Well, at least now Buning can quit waiting and get something done on this front. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/14426181.htm

Go to this thread at USCHO and read posts 287-294 about DU's venture to NCAA post-season play. http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?t=58072 Remember, Denver is a school that dropped a 100-year-old baseball program (because of weather concerns, sound familiar?). Now, instead, they have springtime NCAA tournament games and excitement in mens lacrosse. Not a bad trade I'd say. DU's Lax site: http://denverpioneers.cstv.com/sports/m-la...acros-body.html

Army is in AHA and the hot whisper is that Navy will be adding hockey and joining AHA. Welcome to your Armed Forces Hockey Cup. Some good conversation about this article also at http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?t=58316 (especially post #128).

It'd be like getting an offer from Vito or Michael Corleone.

The 'hawks might be watchable then.

USCHO has a pretty good article on the effects of Air Force leaving College Hockey America (CHA) for Atlantic Hockey. http://www.uscho.com/news/id,12591/ANewWorldOrder.html The demise of the CHA could be a big blow to hockey at Bemidji State. Some of the other potential effects are startling: And most interestingly, this: .....

And Gopher fans think Sioux fans are tough on "Press Conference" Phil:
-
At one point it was said that mummsy and da-da arranged that imfamous press conference, not Phil, not USA Hockey. "Lindros-like".

Grand Forks has to have some advantage in this considering the Canadian equivalent of the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) is in Winnipeg. Ah shucks on that, eh? Of course some folks are bound and determined to save our vast emptiness forever. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/14421002.htm It's easy to discount the economic impacts when you have your safe, tenured position already, eh professor? Are they going to form a group called SIEVE!* * Save Incredibly Enormous Vast Emptiness!

Let's clear this area up once and for all: Verbals are verbals until they become signed national letters of intent announced via press release from the school. Rumors are just rumors until they become facts backed up by confirmation from reputable sources (or the Grand Forks Herald :) ).

Find the name of this person and you'll have the original source of the story. Isn't that special? This anonymous person is concerned about being fair to Potts by first letting him know the reasons the board wants him to resign. But he/she isn't the least bit concerned about the fairness of anonymously leaking the information to the media, allowing Potts to twist in the wind without knowing why he's being attacked in public.
-
Try this: Going "anonymously" to the papers with this --> BS. And we still don't know who did it (heck, it could even be Paulson crazy as that sounds). At least Holmberg was quoted on the record, not that he should have opened this up in this manner either. The problems between Potts and some ND SBoHE schools on equity funding --> not BS, more likely the heart of the matter --> Follow the money. If memory serves, each UND and NDSU was allowed to select (help select?) peer institutions based on set criteria (enrollments, programs offered, history ala "land grant", professional programs ala Med and Law). Should the "peers" be re-evaluated? Then again, I agree with "ScottM" (in that we have too many schools under ND SBoHE).
-
Why is a coach under contract admitting that he's applying for a job elsewhere before he's even a finalist for it? Who's hangin' whom out?
-
So I get that for this: Great, asking a question for confirmation shows one's "ignorance". And it turns out other folks heard: Gee, that aligns more with what I'd heard (and I'll choose to avoid the ad hominem attack).
-
The money in question is "equity funding" from ND SBoHE. Based on history Potts supports something like the current system and Chapman supports something else (where NDSU presumably would get a bigger slice). If Potts were gone might Chapman and the (three?) others who support a different system stand to gain (at their institutions)? That's the money. Watch (follow) that. "BS" indeed.

Very wise is Cratter.

The point is this: - Even with Metrodome Minnesota isn't considered a perennial national power. - The powerful Big Ten Conference is an also-ran in DI college baseball (as evidenced by Minnesota winning the Big Ten and not getting a sniff of a National Championship). If UND were to go DI, playing baseball (unless mandated by conference affiliation) would be sure red ink and a sure (badly) losing record. Thus, why not look at sports that might better fit the UND demographic, may have better gate, and better chance for DI success: lacrosse.

What's the difference between "had been in talks" and "offered the job"? I know I'm word-smithing, but it never explicitly says Miles was offered the UNC-W job, just that he is staying at NDSU.
-
When I think "Bears quarterback" I think "number two."

National Championship? Maybe? New level as in division? Maybe? I ask it; other Sioux fans ask it; why can't Buning? Rich has us all hung out with this application at UNI. UND deserves better than this, don't you think? UND was out of budget under Roger Thomas. Buning has been in place less than a year. You can't turn around a battleship in a bathtub. This is the only thing that surprises me. Was Buning saying it or was he quoted? Are we sure someone got the quote right? Last I heard UND will be undertaking a total athletics facilities long-term plan this summer. It'll be a map for facilities for the next ten years (locations, types, etc.). I would think the old REA would play into that. In less than a year. Give LTC Buning a chance. Look at what he's been handed: - the moniker issue from the NCAA - DI committee - volleyball coach resigns - the current Glas situation Yet: - FB made the regional semis - WBB made the regional final - mens hockey made the Frozen Four All is not lost.
-
Interesting. All of it, very interesting. And confusing. So I'm going to follow my own rule: When situations are confusing, just stop, rise above, look around, and follow the money. What's going on will soon become clear. It'll be very interested to see how ND SBoHE school and overall budgets get reported in the coming days. Who looks good (balanced), who looks bad (red ink). What's going on will sort itself out then.
-
You're confused. It was Zach Parise we took to get the brother.

Now it's official. Zajac, Trupp, LaPoint sign with UND.
