Looking for boat owners for Saturday volunteering

This is a long shot, but I'm trying to reach outside my own circle of friends to find some more help for this weekend.

END-WET, a 36-mile downriver swim in the Red River, is on Saturday, and with the river going up into flood stage again we're trying to get a few more power boats on the water. We're not anticipating an increased level of danger for the swimmers (except that the swim might be too easy with this much flow), but better safe than sorry. If you have a boat you'd be interested in driving up and down the river for a while on Saturday, we'll cover fuel money.

If you're interested or know someone who might be, please get in touch with Andy at endracing@gmail.com or 701-330-0709.

Some background:

This is the third year we've held this event. It was 27 miles (Grand Forks to Oslo) in 2012 and 2013, but we moved the start point to Belmont Park/Frog Point this year to make it 36 miles, which we hear is the longest swim in North America at the moment. As far as these swims have been, we've had about 25 people each year and they've all finished. It's pretty nuts.

Doesn't the Red's undercurrent make swimming in it very dangerous?

No more than any other big river. It doesn't have an "undercurrent" that flows separately from the surface; the most dangerous parts of the Red were the lowhead dams which were easy to go over and get pushed under, but those near Grand Forks have been removed.

This question comes up every year; here's a link to an article about the swimming ordinance and safety from last year: http://www.crookstontimes.com/article/20130705/NEWS/130709787?template=printart
