Probably would help if I would post the link..... http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/24/news/compa...sion=2008062512 The Senate Ethics Committee is looking into charges that top lawmakers including Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn. and Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D. got deals on their mortgages through a program for friends of Countrywide CEO and co-founder Angelo Mozilo. ScottM
Here's Conrad's self-serving letter to The Wall Street Journal. I know a lot of people in banking and financial services, but I doubt I could call the CEO of Citi to get better rates/terms on my mortgage. Stromer
So is the problem that he may have got special favors or is it the fact that it is a confict of interest with his position as chair of the Senate Budget Committee at a time when Countrywide is getting helped out? I can see where the conflict of interest may be an issue but the simple fact that he may have got special favors is nothing to write about. Happens to all people with name recognition. I think that is the biggest problem. I think it is going to come back to haunt him.
