Good for the Vet but bad for the HOA.

Actually, there really wasn't a good outcome for the HOA to begin with. They backed down, which means that their HOA Contract is weakened to the point where there is a possibility that parts of it can be summarily ignored if conditions occur (like finding a good enough excuse).

If they hadn't broken down, they'd've faced a horrific maelstrom that would have resulted in a terrible PR run that would ruin the association anyhow.

The best course of action would have been to talk to the guy with the pretense of taking action in conjunction to what the man has to say.

If they didn't want the flagpole there, fine. But find a place nearby that they would allow the flagpole and access to it for him so that he could do it there.

Does the community have a Clubhouse? Why not place the flagpole there and ask him to do the honors of raising the flag every morning and lowering it every evening? Holy Cow.... he'd get his wish AND the HOA looks patriotic in doing so. Can you find a more win/win situation?

Well, hindsight is 20/20. Now the HOA board look like morons and this veteran has them by the cahones. Lucky for the Board, this guy doesn't look like the type that would take advantage of it.

I think the HOA would be wise to revisit their contract and alter drastically or do away with entirely the "Aesthetic" clause.
