Looks like Friday's game will be on NHL Network. And Saturday NHL Network will be carrying Womens Hockey: Canada v. USA. Seems the prime-time "L" in NHL Network this weekend will stand for "Lamoureux".

Allow me to point out a man who could be both educational and humorous, as this definition of "irony" is accurate and hilarious: UND's record to date is coincidence.

Texas and Alabama Boise St and TCU Cincinnati and Florida Oregon and Ohio State Iowa and Georgia Tech Personally, I wish they'd have swapped Boise St and Iowa. Having Boise and TCU doesn't benchmark those two against "power" conferences. My way would do a better job of showing how legitimate the MWC and Big East are.

That was obvious the instant the "DI-A" and "DI-AA" names were dropped in favor of ... - Football Bowl Subdivision - Football Championship Subdivision Pretty clear right there that those in power view the bowls and a championship playoff as mutually exclusive arenas.

I was at USCHO and busting "Scooby Doo's" chops about how Minnesota's Schroder and Fairchild are on my milk carton. I decided it was time to create a "last seen on the side of milk carton" thread for college hockey 2009-10. I've given away two so far. I have a few more names. Feel free to add what's on your milk carton. Has anyone seen referee Brian Thul or referee Scott Bokal since November 21 in Denver?

VV sitting proved what I've said for a while: Split VV and Gregoire up. Last night proved that Gregoire's been the one carrying the load for that line all along.

They pick BC$ teams based on what the "BC$" abbreviation stands for: Big Cash $. The Bearcats just don't bring the cash-money, travel or TV, that the Hook'em Horns do. If it really turns out to be "Fiesta Bowl: Cincy and Boise" there'll be syndicated replays of "Everybody Loves Raymond" on local cable that'll get a bigger ratings number.

To the team and coaches: A two goal lead is not enough. Ever. Period. Winning 3-1 might be good enough, but guess what: Winning 8-2 is way more fun. Try it some time. To the league: Why have four officials on the ice if none of them can control the game or see what is happening, like a puck in the netting.

UND/UMD playing 4x4 with 30 seconds left in the second. 1-0 UND.
-
Tech's taken a major and Buckie already has potted two in the first 90 seconds of it. 2-0 Buckies. And now a frustrated Tech takes another so it give UW two minutes of 5x3. 3-0.

"Chris VandeVelde is day-to-day ... " But aren't we all? Sorry, but I had to say it. Jumpin' fritters, we're playing w/o 2/3 of the seniors and 2/3 of the captains. I'm assuming this puts Cichy into the line-up.

Carson-Newman didn't know what to do in Allendale, MI, today either.

Pending the outcome of Richmond, today's holding to Massey form. http://www.mratings.com/rate.php?lg=cf

Somebody posted that he couldn't understand all the hype about Olson after watching him at the U18 in Fargo last spring. Now that somebody is just smirking.

If he says it three times and clicks his heels together ...

I say by the end of the weekend they're going to change a Duluth goalie's initials to "K.Y." Yup, UND will be slipping it in so much and so often that Bulldog goalie will henceforth be known as "KY Hjelle".

I can't find it on the "internets", but my recollections say that Chrysler Corporation *paid* a tribe for the rights to use the name "Dakota" on a Dodge truck. They sold the name they call themselves in their language to a corporation to market a truck. That's more interesting than selling a word of French/Ojibwe etymology.

Isn't the code for defensemen: Slash my goalie and I'll beat you down. So, should Ballard have to apply a beat-down to himself now? (I have visions of a scene from "Fight Club".)

FAIL. The Bottineau campus was under the control of Minot State University during Penner's matriculations. You can see his college stats are listed as "MSU - Bottineau" (of the NJCAA). PS - Is Jason Blake a Ferris State Bulldog or a North Dakota Fighting Sioux? If you say "Sioux", Penner is a Maine Black Bear.

What's the point of breaking your stick over the net anyway. To me it shows a total lack of self-discipline and self-control, and a lack of maturity. And in this case the idoicy ended up harming someone else.

In a word, uninspired.

See the link I gave previously. There are three methods to get into compliance. The "three-prong test" of an institution's compliance (a recipient of federal funds can demonstrate compliance with Title IX by meeting any one of the three prongs): Prong one - Providing athletic participation opportunities that are substantially proportionate to the student enrollment, OR Prong two - Demonstrate a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented sex, OR Prong three - Full and effective accommodation of the interest and ability of underrepresented sex. Based on the last information I came across, UND uses "prong one" to stay in compliance. Adding womens, or eliminating mens, opportunities would restore the proportionality. Last I heard NDSU was using "prong three" and the following: On March 17, 2005, OCR announced a clarification of prong three of the three-part test of Title IX compliance. The guidance concerned the use web-based surveys to determine the level of interest in varsity athletics among the under-represented sex. I'm sure Hammersmith will correct me on this.

No, dropping a mens sport to rebalance into Title IX compliance was an available option (as it would negate a possible suit). Not a pretty one, but an available one at the time. Title IX doesn't say you have to match sports. Dropping a mens sport would meet the "proportionality" option (one of three possible ways) of compliance to Title IX. So yes, the options were as given.
