  1. So far, so good seems to sum up our recruiting season.

If there was one surprise at signing day, what position and or name would you like to see?

I am going to go with a linebacker surprise......don't know the name.

Would like a d-line surprise but haven't heard anything on that 'front'.

  2. Not sure if recruits are gonna be announced personally. They will be showing highlights for sure.

Told my son to attend away. Take it all in. Enjoy it.

Told him to get out there and meet the fan base. You guys are really passionate about your team.

    That is a good thing!!!!

I'm pumped up, ready to go.  Look for a 6'5" 300lber, then?

  3. So people are thinking the quieter the better?

For current commits the quieter the better-

Maybe a few big targets still out there.......for a February surprise, as homer eluded to.

If we sign all our current commits plus with the guys already with the team, might have crushed it.

  4. I watched him play twice last year.  He was a horse in HS.

Does he run track? He is a few steps away from being impressive.

Anyway.......crickets are chirping, which is better than a bunch of news losing commits.

The last couple targets are top secret I guess-

  5. I don't have to prove my credibility to anyone as I know who I talked to. If this is the kind of treatment I get for giving info then I will refrain from doing so in the future. I certainly know where it isn't appreciated.

I think the point is to have your own filter on information......

Hawley is the town where you crack your 1st beer on the way to the lakes, before kids anyways.

  6. Back to this Alm fellow from Hawley: Is this the DL that folks were looking for to help round out this class? He seems to be more of a "future" guy in that he seems to have the NG body-type but needs to develop into it. Wasn't there a guy from GF about a decade ago that was similar who worked out pretty well?

He will redshirt, not ready to play this fall.  The hope is a transfer to help this year on D-line.

  7. SFI posted a DL from Hawley committed. I think this is new. 6'3" - 250. I'll call Verizon to see if we can find out who has called/texted him and who hasn't that's what matters here. Not that a young man made a large decision to work his butt off for 4/5 years, so I can be entertained on Saturdays.

    The unsung Nugget-

Put a redshirt on him and see what happens with getting bigger, stronger, faster.

  8. I have deleted it because of signing day, but it remains interesting. I would consider it a positive that players are keeping things with in the locker room. just thought maybe some other people may have heard similar things as I saw it come out of no where. I won't apologize for posting it however

Not everyone can handle a new set of rules and a new direction, in which every coach and player is held to the same standard.  Those accustomed to special treatment and their own self interest will squeak, but this staff won't allow that person to get the grease.  Disappointing speculative post........  Every source I have says things are really really good with a little discussion point on individualizing position/player workouts based on needed areas of improvement, and that's something the staff isn't blind to, and players will always speculate about.

  9. I assume we have a hand full left assuming everyone who has committed, signs next Wednesday.

I think MLB and DL will be a couple positions we see some late commitments along with possibly the CB from IL (hopefully).

We will take a corner if he could step in day 1.  Other than that the talent in the secondary is improved and has some size and depth.  We could have a Harris, Hilton, Reyes, Johnson secondary, all 6'2" or 6'3".  We have some other guys, too, Carter(s) and Brown, Flowers has 3 years eligibility.......

Inside backer - we need a guy or two, let's hope for a pleasant surprise.....I am sure the coaches are working on it.

D-Line......We need a dominate run stopper in the middle and I don't think we have one on the roster.  Greer should help, but it's tough for a true freshman to be dominate in the middle.  Last year we had 2 freshman on the outside.....a little light but I've heard they are adding some weight and will be improved.

Overall I agree with the positions of need.

  10. These kids are down to earth, want to win, want to play.  The one twin carried Davies last night in hockey over South with 2 goals.  I think the PWO verbal with UND is pretty solid.

  11. My source down in Davies told me that NDSU is going after the Hartness boys now.  Been in school a couple times and are trying to get them to flip.  Nice of NDSU to start recruiting the kids on January 25th, really shows you want them.    ???

We officially got a walk-on battle royale.

