  1. Jade Lawrence is a player, and the type of kid Bubba needs more of. Tough hard nose football player. Get him in the program and worry about position later. RB, FB, S, or LB.

Heck ya. How big is he......I didn't see a height and weight or 40 time or anything.

  2. 30 per year is an NCAA limit for FCS schools. I believe it's to eliminate over signing and discourage running players off.

And it is still 2014, so bring in 2 now, and 30 for next season. I believe that is the plan.

  3. Yup. I think Bubba had said 30 total is the max.

I guess Hannible and Sleight didn't count because they never were on the team and those spots are available now. So we have 32 spots open and given the complexity of our defense at the safety position, we would like a transfer now that can begin learning the calls and get a spring ball under his belt.

  4. I am not going to lose sleep over it. It is almost a complement in that our defense is 11 guys at a time doing their job as 1 unit. But, let's be sure to remind the coaches next fall that the BSC doesn't think much of UND.

  5. What about Flowers? Does he count? And remember how many secondary players were true FR this year. We can't afford use 1/3 of our recruiting class on the secondary. We have too many other needs.

Jury is still out on Flowers. To your point, we do need to balance out the numbers based on 'needs'. Do transfers this winter count for the total number of players next fall?

  6. 10?

With nickel and dime packages and a few injuries we will need to be 8 deep in the secondary to be solid all season. We are 3-4 deep with Reyes being the only stud? We lost 2 starters, so if we bring in 10, 2-3 of those don't pan out and 2-3 on the current roster are buried on the depth chart, maybe quit, the net net net 10 number isn't unreasonable.

  7. Through Week 13    2014             2013

    Passing Offense:  110th 137.9    16th  284.1

    Rushing Offense: 103rd  116.4    117th 81.0

    Scoring Offense: 109th 15.9        76th 23.8

    Passing Defense: 99th 251.9      90th  239.8

    Rushing Defense: 5th 102.5        79th 186.7

    Scoring Defense: 58th 26.2      100th 33.7

    Attendance:  2014:  7486      2013:  8357

I think we will see about 10 defensive backs added through jucu, fbs drop downs, and high school kids, and see who pans out on the roster. This is a passing league........ I guess the silver lining with some of the pass yardage is we can improve on ball skills and mental mistakes and that will go a long ways with the current guys we have.

  8. Fordhams QB is already out. I don't know if he is ever coming back but he has been out for a few weeks.

NDSU just lost one player to season ending injury.  Look for a front page article pointing to the severity of the situation and how the team is going to have to rally during this devastating time.   :silly:

Good to know-   Sacred Heart - 3  NDSU - 42 in Frisco.

  9. http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/football/fcs

Looking at the bracket, NDSU's toughest test to get back to Frisco will be their first game (SDSU or Montana State). I don't see Coastal (or Richmond / Morgan ) as more than a speed bump on the way to the semis.

I don't see much in the #3 portion either. The most dangerous team to NDSU in that section is Sam Houston (and the revenge factor).

    UNH should make the semis.

And I hereby declare the #4 portion of the bracket "the bracket of doom": Montana, EWU, Illinois State, and UNI. Ouch.

Couldn't agree more........the 3 teams I wanted to see against NDSU were EWU, Illinois State, and UNI.(Those are the teams that could beat the Bison)  So, what will  end up happening is these teams in "the bracket of doom" beat the crap out of each other and a crappy team like Fordham makes a run and probably looses their starting QB in the process but makes it to the championship game.  Meanwhile 3 teams lay down for the Bison, at home of course,(like the Jacks always do) and they kick the crap out of a crippled Fordham team for another title.  Sound about right?

  10. Would have been nice had Mollberg and Bartels had someone last year to learn from. I think Mollberg and Bartels are capable with a supporting cast, and continued success running the fb. I think jury is out as to whether either can carry the team, but I

think both can be very good when given capable receivers and time to throw. I agree Studsrud will need to develop. I don't see him ahead of either of these guys when both are healthy. Would be nice if we can get a redshirt year from him next year.

Our top 3 QBs will be competing hard for the starting job and it will make them better players. They will all be given a shot and we might not know who the 'starter' is until a week before opener. May the best man win, that's my position.

