Wasn't that so called 'brawl' near the end of the Goofers - Wisco game typical of U of Minnie? I'm not so sure in this so called "brawl" I saw one glove dropped by a Goofer to square up with someone (or by Wisco too for that matter)? It looked more like Dirty Dancing or rasslin'. Yah, a lot of poo-pah but really in the end o lot of nothing (not that I condone fighting in hockey).

I'm not out to fire Jones necessarily although he's certainly not winning many friends. One observation though (I normally sit approx 10 rows behind the Sioux bench); I think as a player he would not be much fun to play for or to be around. Should players and coach be best beer buds, certainly not, but he appears to be very negative coaching the players with no real encouragement of a positive nature. I caught some of the Neb - Wisco game the other night and Tim Miles is very positive and encouraging with his players (stern when he has to be though) and interacting in a mentor/student type manner with his players. Neb made the NCAA tourney for the first time in 16 years last season year so he might be doing something right? On the other hand, Jones just seems at odds and mostly always pissy with his players and not a fun guy to be around at all. Not sure what it all really means, the result of it but just saying.

Despite being very young and their terrible record, the Badgers now have only 1 loss in their last 4 games. Something to build on for them I guess. Doesn't say much for Little 6 Hockey though I guess.

Why the need to start Cam? Ride the pony, Zane. The Vikes don't start AP (uh, unless he's suspended for beating his kid) or the Packers (gag) don't start their backup QB in place of Rodgers just to get some experience in case they have to play later on due to injury. Doesn't make sense. Yah, put him in the game late (e.g. start 3rd period) if game is out of hand just in case your starter might get injured in a meaningless time of the game. Do not start Cam tomorrow night.

Rough Riders, Badlands, Flyers, Arrows, Chill, Freeze, Renegades, Predators, Ducks, Honkers, and Skunk Bears (another name for Wolverine). Bash 'em all if you like but I'm like the other guy, just pick one and move on. Nothing will equal Fighting Sioux so no matter what name is chosen it will have its many critics, no doubt.

I agree, Yeo doesn't play on the ice and has poor to average goal scorers, a shaky def now (that used to be one bright spot even when they struggled to score last season), and poor goal tending. Is that his fault? Will a new coach change that? Doubt it but gotta do something to shake this team up. Hell, they're almost as disappointing as the Goofers this season.
-
Spot on point you make. Jones keeps complaining they need to rebound better but he's the one who recruited this team and is going with a 3 guard line-up oftentimes. Hello? Yes, there can be good rebounding guards, but on average your forwards and centers get the most rebounds based upon more height and positioning nearer the basket.

v Yes, and FCS/Div 1-AA football is a non-event to the average college football rube nation-wide. And that's not to belittle NDSU's 4 straight lower tier title wins, it's just a fact. So, same-same I guess.
-
What about Skunk Bears? Yeah, different but not the norm and kind of fun. It's another name for a wolverine, which are known as real tough SOBs who'll fight anybody and anything and known to take down critters much larger than itself (Bison, Bulldogs, Huskies, Grizzlies, Bobcats, Mavericks,...?).

stoneySIOUX--Agree, gotta get the W's (yes, most important thing) but a couple of 3-2 wins at home vs a bad team would probably hurt the Sioux come next Monday in ref to ranking/PW. If all the rankings/PW take into account are W's regardless of score & where played (I kind of doubt that though), then I stand corrected.

I don't need tkts to this UND85 (me too!) but if no stick salute Sat night then fire Hak!
-
If the Sioux even struggle to win (let alone just win) like they did against AF, Bem on the road, and game 1 (the big comeback) vs Lake Superior, then not good.

Man, the reading of this thread btwn UND and NDSU. Let's put it to rest; how many top level titles (D1A) has UND won vs number of top level titles won by NDSU? Reminder, I'm not counting lower tier level titles such as D2 and D1-AA/FCS. Believe UND is at 7 top level titles and NDSU is at how many? Is it even one or at zero despite the Bison having been at D1 top level now for all sports (save for one sport) for 5 years longer than UND.

