diggin42
Question: I'm in the market to purchase a new helmet for my 10 year old son. What is the safest hockey helmet on the market? The safest hockey helmet is simply one that fits right. You don't need to buy the most expensive helmet to have a safe helmet for a 10-yr old. A poor-fitting expensive helmet won't protect as well as a properly-fit used helmet. Make sure your son

andtheHomeoftheSIOUX!!
If you go to a shop like Gerrell's Hockey World or Duffy's Hockey and Sports (or any "real" hockey store) they will be able to sell you any variety of good options. For a 10 year old, there is no need for the most expensive helmet around. Like the other poster said, a good fit including the cage is most important. Talk to the salesmen and have them help you fit the helmet. I personally am a fan of Bauer helmets. Their 1500 is what most young kids wear, but the 4500 would also be an option. Most helmets like those are sold as combos, that is they come with a cage. Good luck and make sure your son has fun playing hockey!! http://www.bauer.com/gear/player/helmetsfacial
UNDHockeyUSA
Any information on the new M11 helmet? I guess they advertise this helmet as being the safest one on the market. When I inquired about it, they told me the best deal is the Bauer helmets. The M11 is also about $130-$140 dollars. Money well spent if this helmet can reduce concussions. The reason I'm asking is my son will start checking soon, so I want to make sure I buys a good helmet. Thanks for your help.
Vegas_Sioux
that is why you wear a properly fitted helmet
Hockeynerd88
There is no helmet that is going to prevent concussions. The M11 is a good helmet and is no more expensive than the other helmets (upper end Bauer, RBK 8). It is advertised and tested to be better at protecting against concussions (not prevent them). If its the same hit with the M11 and a different helmet, the effect is less with the M11. Don't let someone say "he just 10" so any helmet works. Its just as important to provide the protection for the younger kids as the older kids. If your kid is going to start checking, make the investment. Hockeynerd88
Undguy. Did you buy a helmet yet? What have you narrowed your choices down too?
The Sicatoka
If you're looking at a helmet, don't forget the mouthguard. Bruneteau is wearing a special helmet and special mouthguard because of his concussion history.
daherbie
We are going w/ the M11 for our 2 boys. Don't let anyone tell you doesn't matter at 10 year old level - it matters more so I'd say for kids. Also get good mouth gaurds and make sure they keep it in their mouth.
