Today seven coaches were announced as the finalists for the award.

Norm Bazin, Massachusetts-Lowell – Hockey East Coach of the Year

Rick Bennett, Union – ECAC Coach of the Year and NCAA semifinalist

Bob Daniels, Ferris State – CCHA Coach of the Year and NCAA semifinalist *

Don Lucia, Minnesota – NCAA semifinalist *

Mel Pearson, Michigan Tech – WCHA Coach of the Year

Ryan Soderquist, Bentley College – Atlantic Hockey Coach of the Year

Jerry York, Boston College – NCAA semifinalist *

Not going to argue with that list but it is kind of interesting that Hak did not make it. He took a young, injury filled roster (not even a full one at that) to the regional semis and lost to a good team.

Hak didn't meet the qualifications because he wasn't the league coach of the year and we didn't qualify for the Frozen. That's how finalists are picked.
