Penn state will be very interesting to watch this 2nd half of the year. They could very well be a bubble team and with the added depth for some teams in the ECAC and CCHA we could be due for 2 bid stealers from each conference. (assuming Quinnipiac and Mankato stay high enough in the NPI) They're going to have some very precarious games to play in for NPI purposes. They'll have chances obviously to bolster their NPI rank vs the high end teams in the Big Ten but based on how those games went early on this year they'll have to really battle to split most of those. (33) RIT home and away without McKenna and Jackson Smith (Both gone at world juniors UNLESS! Ethan Mackenzie beats out Smith for a left D spot) (27) Minnesota - 2 games (52) Notre Dame - 4 games. It seems like Notre Dame is bound to improve some during the 2nd half of the year. Quote

Obviously Verhoeff and others being watched closely as well. On one side, the CHL will be pushing the narrative that it hurts your draft stock and he’s under performing because the NCAA is “bad” in some way, not because the level of play in the CHL (and consequently how it prepares you for the next level) is lower. On the other side, and this is how I feel, if he’s not ready to dominate the NCAA he definitely isn’t ready for the NHL. What would dominating against CHL kids this year have done for his development, versus the NCAA exposing his opportunities and challenging him to raise his performance to meet? I’m sure it will depend on the kid and his family/advisors whether his ego wants to believe he’s the best and needs to be drafted number one, or he’s realistic about doing the hard work to become the best. Agreed on above, think its in his best interest to play 2 years of NCAA then make the jump. Everyone's in a rush tho.... Quote

brianvf Posted Thursday at 10:38 PM Posted Thursday at 10:38 PM It appears that some of these schools are taking lessons from the Mike Eaves Recruiting Plan. Gonna be a ton of de-commits from many schools: Quote

Shouldn’t the goal be to get prepared for the next level, not just reinforce what you are already good at. Getting ready for a long NHL career should be the focus. Should have come to Kalamazoo, Fersch and Herter would have coached him up. 2 Quote

Think there’s a good argument that quite a few NCHC schools would have challenged him to develop his full game more. (I’ve also never been sold on Gadowsky as a top tier coach either though so count me as biased) Quote

cberkas Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM Author Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM The guys calling the Miami game made it sound like Shika could still end up at Miami. The coaches and Shika made the decision to let him leave to play somewhere. They also said he signed an ATO in the ECHL. Quote
