UND men's hockey made it to the NCAA's in Lake Placid in 1984, losing 1-2 in OT to Minnesota-Duluth. UND won the 3rd place game, 6-5 OT, over Michigan State.

On July 17, 1981, the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education officially changed the named of the Fieldhouse to the Hyslop Sports Center in honor of W. Kenneth Hyslop, a baseball player from 1904-06 and major benefactor to the university. Hyslop became an internationally-known businessman and oversees manager of industrial giants International Harvester and the Ford Motor Company in Spain. In 1938 he returned to the United States to become president and general manager of Massey-Ferguson, a farm equipment manufacturer. He died in May 1981 and left $6 million to UND with interest in athletics, physical recreation and intramural sports.

Sioux men wrap up fall season at Bill Ross Intercollegiate - www.fightingsioux.com

The Fighting Sioux men's golf team shot a final-round 318 today and finished in 13th place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The tournament was UND's final competition of the fall season.

The Sioux posted their lowest score of event in today's final round and finished with a three-round 973 (326-329-318) at the par-72, 7,318-yard Blue Hills Country Club.

Four seasons ago, another Michigan team went home unusually early after its 5-1 first-round loss to North Dakota in the NCAA Tournament. The Fighting Sioux were led by goalie Jordan Parise and his .971 tournament save percentage.

North Dakota has won 22-consecutive home openers. The last time the Sioux lost on their home turf was on Sept. 13, 1986 with they fell to Texas A&M Kingsville 67-44.

When it comes to opening the season against South Dakota, UND holds a 2-1-1 advantage. North Dakota first opened the season against the Coyotes on Oct. 4, 1952 with a 21-14 loss. On Sept. 19, 1970 the two teams played to a 14-14 tie.

The Sioux nabbed their first home-opener victory over the Coyotes on Sept. 22, 1009 with a 46-12 win and on Sept. 26, 1992 the Sioux were again victories with a 52-3 win.

Anyone remember the 1009 game?

Roebuck's athletic success began at Velva (N.D.) High School, where he earned 12 letters in football, basketball and baseball. He would go on to play both baseball and basketball at Mayville State (N.D.), where he would earn a degree in physical education and business education in 1969. While at MSU, Roebuck was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter in basketball. He also excelled in baseball, twice earning all-conference honors and being named to the NAIA District 12 team once. In the fall of 2000, he was inducted into the Mayville State Hall of Fame.

Parise was as good as ever. The NCAA playoff career leader in goals-against average (1.00) and save percentage (.961) was brilliant for the Fighting Sioux. He turned away three shots in a 10-second span at the start of the second period.

The 1959 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament involved 4 schools in playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of NCAA Division 1. It started on March 12, 1959 to March 13, 1959. The National Championship Game was on March 15, 1959. A total of 4 games were played at Houston Field House in Troy, New York. Also, North Dakota won their first national championship over Michigan State.

North Dakota has won seven NCAA Frozen Four championships (1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000). The Fighting Sioux are making their 15th Frozen Four appearance overall since 1958 and are in their 20 national tournament appearance.

UND's fifth-highest scorer with 1,834 points, Boese is ranked third all-time in career games played (130), three-point percentage (.443), and rebounds (955), fourth in career field goals made (688), and fifth in career steals (217) and single-season rebounds (294). She set a new UND record during the 2004-05 season when she shot 50 percent (46-for-92) from the three-point line, including a 13-for-13 (1.000) showing during the 73-56 season opening win over Northwest Missouri State on Nov. 15, 2004.

Elizabeth "Betty" Stocker was born Jan. 1, 1933, in the East Grand Forks, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Mary Stocker. Betty married Ralph Engelstad in 1954 and together they had one daughter, Kris Engelstad McGarry. Keeping with her late husband's generous financial contributions, Betty has emerged as a philanthropist in her own right, gifting to various charitable organizations.

As the newest addition to the Ralph Engelstad Arena complex, the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center is a lasting tribute to Betty Engelstad and the ongoing support and shared vision of the University of North Dakota and the Engelstad family.

Betty continues to reside in Las Vegas, Nev., near her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren.

She instructed thousands of students and gave countless lectures and demonstrations throughout the state and nation. She won numerous state and national awards. Her artistic accomplishments were many, and her work is among the most sought after of the North Dakota potters.