  11. I assume Francis will start for the next 4 years at center. Stockwell looked really good against NAU. Miller has looked good very strong when he's gotten in. Haven't seen Bell play, he was highly touted. Meehan has improved a lot. Anderson is rock solid. We shall see how Cox develops, he has a nice frame though. The recruits that are committed now all look beyond solid. I want them all to redshirt but if anyone is ready, they should play.

We could have a line that looks like this: Stockwell Anderson Francis Miller Meehan

Talented enough to start next year where we left off this year?

Boas would be a solid insurance policy at center or guards?

    Thanks for the feedback-

  12. I think Knaupf has done the best job of any coach on staff, that is saying a lot. His group has evolved, also snap issues were resolved. I absolutely can't wait to see what our OL looks like not only next year but in two to three years.

I want a lot for football christmas but I think, right now, what I want more is playmakers. Short tall fast big. We need it all.

Linebacker play this year was pretty darn good, helps that Schmitty played that position. Luke did well in developing the O-line but overall I say Schmitty did the best this year with his position group. But a good argument to have, 'best coach'. We have a lot of LB talent back next year and should be stacked. Bubba knows secondary play and Marty must be a pretty good coach too, you saw that with Baylee Car's play this year compared to previous years. So if Carter and another young guy or two steps up in the secondary we should be improved next year in secondary, too. We need some beef and player development on the D-line with our younger guys. I think d-line is the wild card next year on how good the D could be.

On offense.......we have 3 QBs with starting experience. I don't know what is going to shake out but QB play should be better next year. O-line seems to be headed in the right direction but I don't know the losses or what we have on the roster to fill in....does anyone have a read on the O-line for next year??

We need a top notch WR badly to stretch the field. Need an effective stable of RBs, not sure we have that on our roster.

I would give a bonus to coaches at Bubba's discretion. Looking forward to recruiting, signing day, and pounding some beers with the coaches.

  13. John Santiago is one of 10 finalists for Minnesota's "Mr. Football."

Does anyone know if he runs track??  He looks like a track runner and point being he could shave another 10th off his forty and be a viable 3rd down back or slot WR option next year.

  14. I think UNC and UND are going to be in two different states of mind on Saturday.  North Dakota's fans, and more importantly its players, are still excited about the future under Coach Schwiegert.  Even though it is the last game of 3rd consecutive losing season, the team is going to be hungry to improve and get another win for Bubba and enter the off season on a note of positivity.  They are going to be intense, and will be playing with the same energy in this last game as they did in the first game.

I think Northern Colorado is where we were at last year.  Their fans seem to have turned against their coach.  Their players are probably not greatly motivated.  They are in the midst of their 11th consecutive losing season.  I bet their fan base and their team just wants this season to be over.

Having said that, they have also beaten Northern Arizona this year.  Just two weeks ago we were embarrassed by Weber St. and we are 0-5 on the road.

This game is going to have an in-your-face old fashioned NCC feel to it.

Remember the last game in Greeley when the refs let UNC play with 12 guys against us to seal their victory?

The forecast is for sunny and 54 degrees.  So for anybody who is going, bring your nose plugs.  Weather like that will bring out Greeley's  aromatic attributes in full force..........

They have a meat packing plant and we are hungry for a win, advantage us.  I too am concerned about our team playing, or lack of playing, on the road.

UNC runs multiple sets including spread, has a mobile QB, and a few talented WRs, none of which translates well for us.  But, their O-line is suspect (kinda like the Griz)  So, expect our D-line to be active and for the LBs to be making plays.  Expect Schmitty to really attack, sack city here we come.  If our DBs turn around on third and long we should be fine.

Offensively I think we'll do OK.  For 1, Rudolph gets to build off of last weeks successes.  2, we don't really have to worry about protecting our QB for the rest of the season, so I expect Studsrud to be active in the run game.

    All things considered:

    UND - 23

    UNC - 20

  15. my question was why didn't we run it down to 3-4 seconds before the kick so no kickoff. Maybe with a more experienced qb the coaches would have more comfortable running it down farther.

Sorry, you just said that. My bad.
