Because that conversation has been said over & over - Try starting your own thread & see how much interest & support it gets - I promise not to post on it or read it anymore There is still Hope & I will never lose that Hope as long as we still have a chance http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090405111238AAQw23U

& as I have said before the amount of Names (cities states etc.) that are Native American in this country - makes any college that won't play us for that reason look like ignorant fools & hippocrates
-
The divide & wounds will not heal if the NCAA does not re-examine this - why would they want this when they know how important it is not only to UND & Grand Forks but North Dakota You pro name droppers for the sake of D1 - go start your own thread & have your minority Fun Another possibility is change to Spirit Lake Sioux - The people I meet - see & talk to here that are Sioux - the vast majority wear Sioux Gear & support the name - again it was wrong & a mistake to have settled for both Tribes to OK the name Standing Rock is too far away & mostly in SD - That & their Council is holding their people hostage
-
& now this http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/206310/ time to hope Engelstad Arena Folks brings in a AHL team & calls it the Fighting Sioux & then use the Ralph for what Ralph wanted - Long Live the Fighting Sioux Then D1 sports at UND can muddle along Sports (especially D1) will never be the same in GF if the name is gone & you can thank the NCAA

they hope to do their deceitfulness when were not looking

Why would someone want to "spend time & energy" on this - Still - when it's been removed from his responsiblity ?

http://www.timesunion.com/news/article/ND-chancellor-Goetz-retiring-in-August-2012-1417907.php Two years before Goetz became chancellor, the NCAA declared the name and logo hostile to American Indians. The Board of Higher Education eventually ordered the name and logo retired, only to be reversed by the North Dakota Legislature, which approved a bill this year requiring UND to keep both. "The amount of time and energy and thought that has gone into this has been overwhelming, and has taken away from other issues that more time should be spent on," Goetz said. "I hope that steps are going to be taken where we can be expeditious about this, and get it taken care of."

their loss & racism hidden behind PCness ...?

Boy ! I sure got the last word on this one

Yes he is & I wish he could get back in my positive column - but he is responsible for a lot of the 1st settlement = Two tribes = Spirit Lake should have been enough - I still wonder if he mentioned that SR had given prior approval ? He is lucky the Dems are so out of touch with voters & have such lousy candidates (that he got re-elected last time)
-
I hope he heads to the locker room & the state board sticks to how well they manage our university's other than Athletics maybe where the University Jets should take them next, or maybe weather they should have jets at all Or how to hire Presidents - who understand ND & proper use of funds
-
Without the Law it was over - it gave us hope that a better settlement could be reached because Spirit Lake said yes & SR was not allowed to vote & SR had already gave approval - all things that were not known & part of, or brought up the 1st time. Plus it is just the right thing to do - the ncaa was wrong from the get-go - too many had just given up & they were wrong to do so - Thank God the Legislature had the courage to save the name & no matter what happens next - in the end the people of ND will get to vote on the final outcome

Referendum will show what Sioux County / Standing Rock thinks. "The racial makeup of the county was 84.59% Native American, "

this lady can sing - great song
-
It's still a ace in the hole - I hope the sbohe keeps their noses out of it - they can play politics later after the name is retained - I bet the AG is smart enough to wish the same.... politically
-
I agree a Statewide Referendum is still a possibility & will happen to help prove to the ncaa that we have aproval
-
Yeah they are not just taking on a few egg headed PC do gooders - it is now the States to fight & a State with Resources

Isn't Google Wonderful http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS358US358&q=How+many+cities+%26+states+have+native+american+names

With a possible consitutional challenge - I'm serious - how far Fetched (no pun) is it that schools could not play us because of the name Sioux or we can be sanctioned or even have increased sanctions - but couldn't the ncaa or other schools say the same thing about playing the (any name) University of North Dakota or South Dakota or North Dakota State University, because of the Dakota in our name Dakota isn't much different than Lakota or Nakota -- it was the chosen name of some branches of Sioux So if any school has anything that says Dakota in it's name - it could be held to the same type of sanctions by the ncaa - plus countless other Native names that are part of the names of so many places I wish this could some how end up going all the way to the Supreme Court Maybe if it's not just UND who is getting picked on (enter other legal word) by PC bullies - things would change
-
So if worse came to worse & say we changed our name to Fighting Dakota & the ncaa decided that was not ok - does that mean all North & South Dakota schools would be breaking the ncaa's stupid rules I only bring this up to show the absurdity of the ncaa's thinking & how they are insulting two States proud names
