  1. You ever looked in the NDSU press box at their stacks of stuff? They've thought through scenarios and have it written down. Meh. Just go out there and wing it.
  2. They have a two minute drill plan. They have a plan for contingencies within that. When they call a play, they'd better have a plan in mind for what's next (X and longer, X and same, X and shorter) given what's about to happen. Heck, didn't the 49ers used to script their first 20 plays? <-- OK, that's a bit overboard in planning.
  3. That is a key here: Some of these folks may find the grass isn't always greener.
  4. We (meaning the coaching staff) can discuss chart contents between games. And I agree not everyone's chart will be the same. But having a chart, having the decision pre-made, so you don't make a bad decision under pressure, is what I'm looking for: game management. ... words here about failing to plan is planning to fail ...
  5. That is accurate, but neither do you kill a golden goose when you have one. And yes, I still think UND should have lax as a spring mens sport if we had resources for it. Yes, even over baseball.
  6. My best ever game time smuggle in old REA? Two full turkey and taco meat grinders, one down each forearm of my jacket. The pros in my era pre-staged their items during Gopher or Badgers week. (I'm pure and innocent; I only served as technical advisor. )
  7. You've narrowed it down to ... all of Walsh.
  8. Straight up icy. < slow clap >
  9. Why'd I hear banjo music in the background when I read that?
  10. He's 15 right now! He'd be just 18 in fall of 2024.
  11. If you checked female would you be from Venus?
  12. Start back at beginning of thread; it's discussed. Thanks.
  13. The NCAA will run a Frozen Four over Easter weekend. That they'll overrun Thanksgiving surprises you? The NCAA is greater than saying thanks, greater than any force in the universe. Now bow down and pray toward Indianapolis you heathen.
  14. I humbly submit the following to Bubba for off-season reading. https://www.footballstudyhall.com/2017/9/14/16300604/college-football-fourth-down-conversions Now if the chart's conversion rates (across the top) are not UND's the chart would need updating for UND. But that chart should be in someone's hands on the sideline or press box. Some'll say "gut!" but under pressure with a clock running having the decision pre-made is smart. Note this reference only goes out to 60 yards from the goal line. At 80 yards out it clearly implies punt. Mentioning "in hands", I assume they also have one of these (thank you rocky top). Again, pre-make the decisions for efficiency in managing the game. https://s3media.247sports.com/Uploads/Assets/510/890/3890510.jpg
  15. You base this upon?
  16. I can agree with one of those (avoiding conference rematches), but the other, geography, aka regionalization, is a pox and an abomination to an equitable national championship bracket. The SRS having no bearing on bracketing is not how other NCAA brackets are formed, and is pure folly. See: SH v HC. Use it or not. Sort of using it is no better than DSFRWSAS. If you're going to regionalize, why not declare four sites for each of the first two weekends and bring in four teams to each. Each site hosts a Saturday FCS playoff double-header. When there are eight teams left, go back to home sites until the title game. < exhale > < rant mode off >
  17. It giveth, it taketh away.
  18. I believe I said this about the transfer portal in the hockey forum: Going forward, your connections, your human intelligence network, is more valuable than ever. It will give you insights, and more important, early insights, on who may come available and if they are a fit to your needs and program. Do we have enough and the right football connections to thrive in this new portal era? For example, Tibesar may be out as DC at Oregon State, but what's he know? Landry is at Temple, ... and? File this under "off field game management" and something to observe.
  19. Well, they have the head coach position posted: https://prd.hcm.ndus.edu/psc/recruit/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM_FL.HRS_CG_SEARCH_FL.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_JBPST_FL&Action=U&FOCUS=Applicant&SiteId=1&JobOpeningId=2937340&PostingSeq=1&
  20. Thanks for the info @Hammersmith ... but it's still gross and seems horribly unjust. And I'm still interested in the 2021 FCS SRS numbers. Using (Massey/Sagarin) Ratings this week: Holy Cross (31/151) v. Sacred Heart (84/202) Northern Iowa (6/99) v. EWU (4/94) For reference UND is (14/122). Note: Sagarin ratings are all DI, not just FCS.
  21. I've seen how UND Hockey players "decorate" where they live. That's all I'm gonna say about that. Signed, Former Walsh Hall RA
  22. I hope you're right. And whatever that Bison OL mojo is, can he bring some of that with? No disrespect to our guys, but NDSU has been the dominant OL in FCS for over a decade. It's OK to learn from them.
  23. Nelson entering the portal isn't great, but here's hoping the coaches focus on it as opportunity, not loss.
  24. Added two words.
  25. I believe he's referencing going on 4th down on the "minus 20" in the third against NDSU. That was so out of character, so off script, I could not believe what was happening. Be aggressive, but on the "plus 20". To use the hockey phraseology, sometimes high off the glass IS the best play.
