  1. Other NCHC scores: Denver 4 - Western Michigan 2 - Final UM Duluth 5 - Miami 4 - 16:51 3rd Colorado College 0 - Nebraska Omaha 3 - First Intermission
  2. I stand corrected on the Minnesota part, although it is irrelevant to the diversion issue because I know that Dayton, and a few other area MN state lawmakers have said that they will not provide funding. MN never said they would fund their share, that is just something that the Diversion Authority expects them to do. However, I do not see how any person can say that the federal government isn't in a tough financial position? Our national debt is over 70% of our GDP, and while some people are jumping up and down celebrating the shrinking budget deficit, it was still over half a trillion dollars last year.
  3. I hope they can move it. It's such a cool building, but I think the location it is located at could be put to better use. I don't know what they would use the house for, but hopefully they can think of something
  4. I imagine that the vacating of Chandler Hall makes room for the (much needed) expansion and renovation of Gamble Hall (business school), which is right next door. This would be a major upgrade for UND as Chandler is an absolute eye sore, and Gamble is in a very prominent spot in campus that is very visible. Has anyone heard anything about the university's intention for the old presidents house? The alumni association (I think) was working out of there, but moved to the new Gorecki Alumni Center, and the old presidents house is now unoccupied.
  5. UND in the FBS would be cool, but I don't see how either ND school could feasibly make the transition... Currently, UND's athletic department spends $200k a year more than it takes in, and that's after it gets a $9 million subsidy from the state (half of it's entire revenue comes from a state subsidy). To go FBS would require a new stadium, or a major expansion to the Alerus Center, which was filled to about 15% capacity the last time UND played a football game there so that would be a very tough sales pitch to make. Financially, NDSU is about in the same shape. Unless a major donor steps in to cut the check, I cannot see UND going to the FBS anytime soon because the ND Legislature would probably laugh either school out of the building if they tried to ask for another $4-5 million a year for athletics when the schools are already having to cut academic spending, and raising tuition every year. I'm a big UND fan and supporter, but I just think this proposition is so far fetched that it is not even worth talking about. I think we need to first field a competitive football team, and get our athletics department to generate a sustained profit before we even consider moving to the next level.
  6. You are both correct. He is not a fan of the diversion project as it is very costly and very damaging to areas south of Fargo, and he wanted to ensure that if it is built, funding is secured. Funding is the biggest hurdle for this project (always has been), the benefit/cost ratio for the project is quite low, and getting congress to approve $1 billion for a city that has never lost flood fight, is located in the most cash abundant state in the nation, and is currently being sued in federal court on four counts is a very tall order. The project cost will be well in excess of $2 billion dollars when all said and done, and Carlson has a legitimate concern over funding because the Diversion Authority cannot wait to get started on this project, and have publicly stated that they will start the project without full funding. The Diversion Authority has never stated where any excess funding will come from if funding for the project falls short, or if the project goes over budget (like nearly all Corps of Engineers projects do), Fargo doesnt have enough money for it unless they tack on some major property special assessments, Federal Government is broke, Minnesota is broke, that leaves the state of ND as the only viable option for excess funds, and Carlson knew that. In my opinion, the project makes little sense, Fargo is building a diversion around undeveloped land to the south that is in a floodplain and retaining water on high land that has never flooded before. Not to mention, that land that will be used to retain water on is some of the best farmland in the world.
  7. Couldn't agree more, the D-men and Gothberg stepped up big time!
  8. Fun to hear the "let's go Sioux!" chant clearly audible on TV!
  9. Denver and CC are tied at 1 halfway through the 2nd
  10. Did CBS carry a national game last night?
  11. Very impressed with Gothberg this weekend, obviously played a great game on Friday, and has played a good game tonight. I like how he calmed down and played a great game after those two quick goals.
  12. Haha! That never gets old. I know they brought a student bus down there, and you can definitely hear the UND fans on TV!
  13. Need to finish strong to stay in first though, St. Cloud beat Miami 3-0
  14. Just hoping to end this game. Starting to see some cheap shots and the refs are being terribly inconsistent with little control over the game.
  15. When was the last time UND had 3 power play goals?
  16. UND's power play seems to be much improved this weekend
  17. UND PP GOAL - Simpson. UND up 4-2, UMD switching goalies
  18. Also, is UND wearing black,or green jerseys tonight? Can't tell from the broadcast, looks good at first glimpse, but the dark colors are very hard to tell apart.
  19. Great PPKs so far! UND seems to be winning in everything except for goals.
  20. I agree. The trophy shouldn't be getting passed around to various hiding places. It should be in a museum. Even if the two teams ever do play again, the trophy would probably not be up for grabs because of the "hostile and abusive" logo on one side of it.
