I worked in the airline business for 8 years so I know the ins and outs of most of what we are dicussing - that said - when you "charter" an aircraft it makes no difference if you have 2 or 200 people onboard. You pay the same for it's use on your trip regardless of passenger count. A ballpark is that it would cost approximately $75,000 (give or take) for a round trip charter trip to Maine from Grand Forks. This figure can fluctuate significantly between charter carriers - some factors are the need to "ferry" an airplane into Grand Forks and then "ferry" it back to it's base of operation, the extremely high cost of jet fuel at present etc. etc. etc.

Go see a game at Fenway sometime then....and you can piss in what equates to a bunch of elogated bathtubs.

flying commercially..

Well wonder what the reasoning is behind it. Must have something to do with contingency planning of sorts - delays, mechanical problems, schedules.

It is a well known disease that quite a few individuals have south on I29 - oh about 78 miles - called Siouxenvy.
-
Would make sense given the financials surrounding "commerical" flights and all the security hurdles.

I think my point was that "chartering" an aircraft from Northwest airlines for a trip such as this is the equivalent of walking into a BMW dealership and asking the slick salesman how much that shinny car costs out on the lot - then writing out a check for that amount.

I think his login name explains just about everthing....

My math was off...Having grown up in the Boston area I have driven that route many times but not for quite a few years. Should be more like 3.5 hrs. 2 1/2 hours will get you up to Freeport or there abouts. Orono is considerably more north western from the coast.
-
Smart - Word has it they "chartered" a plane from NWA which in itself is ridiculous and surely reflects the $800 price tag on this trip. I'm VERY surprised they didn't shop the chartered aircraft market for this trip. Perhaps might be due to the team flying on the aircraft as well and the contingency planning in the event of a delay or weather etc. You can pick up a flight to Boston from Minneapolis for $250..rent a car for another $150 for the two hour thirty minute drive to UMaine and pick up your own tickets for the games for about $500 total. Unless of course you want to fly with the team - which will cost you an additional 3 hundo for that honor.

After reading that I'm embarrased in that I'm from Massachusetts. She needs to be lynched

Coming from little clown college kid that statement holds a lot of water.

Yeah it is by Disturbed. Well For Whom the Bell Tolls would also get the crowd loud and on it's feet. Just give it a chance....

8 bills..Trying to figure that one out. Doesn't include meals? I think Al Pierson's trip to Providence in 2000 was only $450 and that included tickets to the FF (which were $150 alone), hotel and transport. This deal seems pretty steep. Perhaps I didn't read all the "inclusives" close enough.

Sounds like going back to school is the key. I took a class Sr. year called "Field Trip to Winnipeg". Great 2 credit course. We hopped in a car - drove to Winnipeg...walked around....went to a bar and downed some of the local brew (6.5% I might add) and came back. Took a short essay exam the following week and bang - 2 credits. Might be worthwhile to sign up for that class again just to get the "student" rate on season tickets...

Don't get me started on Kupchella please........THAT could go on for a while... I have no problem with the access to the arena. Then again I"m not someone who circles a parking lot for an hour looking for the closest spot to the front door. I can't see any reason for complaints from the students - then again I"m no longer one any more so I don't have a basis. Now if they moved the student section up to the top bowl exclusively - I could see a big problem with that. It amazes me that this very idea was even considered by the administration. I sit right next to the student section in the lower bowl and to me the game just isn't the same without them there. The holiday games and during spring break just wasn't the same. Keep the students where they are and bring back "first come first served" free admission for them as well.

Sure if you don't mind me calling you an idot for making a comment "he is the president he can do whatever the heck he wants). Perhaps you have been reading too much about eastern block countries?

Never realized that my comment about a "tacky" picture would snowball into two pages of responses. Let me reiterate - I never intended it to be a slam on O'Keefe...Just perhaps his judgement in posing with his pooch in the arena.

I don't sing the anthem - for fear of sounding like that guy from American Idol - William Hung. I like to think I save the singing for those that can sing. I have no problem shouting "home of the SIOUX" however as that is hard to butcher and doesn't require much vocal skill. If I had previously served in the armed forces I might hold a different belief but for now it doesn't bother me in the least. I think what is more bothersome is the occasional a$$ in the crowd that finds the need to yell something during the anthem or fail to remove his cap.
