Yeah, agreed. You don't have a goalie with those type of accolades as your third string. He would bounce to the CHL so fast, he would have never came here in the first place (ala Mike Lee)
-
I bet not....the main difference....head injuries, which are A LOT more serious than superficial cuts. With the increased speed of the game you have to protect your head...not your mouth down.
-
1. Yes to be a solid back-up and to split time with Gothberg until he is ready. 2. They will split time until Gothberg eventually takes the reins....which should be by December (unless Dell is still there and is playing alright).
-
True, until it happens....you can't say that about every single goalie who comes from a crappy team. There are a lot of them and on 1% turn into Steady Eddy's.
-
You have now lost it. I could see, at some point, requiring half shields to protect eyes only, however, full facial protection will never be a mandate. You are not right.
-
Who he is scared of really doesn't matter, either way he will lose playing time (mentioned before). On another note, I get this Saunders is supposed to be good and I hope he is, however, I don't see how Saunders is the "go to" goalie. He may be at some point, but going into the season...no way. He was a non recruited goalie (hence he ended up at UAH), who did play on a (very) crappy team, but I simply don't see how he automatically starts over Dell or Gothberg. Yes, I believe he will get some playing time, but I would think (if Dell does come back) it would be a Dell/Gothberg combo with Saunders getting some PT if Dell or Gothberg struggles. If Dell leaves I see a Gothberg/Saunders combo until Gothberg pulls away. Hak will give Gothberg every chance to succeed.

Let me say this, yes Dell did pick it up at the end of the year and I felt he played about as well as he could of. However, I have never seen a goalie get pulled as much as he did at the start of the year. I think it was seriously like 6-7 times in an 11 game span. Yes, his final numbers were actually OK given how bad he was blown up to start the year, but I seriously attribute that to having great dmen in from of him. Yes, UND had a young, hurt team but let's not kid ourselves, the guys we have are all very legit players/propects. Especially for college hockey. Gothberg was drafted in the 5th round (I believe), that is very good for a goalie. You simply do not have a goalie come in with those accolades and not at least complete to start. I heard some on this site saying Gothberg may be the 3rd string goalie, I always laughed at that. I have not paid attention too much to that AHA goalie but if Dell stays he will be splitting serious time with Gothberg or will lose his job the first few times he gets blown up.

Haha, I like it. But in all seriousness...what was that??? Guys use those to go to the moon I think.

Well, I actually agree with you that he is not that good of a goalie. However, I believe he will get a job as an AHL goalie. Dell has good size and his positioning is the reason he has made it this far. His biggest, glaring weakness is his rebound control....it is beyond terrible. I have actually seen good Bantam goalies here in the Cities have better rebound control than him. One of the reasons he didn't get lit up more while he was here was due to the outstanding dmen UND has produced. Now in saying that, I wish him the best and hope that, if he signs, the team has a good goalie coach and can really focus this summer on that one aspect. Another one of his issues is that he gets shelved to much.....but it is minor in comparison to his rebound control. If he does solve that, I believe he has a great shot at a decent professional career. If he doesn't he'll end up in the CHL (US). If I were him, I would come back for one more year of work in college. But from me, let's role with Gothberg, he is much better right now.

Still can't see straight down and the puck will get lost in your blind zone too often....you are forced to look down to find the puck, before you know it you are toast. That shield is a lot bigger than mine....take off the bars and it would still be too big for me, however, this may be OK for the players.
-
Yup, Rocco should be a lock to make the team and Schmaltz may have a good shot too.
-
As for turning your head....you do that with or without a full cage. As for holding up in the corners....you are crazy, that has nothing to do with their cages. Oh by the way....when have you even seen Ovi hold up into the corner? Kane maybe, not Ovi.
-
What does a goalies cage that a skater's doesn't? Well bigger eye slits of coarse....also a goalie is looking straight ahead at the puck coming at him 98% of the time where a skater need more of a peripheral view of oncoming traffic. Players are coming to hit you from all directions...even if you are skating straight ahead. Goalies do not worry about getting hit. That is my only arguement....having a half shield lets me have my peripheral vision and my vision straight down whereas a full mask you have very little peripheral vision and absolutely no vision straight down. But you must have played a bunch so you know all this already. You are simply worried about getting a baby cut on your lip every once in awhile.

Yeah....he should win it this year. On a different note...is Dell gone? I read some rumors that he is a lock to leave.
-
Sure...I really hope he does and I bet he will. I just think he does so in the bottom 6. Great player though, any other team he may be in a better position. The Sioux are simply too deep. I mean we're are talking about moving a 20 goal scorer (from the previous year) to a third line in his senior year....I guess that sounds a little crazy to me. May they move parks or Macm then. Although both of those guys looked much better than O'donnell to me. We'll see I guess.
-
hahah....i just chocked on my food reading that....that was a good one.
-
Oooohhhh got me. Well the only other sport is basketball then...which yes, they may make the big dance and be a punching bag to whatever 1 seed they play. I was truly thinking only football in my comment though...get a life.
-
I know he could do it...but yes that would be an insult. Unless of course he starts the year off really slow. At times last year he was our best player and given top 6 and PP opportunities this year he could have a great year....one that helps us win a Nat'l Tourney and get him a nice contract offer. To start the year, I bet he's top 6.
-
Yup, I know. I was talking football. I should have mentioned that.
-
FYI (as noted in the article) like 3% of the populations actually vote. I used to audit reservations....they don't get up for things like this. Believe me, they could care less about what we do.
-
All jokes aside, yes I agree with your statement. They should be called D-1 because some may get confused (as with many of the NDSU fans who claim they have won a D-1 Nat'l championship, which I always reply "yes, but AA", big difference). I actually had two Bison friends of mine first claim that the Bison could win the Big-10 (and should be ranked inside the top-25 nationally) and 2nd should play the Tide (winner of each championship should play each other). Both very dumb statements.
-
I agree with you completely, yes UND's sports are D-1 (with a huge set of AA's behind it) but only hockey is top notch. Don't get me wrong I love Sioux (UND) sports but come on...they have a AA for a reason. Might as well say D-2....because they won't compete with the big boys (on a consistent basis, for all of you going to bring up NDSU wins over the Gophs). Yes the absolute best AA teams may beat the absolute worst A teams every so often. Roll tide.
