Wrestling used to almost a universal sport collegiate lyrics and now is almost rarer than hockey. The women's groups really stepped up its activism and wrestling had the least amount of public support.
-
One has to feel for Dodson and the players, both now and in the past.
-
That could be a wild card. Some other schools that have dropped wrestling and baseball got them reinstated because of alumni pressure and donations.
-
Baseball sadly was just a pawn, which was held only to satisfy conference affiliation. When the Big Sky was chosen, baseball died then. The state cutbacks are just an excuse to finally cut it so it would appear athletics is not getting off with no pain. If cutbacks were so critical, why did men's and women's basketball get money to host in postseason?

Has UND ever run a promotion for T&F or golf or swimming. Love baseball, but this is more about positioning sports for the future and facilities than for the 1890s.
-
Euros have done it multiple times, not just the Lamoureuxs.
-
The women's soccer team would be training in the Ralph if the women's hockey team wasn't there.
-
Women's hockey consistently has Olympians. What other UND women's sport can say that?
-
UND should be competing for Natty's in women's hockey. That's altogether a different argument but it's the truth. No other women's sport can reasonably compete for a Natty. That's the difference.

Both Michigan's have field hockey and rowing to offset hockey. Rowing takes a tremendous amount of schollies. Yost is old so females are not clamoring to work out there.
-
Basketball and volleyball are. Soccer and softball have made big strides toward it. Tennis is not fully funded, but that means scholarships go to foreign athletes like other Big Sky teams, which can be exclusively foreign. Women's golf had more scholarships than men. T &F and S&D should be approaching full funding now. Don't know the latest numbers.
-
Title IX also includes facilities access. Having only men's hockey is a huge red flag for Title IX. Also, Title IX is why Idalski gets paid so well relative to men's basketball and Jones.
-
Denver's a short timer which ever way you spin it. They want a more prestigious conference badly, like the NCHC for hockey and the Big East for lax. If the WCC ever has an opening, they are gone even if they have to pay a travel allowance.
-
Men's basketball and men's swimming.
-
UMKC fled the Slummit to go to the WAC after they had pledged to the Slummit that they would start baseball. They never did.
-
If we were in the least bit interested in the Slummit, we would have to have baseball. Since it was cut, the Slummit is totally off the table. Deal with it.
-
Anyone thinking women's hockey gets cut does not know the realities of Title IX.
-
M swimming only has a couple schollies divided among many. Womens s swimming has almost the full complement , but there are still divided up.
-
It's too many women scholarships to replace. This looks like it's paving the way for FBS, in getting rid of men's slots.
-
Lacrosse is a sport that we now have perfect facilities, and the women could go MPSF. Of course, nothing would be added for a while.
-
Probably all WAC sports, M W swimming and baseball. W swimming has alot of schollies though, so that might have to be retained.

This has been hashed over so many times but certain poster do not get that the MVFC cannot be an FBS league according to the NCAA. UND is not a member of the MVC and has no shot at membership. Same with the other Dakotas but their fans have self deluded themselves into believing the MVC would welcome them with open arms when actually the MVC basketball side would spit in your faces. The key for the MVC is to keep Wichita St for football, and they want a presence in the Southwest with Texas schools and NMSU. Creighton's AD recently said that the Big East may go to 12 and Wichita State is on their list for new teams, but Wichita St would have to drop preparation for FBS The American would be open to WSU too by Tulsa sources if Cincy and/or another school leave that conference. If Wichita State leaves the MVC, the MVC will look south and east for new members like Belmont, Valpo and Murray State.

Supposedly UMKC would get conference tournaments out of it, the WAC waived their entrance fee, the WAC paid their Slummit League exit fees at the time (250k), they thought it would be easier to win their conference tournament, the Summit was expecting UMKC to start baseball and the WAC said that wasn't necessary, UMKC was on the short list last time for MVC membership where they really want to be, and UMKC didn't want their schedules loaded with Dakota schools as that DII'ish. UMKC will probably be at the top of the list again for the MVC even though they don't have a resume to speak of. The WAC plays better on their resume and for KC's urbane fans than the Slummit. The Big Sky/WAC were attempting to break up the Slummit so the other Dakotas had to go west. Denver was the problem as they didn't want any part of GCU and presumably UVU and Chicago St. ORU coming back to the Slummit was what saved it as the Slummit barely got back to the bare minimum for baseball (which the Slummit has declared a key team sport for NCAA conference purposes - failure to field six teams in men's soccer and baseball for more than two years forfeits the Slummit's bball autobid by rule.)

The prospect of the Big Sky going FBS is why UND wouldn't even consider this. But you will deny that as a possibly til the cows come home.

So obviously bizon fans can't see BS even if it hit them in the face. So FBS move up rules have changed approximately every 5-10 years, but you seem to think they are written in stone. The NCAA placed a three year moratorium on new bowls today. The first year another bowl can start is 2019, the exact year that I say they will be needed. Too many coincidents.
