  1. One other idea (please note the sarcasm dripping from it): - If they aren't going to call a major, even when it is clear it is the appropriate call, why not just pull those useless sections out of the rulebook?
  2. My solution: - Make the "assistant referees" into "linesmen" again. They don't make the calls anyway so why have them there. - Have a game referee in the press box and connected wirelessly to the on-ice referee. Each has the power to make calls, but only one guy is making the calls (because that's all the fan will see blowing a whistle). - The press box referee would be a more senior official, a guy who can't keep up with the pace on skates any more but knows the game. - Did I mention that the press box referee would be wired so that everything he looks at during the game would be video recorded so he could be graded, and sanctioned, for not calling things?
  3. The first DU goal: Smaby made the right play trying to get a skate on it. There were two DU sticks waiting to pound the puck into the open net. He got a skate on it but to no avail. The second DU goal: He had the man tied up so the tip would go wide and it worked. How do we know? The tip hit Smaby! By bad fortune the puck went off Smaby and into the top of the net. Neither are a defenseman's fault. If he hadn't been there in either case, then blame someone.
  4. On the CBJ website? Who's their associate head coach again?
  5. However, you have also chosen to remove yourself from some things that are open to you. I notice you self-identify consistently as "Native" (senator, AI Programs, All Nations). Do other senators self-identify as a "Norwegian Senator on Student Government", etc? Does Dr. Kupchella self-identify as (insert his demographic here, I have no idea what it is, nor do I care or believe it matters) president of UND? Wasn't the issue that consuming alcohol near a tipi is completely inappropriate behavior (not saying it was done by people who knew that)? And the debris (cans) nearby (or was it in) was inappropriate as well. Putting it at tailgating is putting it in an environment where alcohol is consumed and the chance for a misplaced or strewn can is there as well. I would think it would be wiser to not put the tipi into such an environment if the chance for a mistake by someone unaware exists.
  6. And the D/L/Nakota people do claim it when it is a French or Ojibwe word? How does that work?
  7. You already can today. You are chosing not to. You have self-segregated. And it's a shame. Wasn't there a problem not that long ago with inappropriate behavior in/near a tipi? The concept you propose seems not far off from the same.
  8. Are all Irish people insulted when something similar to that is tossed Notre Dame's way? Are all Germanic peoples insulted when "Vandals suck" is tossed U of Idaho's way? Vandal -- a member of the Germanic people ... (www.cogsci.princeton.edu/cgi-bin/webwn) People who say things like that self-identify as poor fans (cheer for your team, not against the other). You can't fix them until they identify themselves.
  9. Can someone explain to me how the D/L/Nakota people "own" a word, much less a word that is derived from French and Ojibwe origins?
  10. That's no poll. The methodology is scientifically accepted practice for surveys done by a nationally respected survey agency, Peter Harris Research Group, Inc. (They put their name and reputation on it.) That wasn't a survey in the hallway.
  11. Reasons for keeping? Because the majority of Native Americans say it should not change.
  12. UND provided 130 athletic scholarships last year. 80 Native students got diversity waivers. There were 400 diversity waivers. By your own words, Natives Americans got about 20% of the diversity waivers, right? And there were three times the number of diversity waivers than athletic scholarships. How do those numbers look in comparisons? You are a student at a major American university. You don't exactly seem to be living on your knees as you'd like to claim.
  13. Graham, you have your point of view. It seems to not align to the majority of Native Americans.
  14. Mr. Enno is Chippewa, and thus enrolled at Turtle Mountain. I believe his spouse is Sioux. What is your response to Greg Holy Bull, a Lakota Sioux man and supporter of the name? I assume you mean "wasicu" in a pure adjective, unbiased, unbigoted way. I'm sure you intend it in the same manner in which you refer to yourself as "Kracker." And howling won't change anything.
  15. Wasn't part of the rationale for putting the soccer field where it is to keep the area immediately north of the Medical School relatively undeveloped in case the Medical School expanded? If that was the goal, they've accomplished it.
  16. Whew! At least we know a state legislator won't have to ask for the Can-Am record book to be re-written.
  17. True, but this, says he'd have a lot of competition for time at WR also.
  18. Adam got around that by calling boarding:
  19. With leadership and vision like that and Don "ad lib" Adam what more can you ask for? Let me be blunt: Screw "supplementary discipline". UAA should have had a major power play against Wisconsin. UND should have had a major power play against Denver. How can I say that? "Supplementary discipline" tells me so. (Both minor calls were later upgraded to majors.) Call the right penalty the first time and you don't need "supplementary discipline".
  20. Anyone have the tape? I'm pretty sure they swapped out the D as well as all three forwards.
  21. Backup? I thought the term was "shill", or "pimp".
  22. I think they all should wear 28 pound boat anchors attached to their helmets for the Frozen Four.