Man, surprised me UMD got so chippy tonight when the started losing/knowing the game was out of reach. Reminds me of another Minnie team. Sioux were down and out last night with maybe 7-8 min left in game but it didn't get chippy, they handled it like men. The Dawgs are down by 3 late tonight and they just want to get cheap and scrap. Not good losers I guess.
-
Agree with you tnt, no way a sucker punch. You engage (which the cheap dawg and Pattyn were doing) then be ready to tangle. Walk the walk.
-
Agree, big game for NCHC purposes but I believe more so strictly from a confidence and yard stick perspective vs where they sit mathematically in the conf race.

Snake's comment (post #160) nailed it. I think we sorely lack high-end offensive talent anymore compared to what we had 3-4 years ago and all the way back much longer. Our high end offensive talent are Cags and Parks and I think at best on the 2010-11 team Or most teams in the 2000's so far) they would have been 2nd line, same with McWilliams (3rd line?). We have great goal tender and a skilled def corps but offensively we are middle of the pack at best in the NCHC. Duluth's puck possession and movement clearly superior to ours tonight and I ain't very optimistic it gets much better for the Sioux Sat night. It needs to, along with a little better puck luck, to have a shot at winning. The Shep ref, I swear he has it in for UND/it's personal for him.

Biddco--Lots of places will bus you to/fro the game. Also included are BWW, El Rocco, Southgate, Knights of Columbus, and Rumor (I think?). Best way to travel for games at REA. I think this series will be a split but if the Sioux are as good as rated (#2), they need to dig deep and play two real solid games and sweep a real good team at home (I don 't think that's happened yet?).

Arrows is beginning to sound good to me. It surely can't offend anyone (as earlier post said, NA's don't own it) and, most importantly, arrows take down/wipe out Bizon, Goofers, Badgers, 'Dawgs (however may types there are out there, a dime a dozen), Pioneers, Red Birds (Miami?), Mavericks, Huskies, etc.

Didn't realize Providence had climbed up to #17 in PW. I knew at beginning of season they were ranked just a hair behind the Sioux so I knew then they were a qlty team then I later heard they were not doing nearly as well as suspected but didn't realize they had come back a bit. Hey, that's good then if they rise in the PW, makes the Sioux look better in non-conf play (a tie ain't a loss although it no doubt felt like it at the time) so I'll take it.

Was at the Cal-Davis game, the noise was deafening at the Al! Didn't Cal-Davis have like 6 off-sides penalties or something called against them? I recall Lennon getting pissed for playing Sweet Home Alabama a minute or two before the game had finished.

gfhockey/post #101--I hear what you're saying but believe the reason one does a jump shot on a field goal attempt is to minimize the chance of having their shot blocked, while when shooting a free throw there's no chance of another player blocking it. I'm no physicist but I have to think when you jump you have less odds of making a shot vs shooting a free throw since movement has to effect (negatively) your shot making to some degree. That would be evidenced by a good field goal shooting percentage being 50% while for shooting free throws it's considered 75% - 80%. Go Sioux!

Badlands/Badlanders is a good one. It's of ND and assume no one else uses it? That or Predators.
-
All I ask is how many D-1A titles (I'm not talking lower tier football level) has NDSU won compared to UND? I know UND has won at minimum 7 national titles at the top college level, what about NDSU? And to think NDSU transferred up to the D-1A level 5 years PRIOR TO (save for just 1 sport) UND dong it so they have a leg up on UND time-wise in all but 1 sport. What's the count? 7 to .....?

Fetch, post #64, you make an excellent point. They seem to have to be in trouble before they turn it on the intensity, not sure why that might be? And I'm just not talking when they're behind in a game (e.g. LSSU & AF), but also when they're down in a series (e.g. at St Clown & at Denver). Frustrating to say the least. Based on their mentality, I had a feeling that after winning the first game Fri night vs Miami & Providence both they would not get the sweep, which they didn't. They need to change their mindset, motivation, hunger, etc. I realize some of those teams are talented too and trying hard too but no excuses when playing Bemidji (split), Providence (tie second night), and AF (took a miracle win).
