A DU player (Magnus Chrona, I think) was interviewed after the game and was asked about the experience of playing at Ball Arena. His response included, “It’s better than North Dakota.”

It seemed like a really weird thing to say.

Yes, odd to say, but in reality a compliment.

Wow, Duluth with a 3-0 lead on SCSU after one period.  Going for the sweep...if they do that, they'll move up the PWR in a big way...they already moved up 9 spots after yesterday's win and are now only a couple spots behind UND.

That'll also make it a little more difficult in the NCHC standings for UND...they need to pass UMD.

But maybe go up one in the Pairwise for the win vs Duluth last Friday?

They announced two minutes for roughing... but those are the exact types of calls you need to come down hard on in the first period if you don't want an ending like last night. Zero reason for that much aggression less than five minutes in.

I hear ya but it’s only 5  min if it’s UND.

Regardless of the antics, I'd like to see Miami of Ohio leave the NCHC asap. The program doesn't belong/deserve to be in the NCHC conference imho.

If I were Red Savage too, I'd enter the transfer portal at the end of the year. Program is a joke....

Yup. And bring Purple Mavs in. Much better stronger program.

After what happened at the end, if UND comes out soft and uninspired tomorrow, then I would say there isn’t a lot to look forward to the rest of the year.  Take control from the opening faceoff and leave no doubt!

    Don’t hold your breath.

Selection Committee Chair (who it is ok to despise) said in an interview that an FBS game does not hurt a team's profile.

I would tend to agree with that although no doubt a win can sure help.

Hoping that TH is okay.  Guy is one of the best you will ever hear.  I remember him missing that game in 2011 that will forever live in the lore of UND hockey as "The Michigan Game".

Oh, gag. Was in attendance at Xcel. That game still eats at me.  Outshot Much like 40-20 and hit 2 or 3 pipes.  UND has just one natty in last 22 or so seasons. It should be double that.  They were the best team that season but one and done playoff format does not always bear that out.  That season an okay but certainly nothing special Duluth team finally won their first natty.

On a more serious note for someone much smarter than me what is the probability* of qualifying for the NCAA tournament via the Pairwise as of today?

*a snowballs chance in h#%& isn't the answer I am looking for.

    Playoffs? Playoffs?  You’re talking playoffs?!

I'll watch to the end, because of this.  A while ago when the team was struggling in the second half, a former player said to a mutual friend that he thought they'd be ok, and his reason was that he knew how good the coaches were.  Despite the derision heaped upon them lately, they've demonstrated as recently as last year that they are in fact very good coaches, and perhaps unlike many here, I don't think they've tragically forgotten how to coach.  So I'll continue to hope they manage to convince everyone to back check like they did a year ago and go on a little late run.  I'm certain no one will give up.

So if it’s not the coaching then does that it’s poor recruiting?

WTH?  I’m not sure it’s even a 2 minute penalty assuming I watched the correct hit/play iin question?   It literally looked like the player on the receiving end ran into the elbow. Must be a drama major.

It was easy to see early in the season this Vikings team wasn't a true contender with the defense and Donatell. It was severely flawed in a few areas but really didn't try to alter things in season and let the wins cover up the deficiencies.
13 wins and a NFC North Championship is absolutely a overachievement when looking at this team for me. I did think they could sneak by the Giants but it was ending in San Francisco next week barring a series of miracles. This loss isn't really surprising and really doesn't even hurt that much.
Gotta imagine a ton of changes both in personnel and staff. Some long tenured guys that we could've seen the last of in a Viking jersey today unless they redo their contracts Hunter, Kendricks, H. Smith, Peterson, Thielen, Cook.
Man that schedule next year Chargers, Chiefs, Niners, @ Eagles, @ Bengals.

Yoy, you nailed it.  With  that schedule  and their putrid defense I foresee a 4-6 win season unless defense makes a big turn-around (it was supposed to this season…).

    Last year was rock bottom.

This year... could it be the year of the comeback?

I wish it was but in in retrospect, looking at your comment (3 months ago), it certainly isn’t.  It’s still getting worse IMO. Other than football being competitive (aim high, had another one and done playoff appearance) and same for women’s hoops (goal is to finish 3rd or 4th in conference play, the program still lags way behind the two SD teams), sports at UND is in shambles.  The crown jewel, hockey, under Berry’s tenure has now returned to the early 90s and early/mid 70s.  Volleyball started on the upswing following another disastrous season but had a lengthy losing streak to finish out the season), while soccer and softball both continued to sit at or near the bottom in conference play. Sigh, how long ago the 2016-17 (?) sports season seems now.

They will, if they can avoid the injury bug.

The Summit is only going to get 1 team this year.

Yup.  Just like last season too but one could very well argue SDSU should have made NCAA along with USD.  Actually, I think SDSU last season was a better 2nd place team (conference) than USD is this season
