MafiaMan
Dave Bergman, known for the hidden-ball trick at 1B and a member of the 1984 World Series champion Detroit Tigers, has died. He was 61.http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2015/02/02/detroit-tigers-dave-bergman/22755701/ I was and am a Tigers fan. That 1984 season was incredible in so many ways and there were so many great players on that team. A 9-0 start to the season and 35-5 after 40 games - just wow. Bergman's walk-off 3-run homer against the Blue Jays in early June of that season was a key moment for that team. So many great players - Chet Lemon, Larry Herndon, Darrell Evans, Kirk Gibson, Dan Petry, Jack Morris, Willie Hernandez, Lance Parrish, Aurelio Lopez...it's a travesty that Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell are not in the Hall of Fame. A damn MLB travesty. Rest in peace, Dave Bergman. And thanks for the memories of that magical season at Tiger Stadium. It's hard to believe it was 30 years ago.
