Csonked Out Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I like the Nordiques...it fits with out northern theme...has precedent in hockey... The University of North Dakota Nordiques If were going after old NHL team names I vote for my favorite team, the Jets. It could also fit with the aviation theme. Quote

I too loved the Jets team, however I was never a fan of the name...maybe due to my disdain for "Benny and the Jets" theme... Quote
GeauxSioux Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 A mix of the old west and the NHL..... Rangers or Northern Rangers Quote

82SiouxGuy Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 A mix of the old west and the NHL..... Rangers or Northern Rangers A few other Rangers, but nobody noteworthy in college. Having the Texas Rangers and New York Rangers in professional sports is a point against for me. Rangers --- Drew University (Madison, New Jersey) Regis University (Denver, Colorado) Northwestern Oklahoma State University (Alva, Oklahoma) University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Kenosha, Wisconsin) I do like Northern Rangers better than many of the others, including plain Rangers. The only Northern anything I could find are: Nor'Easters --- University of New England (Biddeford, Maine) Northern Lights --- Montana State University-Northern (Havre, Montana) (men's team) Quote

So, is this the list (of serious suggestions)? What else has been discussed? Aviators Blizzard Cavalry Colts Hawks Jets Mallards Mavericks Mustangs Nodaks Nokotas (Horse) Nordiques Norse North Stars Outlaws Pilots Rangers Roughnecks Roughriders Shockers (as in "wheat shockers") Storm Thunder Vikings Warriors Wheat Kings Wild Wranglers Quote

You could also add Reapers. I'm sure that there are some others, but I can't think of them at this moment. Quote
dakota fairways Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I like the Nordiques...it fits with out northern theme...has precedent in hockey... The University of North Dakota Nordiques A Nordique is a Native Canadian from northern Quebec. Doubt it will pass the PC test. Then again, the US has always treated Canadians differently, so maybe the NCAA would be ignorant of the source of the name. Quote
