Most of RPI is in the portal right now. They have a lame duck president who has done nothing to help athletics. They’ve named the replacement, but haven’t renewed the mens hockey coach’s contract (expired 4/1). It’s a mess.

And yet they do it. What’s their secret? Depth? Conditioning? Recruiting? Because UND isn’t there yet.

The easiest way to see what a player has left is to find them at HockeyDB and count seasons played, but do NOT count 2020-21. You still only get to play four seasons but 2020-21 does NOT count as a season played for anyone.

If Daschke had two left it’s a no-brainer. But he has one. That would make me look for a two-year player for the reasons I listed before.

Radio guys said UND played 18 games from March to November of 2021, and it could’ve been more if not for games being Covid cancellations. A light spring makes sense in that perspective.

Schlossman thinks a defenseman from the portal. I'm looking 12 months from now: if none use their Covid years, Frisch, Jandric, and Ferner are done and Kleven could go early. Depending on what they'd bring in (if it's a one year guy) that would only leave Moore, Johnson, and Bast! If they do look for a defenseman in the portal ... I sure hope they're thinking about that. Or do you bite the bullet, and bring in a pipeline recruit to be the eighth defenseman and develop (and hopefully not need him and burn his redshirt).
