I don't have any friends to the South

This is somewhat confusing - aren't all non-student season ticket holders "members" of the FSC? Thirsty hockey fans may end up in Penalty Box New bar will be built for non-Fighting Sioux Club members. by Alissa Johnson September 27, 2004 Starting this hockey season, there will be a new penalty box at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. The general public will not be allowed in the club lounges that overlook the ice in the upper bowl. Instead REA built a new bar in the arena's Olympic Center. Both club lounges are only open to Fighting Sioux Club members. Previously on the south bar was reserved for Fighting Sioux Club members, while the north lounge was open to ticket holders over the age of 21. According to Jane Sykes, Ralph Engelstad Arena marketing coordinator, the decision to build the new bar was made in order to free up space in the existing bars. The club seat owners felt that the bars were too crowded, Sykes said. She added that the decision to implement this new policy change was made by top-level Fighting Sioux Club members and REA management. Patrons of the Penalty Box will have to watch the game on televisions, but Sykes said the Penalty Box will feature special events during the games to keep fans entertained while they are away from the action. "There will be nightly drink specials and entertainment for the non-club members," Sykes said. New this year are reward cards, which reward frequent drink buyers with free drinks. During games in the Penalty Box, Sykes said REA officials plan on having prize giveaways and drawings. Cheerleaders for the Minnesota Vikings will be on hand to meet Sioux fans and sign autographs Oct. 22 during the game against Minnesota, Sykes said. Sykes added that non-members of the Fighting Sioux Club will still be able to enter the bars at the north and south ends of the arena, but they will have to rely on guest passes that will be available for club members to use. Sykes said the first guest pass will be free for club members, but additional passes are obtainable for a price.

Season Tickets SUPPOSEDLY sent out 9/13

Do you think? If I didn't drive/fly up from Minneapolis for every game I might not be as opinionated. Man this really chaps me though considering the commute up to Grand Forks for the game. The last straw will be if they take away the parking spot. After a 4 1/2 hour drive the last thing you want to screw with is a 1/2 hour walk to the building in -30 temps. -

Fellow Coaches Club and above members: I see we are getting an $1100 parking spot this year!!!!! and to top it off it will be included in the price of our ticket package!!!!! Wow this is a fantastic deal! I'm assuming it comes heated, covered and with a complete bar in which to socialize before during and after the games. I also guess that sweet media guide isn't included this year - it wasn't much use anyway being mailed to us during late March. Thanks for taking that away also. Thanks so much Mark and the REA.....This latest ticket package is just the best ever. -
Cripes....You can fly anywhere in the world on any airline for nothing as a one year old "lap child" on the leg of your parent but you can't attend a game at the REA unless you fork out $5!! wow!
-
If you want a marketing assignment - here it is. UNDproud has summed up the problems with the REA perfectly in this paragraph - period.
-
It wouldn't surprise me in the least - just rack up another terrible decision for the REA staffers (if this is true).

Someone needs to bring back the old Fat Alberts that was on Gateway...I will take one Atomic please!!!! -
My apologies to the REA. On the topic of Student Government - anything that hints of even the slightest amount of politics is bound to be screwed-up. Must be democratic leadership.
-
Am I reading that yet another policy was bungled by the REA? (read Club Rooms).
-
Sic: Thanks for running those numbers - brings everything into perspective!
-
What is the FSC "donation" for the upper bowl seats that was just imposed?
-
In this case not the brighest of moves. I mean what student "donates" $1100 up to $11000 to the FSC annually? None I know of anyway. I had a tough time coming up with the $5 for three pitchers of beer on Friday's at the DU! Not saying the students should be screwed I'm just making a point in that they are biting the hand that feeds their operating budget.
-
You are missing the point USA - the bars were NOT crowded when they were restricted access such as years one and two at the REA.
-
Ok Goon...that is great. And with all due respect...Donate $1100 next year for your seat and let me know if you have the same opinion about this new policy. I don't go to the REA to sit in a bar either. In fact I just enjoy going between periods for a beer and to meet friends rather than do battle with the crowds on the concourse. So for that priveledge being taken away - an considering my $1100 "dontation" - yes I'm pissed off.
-
They didn't have any problems getting to their seats when the club was restricted to Coaches and higher. My point exactly.....Those club seats come with a server - so if you desire you can walk up to the bar but you certainly don't have to if you want a drink or food.
-
What donation level are you at?
-
I'm probably coming across as b$tching about everything but I would love to see a random poll taken of the Coaches and higher level members on this topic to see what the general opinion is of this latest REA/FSC fiasco.
-
I agree with you 100%. Our status is a mere pittance compared to those other levels. It would really be nice to see this cave in on them and result in a drop in FSC membership and "donations". All I know is that I'm now not going to spend any money in the REA rather prefer to spend it at Dagwoods or somewhere else before the game and after. Screw them........I mean really what a bunch of complete fools. They started us in the South End Club at limited access....which was nice and the pre-game social was nice and much appreciated by all I spoke with. Then revenue must have been low so they opened it up after the game started to anyone. Then it gets TOO crowded (what the hell did you think was going to happen you fools!) so now they are kicking everyone out. Doesn't this all revert back to square one with low revenue? How many people do you honestly think are going to spending money in those clubs now with this new policy? Coming full circle like this just affirms my position that complete bozos made the call on this one.
-
Well I'm also a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Evidently people at the REA/FSC don't understand that concept too well. They seem to not mind giving everyone the same product, access etc even though there are substantially different levels of payment for said. Looks like I know can lay claim to having a Media Guide AND a parking spot 100 feet closer to the door - all for the low low price of $1100!!! Thanks guys.....What good fortune you have provided all the FSC Coaches level and above members!!!!

I don't think you will have a problem with being harrassed. Although there are always exceptions - as I recall last year - a couple of hogs (women) wearing the Gopher jerseys last year at Dagwoods before the game on Friday night - got a bit too cocky and intoxicated. I believe I saw a few bowls of popcorn being lobbed over at them. Although being extremely portly ladies they consumed most of it before any hit them or the ground.
