I agree, this would still give players some flexibility especially if a coach leaves. They could still just sit out a year if they really wanted to leave like they use to have to do also.

Going forward we are always going to have a crappy feeling the first two weeks after our season is done. There will always be transfers out every year, and the last game of the season will have ended in a loss if we are in the playoffs, unless we win it all. Some years the crappy two week period will be better than others, but this one....yeah has been a pretty crappy feeling. Part of it is we are not used to this many players leaving right after the season, it is definitely depressing and a gut punch. Early signing period isn't too far away though right? Hopefully there will be good news there and everyone who verballed will sign. Wouldn't be surprised though if there is at least one negative surprise there, but hopefully not.

Was hoping would be some actual good news when I clicked in here.

Question, after the season do the coaches meet with each player and talk about where they are at, their role in the program going forward etc. etc.? Or is it just a big team meeting type of thing. Just wonder if some of these transfers could be mitigated with some discussion before they decide to transfer. Also, if a players puts his name in the portal do the coaches reach out to them and say......hey if you don't find what you are looking for there is still room for you here. Or once they put their name in the portal is it just kind of like.....we are done with you since you have the mindset to leave.

I agree with this. In the unlikely event we get 2-3 difference makers on the OL from the portal, that could end up netting us on the positive side of the in/outs. As much as I like, wait liked, Weah I'd take a much better OL next year without Weah than marginally better OL with Weah. Weah was a talent and fun to watch, but we have some other good backs.....as of now anyway.

Think it's pretty safe to say now that we will be on the losing side of the in/outs of the portal this off season.

And yes sure as hell hope Weah transfers to somewhere that we never see him against us. Well, or we do play him and shut him down and whatever team he is with and get some pleasure from that. Thank goodness Ziebarth was looking really good. #portalsucks

Or maybe they read this board and have seen we have the worst coaches, worst crowd support/attendance numbers, low expectations, are a hockey school, and have the worst financial support for any FCS football team and figured they better get out now before the program implodes.

I agree, it’s not so much the number of transfers it’s the quality.

With the catches Zavalney was making he was always going to be the primary passing TE while Riviere was here since they were both Sophomores.

I guess I'd be curious how many kids are transferring away from other schools like SDSU, Montana, Southern Illinois, USD etc.. Not sure if our number of transfers is high, or if this is par for the course on transfers for most schools?

Didn't hear Riviere's name called much on offense (which is maybe why is wants to transfer?), but from watching his little clip there it looks like he liked to maul defenders when he was blocking.

Sucks we don't have a warm up game before Nebraska, but hopefully they will be a little tired from there trip and be totally overlooking us. At least we get to play in the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium

Can't imagine the stress level this portal crap adds for them. Can never ever....feel comfortable with any position group ever. It could all be wiped out by a bunch of transfers on any given year for a position group. Right now it is what it is though, and we have to try and be on the positive side of it somehow by getting good transfers in. But we are going to see good, really good players transfer out now every year. Friggin sucks.

Yeah we did due to his injury. Thankfully they switched him to WR and also used him in the Brockstar, it was effective when he was healthy....and he was one of our better straight up WR's in my opinion. I was looking forward to two more years after his Sophomore season of the Brockstar, but we really got 0 more of that. He wasn't fully himself the first part of the year, and then seems like we always got a pre-snap penaltly every time they tried it the first half of the year. Would have really like to have had him as another arrow in the quiver next fall.

Boltmann isn't coming back, dang that sucks. After his sophomore year I was looking forward to watching him play two more years. Out the whole Spring 2020 and seemed to finally start getting back to his old self the last 2-3 games of the season this year. Was really hoping he would be back.

With all due respect, you just proved my point as well. But I am with you, and also hope he doesn't get a multi year extension. I could go tell you to check my post about Stig's record 8 years in. But I'm not getting into this whole thing on a weekly basis the entire off season so I can hear about how low my expectations are.

I would hope Entz seat was hot if they finished 5-6 since he took over a program that was winning a National Championship 4 out of every 5 years. Meanwhile Bubba took over a program that went 3-8 and wasn't even sniffing being the the playoff discussion. Doesn't mean I don't think Bubba needs to get some of his crap together on some of the things that happened this year, we have him for two more years that is just reality. Goofy year or not, he did just come off a MVFC conference co-title and isn't getting fired and contract buyout.

Just because some of you think they should have taken a time out, it is not an obvious coaching blunder IMO. The going for it on 4th down on our own 20.....yes, that play will live in infamy....as it should, was horrible. And you are right, we wouldn't have gotten in over UNI anyway. Still woulda liked to have gotten that win though.

Damn the portal sucks. Honestly hard to know how good the team may or may not be next year until we find out how many transfers there are. The portal could really be damaging to any team on any year....if they have a lot of people leave at the same position in the same off season. The portal could blow a huge hole in any position group on the team at any moment. This is obviously the new normal, we will just have to try and be really good at grabbing incoming guys as good or better than that are leaving each year. I bet the damn portal really stresses the hell out of coaches, you literally can't count on anything anymore. It's already stressing me out.
