I don't mind trick plays either, many of them we run have worked...many of them for scores. They keep defenses guessing etc. etc.. Although doesn't mean I wouldn't like to get a long TD run or pass with just an ordinary play now and then. Smith's long almost TD run against Nebraska was great and a breath of fresh air from having to rely on a 10 play drive to get into the red zone, hoping we can pop a few more of those. If we can start getting some big plays now and then with our regular plays........I think that just helps make the trick plays even more effective. I guess every team wants more explosive/long plays though. I am starting to wonder about if we should be putting Quincy in at QB other than for short yardage situations. I believe we had another pre-snap penalty when we put him at QB last week, seems like we get one of those every week. Quincy hasn't come in to throw a deep bomb yet.....so likely not going to happen? Who knows....maybe Danny is planning it that way so it is a big surprise when it does happen.

I think we need to play a lot cleaner than the UNI and NAU games to come out with a win. Just cleaning up the bad snaps.....as that is a 15 yard loss and loss of down and a drive killer. We got an interception by CJ returned for a TD, Pedigo big INT, a flea flicker reverse for a late win, Tommy going 20 of 23 against UNI...so almost perfect.....these games have been really close and that is with us getting a few turnovers and them missing some FG's etc.. That said, we did still find a way to win which is huge. But I'm just not sure we can have those type of mistakes etc. to come away with another road win this weekend as this game is a total must win for SIU and I think they will be jacked. I'm still looking for a conventional big play.....hoping we get it this weekend.

Last week, I don't think the corners on the opposite side of CJ really got beat for any big plays, but maybe I'm missing or forgetting something. The one really long pass I think was against CJ, and there was another semi long pass that was also along his side of the field. I did notice in the second half that it seemed like we had a safety that was leaning towards the opposite side of the field CJ was on to help out. It was such a close game though and I was too nervous just watching the game to spend as much time looking at player positioning pre-snap. But I did notice #8 playing corner pretty much the entire 4th quarter, he was definitely giving up some cushion but I don't recall any big pass plays against him. There were two TD passes that were both against safeties. I think KK actually had pretty decent coverage on the one......the QB threw it and the receiver had to turn back and fall to the inside as the ball was kind of behind him. That said I'm still a little worried about the secondary also, but I'm hoping the DB's continue to improve some each game like you said.

Some great matchups this weekend in the MVFC SDSU at Miss St - probably the game of the week for the FCS. Thinking I'd take Miss St. after last weekends games/scores. NDSU at USD - USD can be tough and a tough place to play, but the Bison will be pissed after losing UND at SIU

We need to go at least 1-1 the next two weeks, obviously 2-0 is ideal but if we lose both we are out of the polls. If we lose to SIU, but then beat what seems to be a really good Missouri State team at home, we'd be ranked again but I have no idea where, probably back up to 18-20.

I really like their stadium.

Yeah, I do actually agree with you on some things....some times. I am totally ok hearing criticism/negative comments, and even hearing them....4...5...6 times...but hearing the same basic comment the 50th time since Fall Camp just gets old. You can spare me the soft comments though coach, your comments did not hurt me at all, the repetitiveness of them just nauseate me after a while sometimes, there is a big difference between the two.

Last night I was thinking, we probably should still be ranked around #20 right now...probably no higher at this point. We won two games, but they were close...and we could have lost. I am very glad we won, but I do feel a little unsettled about some things because we do have some issues that need worked on. And honestly I don't feel great about next week's game at SIU. So honestly I have a lot of the same thoughts as you, but your attitude is just complete horses**t 99% of the time and it gets so damn old. You can't go a single week without calling us all out as loving mediocrity even after we've just won two games. I'm sure you are a blast to hang out with at parties. But oh yeah....you were a coach so you are just on another level than all of us.

So glad I didn't have to streak!! Couldn't get reception during the game so wasn't chiming in on the thread. Although I was too nervous the whole game too anyway! The drive home was so much better after a win. I was high on Smith going into the year.....but instead of lightning and thunder, I think we need thunder and lighting.....meaning I think Hoosman needs to start and then bring Smith in to offset him. Hoosman just gets positive yards somewhat like Brady O. did. Noticed #8 playing at the other corner pretty much the whole 4th quarter, he was playing off his guy and looked like he had some help over his way. It's nice going to a game in person again where you can see everyone on the field on defense all of the time.

Smith is going to bust off a long run again sometime.....I'd be ok with seeing one tomorrow!
-
Not too often we have to ask an incoming Offensive lineman to potentially lose 10 pounds

UNI plays Sacramento State this weekend, we'll see how that game goes......should have a better idea of how good they are after that. I'll be a UNI fan the rest of the season.
-
Before the season I thought this game was tough because we've struggled against them before, but I thought we would win. Then I saw they beat Sam Houston and that same weekend we gave up several big plays, started thinking it could be a L this weekend. However I think the guys are sick of hearing how we keep getting beat by these guys and we play pretty well. I am concerned about giving up some big plays, but I think the offense will play fairly well and Tommy continues to make some timely runs and we control the clock once again. Hopefully not too many penalties and no turnovers. UND 28 NAU 20
-
Who else will be at the game? That area labeled the Ponderosa is a sectioned off beer garden type of place I believe. When I went last time it wasn't very busy but there were some UND people in there and that is where I hung out before the game. That is where I will likely be going again unless I see some UND people gathered in a parking lot somewhere. Gundy you said you are going? I'll be in a Green 18 jersey.
-
Well now that Axl Rose may be getting involved....I think it will happen! Probably have specials on Night train in the bar.
-
It will all depend on if I go for more beer during halftime or not! Not sure if they serve inside.
-
Haha ok good.... because nobody will want to see that!
-
No way we lose by 21. If we do I will strip down and streak onto the field after the whistle!
-
I think our guys will be hearing it all week about never winning at NAU and they will come out fairly fired up and ready to play.
-
ASU wore these when I went to a game a few years ago and thought they looked sharp. That's why I mentioned the grey bottom and tops with white helmet.
-
Agree grey pants with the green tops were ugly. If we had grey pants and grey top that may have been ok with a white helmet, but probably wouldn't have wanted that wide stripe on the grey jersey pants. I kind of miss just having solid white pants with solid green jersey with legible white numbers.

Yeah it seems like most all of the plays that are really schemed up to succeed...are geared towards Belquist. Even that one in the first quarter against NE that Tommy threw a little high, Maag could have easily run that route. We run that throw back play a few times a year....it's one that almost always works for a nice gain, it always goes to Belquist. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but Maag can only run the routes he is given and make the catches when they throw his way.....which hasn't been very often. I still think he'll make some big plays for us this year though. Hoping Klien gets healthy soon....would be nice to see him get some reps. Sounds like Red was dinged up going into the UNI game but played through it, hopefully he is pretty close back to 100% this week.
-
Agree, worst numbers I've ever seen. They look good up close, but on the field it's impossible to tell who is who. Whoever the rep is at the company.....should pony up for us to swap out those numbers.
-
That would look good. I'd still prefer white helmet though if we were going to do something.
