset victory in the 2018 midterm election primaries.
  12. What gives me a thrill? A democratically elected representative republic working. What ires me? Folks that believe other systems will work out better. They won't. Don't believe me. Ask the Soviets, the Chinese, people who lived under Nazi Germany, anyone who lived under Baby Doc Duvalier's terror reign, today's Venezuelans, and the rest of history's ghastly list of other unelected, abusive regimes .
  13. @Hayduke1 -- regarding Mr. Cain's demise (regards to his family), do we know when and where he contracted the virus? To claim to is pure speculation.
  14. Red Town, Blue Town?
  15. You got a copyright or trademark on that one yet?

  18. Toews then expanded on his thoughts a few minutes later in the interview. “Does anybody really know how and when people catch this thing?” he said. “The best you can do is get good rest, eat healthy, take care of your body, do the little things that lower your chances. What else can you do? https://chicago.suntimes.com/blackhawks/2020/7/22/21334757/blackhawks-jonathan-toews-voted-against-nhl-cba-return-to-play-plan
  19. A simple reality check for some of you: You are human. Viruses attack living things, like humans. Viruses tend to do bad things to what they attack, up to and including kill them. As a human you are subject to viral attack. And it may kill you. But, as a human, sooner or later, something is going to kill you, if not just simply time. And as smart and world-dominating humans think they are, viruses still rule. Don’t believe me? How come the common cold still exists with all the bright shiny technology and smarts of humanity. Viruses still rule humans. Probably always will. So get over yourself. You’re going to die. I’m not saying to play in traffic, but sooner or later, we’re all dead. So go about your life. Don’t take stupid risks, but you have to live, or you’re dead already. Me personally, I more fear the personal economic damage this may do than the personal biologic damage. That’s my personal risk assessment. Yours may vary.

  21. < puts on Moderator cap > OK, we've let this one go far-a-field for a long time. Call it a "steam dump"; blow off some steam. What will not pass muster is obscenities directed at another poster. Period. Disagree. Talk politics in this and only this thread on this forum. This is the one and only, small, sandbox here for that. But if I see it keep getting directly personal and/or vulgar, well, I too am a "governor" of sorts and have my own flavor of "stay at home" orders to give. The Moderation Team

  24. It's ba-a-a-ack. The rules, altered slightly for 2020 because you're picking from the field of 24 teams: - pick nine (9) forwards - pick six (6) defensemen - straight POINTS, not goals, POINTS (G + A) scored by your players in the playoffs to the Cup determines winner - no more than five (5) players from a single NHL team on your team Teams must be in before first playoff puck drop Saturday August 1, 2020. And as before, I'm not going to have much time to track scores; I'll need help with it. Thanks to everyone in advance. 2019 Game 2018 Game 2017 Game
