  1. And then there were four .... - Lt. Col. Tom Buning, West Point (Army) associate athletic director - John McCarthy, the athletic director of Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla - Rob Bollinger, the development officer for the UND Alumni Association and Foundation - Al Molde, the Gustavus Adolphus athletic director http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/11529190.htm
  2. You mean like recruiting Zach to get Jordan? No, wait, hold it. Jordie is older than Zach, but Zach came first, but Jordie got us to a title game .... Now I'm confused.

  4. Ol' Obi-Wan better just worry about the fool that followed him and then came and vaporized his Jedi "hind-end". I've been told that PCM played defense. I guess that's the answer to the question of this thread.
  5. A year in juniors helped Brady Murray. A year in juniors seems to have helped Ryan Duncan. A year in juniors, expecially since his season ended early with a leg injury, wouldn't hurt Chay Genoway. Fall of 2006 who knows what the needs will be. Will there be early departures?
  6. "I love it when a plan comes together." - Col. John "Hannibal" Smith
  7. What? On top, like a wrestling pin. Or underneath the pile with the football. Or behind their defenders on a hockey breakaway. Or standing over your knocked-out opponent in boxing. Or that kind of side-by-side thing in pairs figure skating spins. I just realized they meant what hockey skating position, like forward, defense, or goalie. What were you thinking about.
  8. Agreed. If "ice" and "suitable" is the issue, why not scale back to more like REA TRF size and put up a couple more buildings like the southwest arenas (the ones at I-94 and 45th Street) down in south Fargo (say down on 52nd Avenue by where the new HS is proposed to be)?
  9. Now that I hadn't heard. All I'd ever heard is that Cityscapes wants the arena as an "anchor" for their complex downtown.
  10. You are correct. "Little Ralph" in TRF holds about 3300 for about $15 MM. http://www.reatrf.com/fact.htm
  11. ... or the granite in the entry of the CIA Headquarters? Ask sauce. I only see carpet fibers and granite in those locations. But apparently you now understand the nuances.
  12. I removed the "more" from my original post. It's about having the seat and being able to use it to enjoy the game.
  13. Q: "What positions do the best athletes end up in?" On top, .... or underneath, behind, standing, that kind of side-by-side thing .... huh? What's that you say? Oops, sorry, misunderstood the question.
  14. How is it respectful that people who paid for a seat are forced to stand up?
  15. And the people in the choir robes behind Reverend Diggler all cried, "Amen!" There was another item that the student representatives have finally admitted, at least tacitly, is a problem: You can't fix it until you admit it's a problem. He (Haskins) as much as admitted a problem right there.
  16. Yup. History says this is the most likely scenario. Yup, yup, and yup. I whole-heartedly agree with what I exactly quoted. I'll take the group from Columbus (enthusiastics and good-taste language) representing my alma mater, thank you. Yup, and of course "PCM" is right. Exactly. Now, thinking they'll get four in the lower and two in the upper is madness. Those are money seats. I predict if the students do somehow get four in the lower they'll have no sections in the upper because UND/REA will need to sell those additional upper sections to make up for the lost revenues from more students in the lower. One more thought: Woe to the new AD who has to, on his first day on the job, explain to Varsity, Captains, and Coaches FSC members (who probably picked those seats because they like the corner view of the rink) that they have to move to new seats so the students can stand and swear.
  17. Not quite $1000, but not free either. http://siouxsports.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=104038
  18. Some Sioux in South Dakota protested the eagle feathers on the arrow logo on the helmet of the Watertown (HS) Arrows football team saying it was disrespectful to the sacred eagle feathers. If people will question sacred eagle feathers there, why won't they question the sacred bison painted on a basketball court? You need to understand this particular sub-context isn't a "Sioux name" question; this is a respect of another religion's sacred artifacts question: eagle feathers, bison.
  19. Doesn't Kansas' approved design already have buffalo on it and didn't we hear about a "no repeat" rule for those quarters? Honk-honk-honk ....
  20. Let's try again: A group of students considers something sacred and says images of it on a floor should not be walked on. Now, am I talking about images of eagle feathers or bison as the sacred thing? The issue "sauce" brought up isn't the entirety of UND's logo, just the sacred eagle feathers. "sauce" has a problem with the eagle feathers depicted in the granite. It is no different than the bison depicted on a hardcourt. The core issue in this particular sub-discussion is sacred things to people of a particular religion. The core issue has extensions to wherever those sacred things may fall. (And yes, they are all images, not actuals, in each case as well.)
  21. What was the knock on Roger Thomas? (Sorry Roger.) Great guy. Great with alumni. Great with teams and coaches. Questionable administrator. What's a stated goal for this new hire? Best candidate. Criteria are strong administrator, a funds raiser, runs a competitive at the highest levels "clean" program, and good facilities manager. This latest fellow (link above) seems to have some "cred" in those areas: Based on criteria, he seems like a fellow that should be met in person and evaluated for the position. What else does it say in there? All of those quotes were from UND's Senior Associate to the President, the UND Faculty Athletic Representative to the NCAA, the man who was in all of the meetings that led to the hiring of the first-year hockey coach that took his team to the NCAA title game, the current acting Athletic Director, and chair of the committee to hire a new Athletic Director: Phil Harmeson, JD (University of North Dakota). Harmeson is a bright and savvy guy, and a lawyer. I would truly be shocked if he made disparaging comments about any candidate in any context or forum. He knows and understands the ramifications of that. My suspicion is (no proof, just gut from interactions with him) is that folks approach Harmeson rabidly in favor of "their candidate" and Harmeson is cool to their approach and enthusiasm. That's not wrong. As a matter of fact, that's wholely appropriate on his part. If he were to show that same enthusiasm for any particular candidate what would be our perceptions of the process? Think about it. Harmeson's job is to oversee the process, an unbiased process, to acquire the best candidate for the job. Let Harmenson and his search committee do their jobs: find and recommend the best people for the job.
  22. Current roster of defensemen (in class order): Greene, Marvin Smaby, Bina, Foyt Radke Chorney, Jones, Lee Fall of 2006: Marto The way I see it, come the fall of 2006 the team could easily need three, maybe even four defensemen to stay at nine total (with Scott Foyt as the swingman between forward and ninth defense): Greene and Marvin gone for sure. Smaby could leave early. And we still don't know the definite medical status of Bina. I see one name for fall of 2006. That tells me that there is most likely space available for two more. I've seen some really good players mentioned in this thread. How about we watch all of them in the USHL for a year and see how they develop and let Hak and his staff do their jobs? In the mean time, Hak and his staff, doing their jobs, according to the Herald have made a move to keep a top local talent with outstanding credentials in town. That's fun and good for Grand Forks and UND. It's clear from the press reports that he has the talent and the personal skills (grades, leadership, etc.) to be a success if he does the work to be one. There are some others out there with the same package. Let's hope UND is fortunate enough to get them as well. My observations say there'll be space available.
