I recall in 2nd period what I thought was a sure goal from Gaber from right in close that I thought UMD goalie made a great save. Maybe that was Blake?

Yup (for what it’s worth).  Saw hilite video and at 11:14 mark in 2nd period Gaber clearly had a SOG from right in front where Duluth goalie made a nice save.  Not sure how they missed that.

Danny was a senior I believe the last time we won in Vermilion in 2008. 34-31 OT win. 15 years later why not again?

Our offense is good enuff  to win I think.  It all really depends on if our home defense (throw out our defensive melt down in 4th qtr at home vs lowly Ind St 2 weeks ago) or usual road defense shows up whether we have a chance or not.

Final box score credits him with 0 shots on goal.   It's been a while since that happened.

Sorry about your boys, gfhockey.  ;)
I'm guessing UMD will come out stronger tomorrow, they got better as the game went on, but UND still controlled play for the most part...just couldn't put the dagger in until less than a minute left.

Hard to place to sweep, but hopefully the guys finish more of their chances tomorrow.

Need to sweep on the road vs Duluth tomorrow to make up for not getting the sweep at home vs Mankato.

Time for Gaber or Blake to make something happen.

Agree.  Both should have had goals inn2nd period.  Up 3-1 and I’m maybe a bit paranoid but a bit concerned that since the 3rd goal we’ve had several good chances but can’t finish/bury one.  Most important, stay out of the effin box!

Do they consider them quality losses regardless of the score of those games?   Of course everyone has been blown out by SDSU, but what will the UNI game do to the equation?

I hear ya. IMO that was not a quality loss regardless how it’s defined.  The  UNI game was a bad loss (cus it was a blowout vs a decent but not great team) vice being a quality (close) loss.

Problem with that in 2023 is with parity you can't afford to get off to a really slow start and hope a run in January and February will get you in.

Case in point… just last season.

A win is a win, but it doesn't inspire all that much confidence going forward.

Despite going 2-1, the last 3 weeks inspire very little confidence.

It’s early in the season, yes. But the same three headed monster continues to surface, just like it has  over last couple of seasons…..even strength scoring and untimely penalties.  UND has been very subpar in these areas. I’ve said before, the forwards don’t score on a regular basis 5x5 and it needs to change or close games will continue to go other way. At some point something has to give.

I have said many times to a few, if UND is above .500 after 10 games, I would be surprised and happy. Will this team make the NCAA tourney, yes, but the swagger is not quite there yet for this team to be elite. The first 10 games will tell a lot, I like this group.

Lots to be excited about, locker room  leadership  much better than last year, but certainly a ways to go……

If UND loses tonight basically a .500 team season to date (albeit 5 games played vs top 10 ranked teams).  Gotta figure out the power play.

Ohhh....but he hit a home run last night so that buys him a month right?

You nailed it. Other than his career year 3 or 4 seasons ago, he now basically hits like a dozen dingers and a .225 average each season. Okay numbers in this day and age for a real slick fielding middle infielder but not for a RF.

I came here to say this.

Yup, been saying it myself for a few years now. He had one career year (redundant I guess) approx 4 years ago but now not much power while hitting at a low average.

Starting pitching has been really good.  Lineup still finding itself.

I'd say a 2nd or 3rd place finish in the Central seems like a fair guesstimate.

I really think they have as good a chance chance as anybody (most notably the White Sox and also Cleveland) to win AL Central IF their starting pitching is for the most part healthy. KC and Detroit are non-factors.
