sprig Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Sweden/Russia are scoreless after one. Sweden looks like the better team so far. Quote
Vegas1 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Bob McKenzie thinks Bernier will get the start too, though he's not positive. HUGE game for Team USA. This year's Canada team appears to be a lot weaker than the last 3 years team. One thing they've really banked on the past 3 years is team defense, and they don't seem to be as strong in that area this year. Also, as Sioux Hab-it has mentioned, their offensive load is being carried by their 17 year olds. This year may be the best odds the U.S. has had against Canada in the past several years. Of course, throw in that it's a rival game and it's two North American teams playing one another, and not sure that any of that matters. Since Toews or any other Sioux player is on Team Canada this year, I have NO desire for Canada to win (not that there was much last year, but at least Johnny won gold). Team USA better win!!!! Have to watch it tape delayed however, due to having to go back to work tomorrow! Darn inservice days! And USA's top line features Colin Wilson out of Winnipeg. Its too bad we couldn't get this kid. He would have been great with Gregoire next year. Two old teammates playing with the Sioux. Quote
brianvf Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Russia is leading Sweden 1-0 after 2 periods. Quote

31-9 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Did his family move to the US, or is his playing for the US a dual citizenship thing? Russia up on Sweden 1-0 after two. Wilson was born in Greenwich, CT while his Dad was still playing for the NYR I believe . . . He did grow up in Canada, Manitoba I think, but he has always considered himself American despite holding dual citizenship. Quote
Superman0099 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 What time is the USA vs. Canada game on? Quote
brianvf Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I believe it starts at noon central time. Maybe 1pm. I forget how the time zone difference. Quote
sprig Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 What time is the USA vs. Canada game on? 1PM Central. Sweden/Russia going to OT. Sweden has 1:55 of PP time to start the 10 minute OT. Would guess this game could delay the start of the second game if it goes for the full OT and shootout. Wonder if we might see a rerun of last year's shootout in the TSN pregame of the US/Canada? Quote
brianvf Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Sweden wins it 2-1 in OT. They move onto the gold medal game. Quote

SiouxBetcha Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 0-0 with about 8 minutes remaining in period 1. Fast paced game and evenly matched at the moment. Quote

SiouxBetcha Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 End of period 1: USA 0 Canada 0 Great goaltending by Smith & Mason; no penalties??; solid defense; I would say quality scoring opportunities about even. Quote

SiouxBetcha Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Tavares took a penalty (kneeing) for Canada, but that was it for the period. Thanks for the update. No penalties for the period didn't seem right, but even with one it appears as though the refs are letting play hockey and earn victory the good old fashioned way. Quote
sprig Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Both teams look much better at moving the puck than either team in the first semi. Lots of good up and down action. Quote
Tsiouxnami Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Yikes, that could have VERY easily been a goal for Canada! Quote
SiouxBetcha Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Matthias scores for Canada. Canada 1 USA 0 Quote