We will have troops in the ring tonight in Fargo---  I have a front row view.  The Davies coach is a former UND WR, if that helps or not.

There is a scholarship battle with another recruit, coaches made a special trip to his house across a couple state lines.

This last week is a tough one, batten down the hatches!!

  12. Good for you...  4 of the ND kids that NDSU targeted were Johanasson, Brooks, Robbins & Grady.  WIth 30 scholarships to hand out 2 straight years hard to compete with that amount of money for some kids.  Ellefson is the real deal and has an offer from Purdue.  A lot of our class have FBS offers so our class is shaping up just fine.  As far as PWO no FCS team develops them as well as NDSU.

Were does Ellefson play?  4.85 forty and not overly strong.....maybe redshirt and work on his speed/strength for TE?  My dad is from Hawley so he's taking an interest to Ellefson.  The guy I think is scary for SU is the WR from the private school in MN......I forget what private school.

  13. Ben Ellefson was dominating class A competition........I think he has a lot to prove/learn given the talent level SU has. If he was dominating class 4A or 5A that would be different. Just saying.

  14. Same applies DL

I think DL is a little more critical than ILB, we could use another big body up front on D. LBs are a little bit interchangeable, but it doesn't matter how good they are if the front 3 don't hold up. Our biggest concerns next year are QB play and the D-line holding up.

Oliviara and Santiago play right away and 2-3 secondary guys won't redshirt. (Smith, Carter, Hilton). Watch out, the secondary could be pretty good next year, with depth.

  15. I'm not giving up on Sharp yet. He's young. He needs to learn patience and get stronger. He shows good burst and feet. He just needs time.

Going into his Sophomore year........this would be a good time for 10lbs of muscle before fall.

  16. It seems to me that Oliveira can probably do everything Norberg can do in terms of physical running, and he also adds more elusiveness and probably more speed.

Yep, but knowing the offense and picking up the blitz and other nuances may take a few games for Oliveira. Norberg has game experience and spring ball which will give the coaches a certain comfort level.

  17. So who all do we have at RB right now Arrington, Simmons (if he is cleared to played), Oliveira ... who am I missing? And who would be projected to get the heaviest load?

As it sits right now I expect Arrington to get 65-70% of the carries to start the year. Norberg and Oliveira to split the rest with a splash of Santiago and Georges. As the season goes on Oliveira will get more carries and if Arrington and Oliveira stay healthy they split carries evenly or coaches give a few more carries to the hot back on a per game basis. I think Norberg could he used as a fullback type if not needed at RB. I would love to see Simmons and Sharp in the mix but I am counting Simmons out with injury and Sharp as too average to play.

  18. Bubba and Bohl need to make a gentleman's agreement in that 1) Wyoming grants the release 2) Bubba doesn't travel him against Wyoming. Problem solved. For a guy like Bohl, who makes a living, really good living, off of college athletes, to robb a kid of his junior year is classless. I am really questioning Bohl as a man........

  19. Anyone know if Simmons applied for or is able to receive a medical hardship for last year? Only played in a game & a half.  Was injured in 2nd qtr of R. Morris game.

He did apply, he has a good case, but might be a moot point.

  20. You're correct.  Once the clock starts they have 5 years to use up to 4 years of eligibility.  I believe that there is an exemption for religious mission trips such as the 1 1/2 to 2 year trips that Mormons often take while in college, and for service in the military.

Thanks to all for the info. on eligibility.

About Simmons........he could be done, Drs. won't clear him to play, last I heard.

  21. SFI is saying Georges will be a junior, so he may only have two years left.

Could be.....it said he redshirted in 2012, played in 1013, and last year wasn't in a program, though.  I am not sure-

  22. Information overload.  What is missing is the eligibility-

    Georges - 3 years eligibility

    Neverman - 2 years eligibility

    Johnson - 2 years eligibility

Knick - must burn a year and then have 3 years eligibility

Galkoski - has a redshirt to take and then 2 years eligibility

    Anyone know different??
