Tyson Jost left after one season and struggled mightily when he was sent to the Avalanche after signing. Blake will likely get buried in the AHL and may never get more than a cup of coffee in the big leagues.

I disagree. I think he could play…staying another here would help I believe.

And almost all of those guys ended up in junior hockey AFTER Shattuck. That’s my point. They rarely go straight to the NCAA anymore

Well celebrini was super good and young…Lacombe didn’t play a full season of juniors. So there is the exception, but you’d have to be really good to not play a year of juniors. Which is basically what you’re implying…I agree.

How long ago did those guys you mentioned play college hockey? These are different times.

I think what he’s saying is that the skill of their tier 1 league is really good. It’s definitely not as heavy as juniors…but typically every team has a few really skilled guys. So not as tough as junior but def better than mn hs hockey.

SSM kids also typically do well at the college level, including a lot of UND players: Zach Parise, Drew Stafford, Jonathan Toews, Brady Murray, Ryan Duncan, Chris Porter, Matt Smaby, Taylor Chorney. That is why it surprised me when UND wanted Scott Morrow to play a year of juniors after excelling at SSM. He was the 2nd leading scorer on UMass as a Freshman, and has been the leading scorer for UMass as a sophomore and junior and he's a defenseman.

    Yep morrow is really good.

    Zellers' numbers are insane.

They are…but one thing to keep in mind is that SSM is way better than their comp, so they typically put up video game numbers. It is positive he’s leading the team however.

What is your source on this?

Oh just everything seems to lean that way. Insta following, dad worked there, all the major journalists saying MN is heavy favorite. I have no inside info, just saying it’s looking that way.

Interesting. Thought I read both an Athletic and Hockey News article this month that said Carolina might try trading Blake for lack of room in their system.

Well he wasn’t included in the Guenztel trade…so the Canes clearly value him (or Pitt doesn’t I suppose :)).

#29 for Q just needed to send that puck over the glass and into the crowd

It looked like he knocked it right to 13…weird sequence

Moore with a few really bad turnovers.

One bad turnover that wasn’t a scoring chance. Saved the game a minute before that with a blocked shot. Hilarious timing of your post.

How sweet would that be. Has east coast written all over him. But playing with Blake would be enticing (assuming Blake doesn’t sign).

Well I guess we are in the mix…along with Wisco and MN

Again, I’m guessing it would hinge on if Blake is coming back.

Kawaguchi was definitely not a great skater but neither is Blake. This is another reason why I don't think he is near NHL ready. You can really notice a not so great skater when they are tired and that is exactly when Blake shows he isn't a very efficient skater.

Blake is a really good skater. Not necessarily a long power strider, but fairly quick and can play with super pace. He’s also ridiculously edgy. Kawaguchi was flat out slow.

I mean they did already beat BC this season so I wouldn’t say it’s not out of the question.

They need to get rizzo back.

on a side note…Carle’s accolades are nuts considering he’s been coaching for 6 years.

Why does it seem the majority of people think Blake is good enough to go pro?

He’s small and can be reckless with the puck. Can he score? Absolutely, but I don’t feel he’s close to NHL ready. I think it’d be beneficial for him to stay at least another year maybe even through senior year.

If he were to leave now, I see a Kawaguchi or Adams situation, going to AHL squad then may not even hang there but moved down to the jungle. Could be proved wrong tho.

He’s way better (and has a way higher ceiling) than the two players you mentioned. He’s the definition of a late bloomer. He’s grown quite a bit in the two years he’s been at UND. Pretty sure he’s listed at 5’11” now. When he was drafted he was like 5’7” 120.

His O is so much better than many of the college players. He definitely has to play better D however. He’s a significantly better skater than Kawaguchi.

What Blake is missing is a trigger man (hopefully that doesn’t bring up the getter setter whatever posters :)). But in all honesty…Blake needs an elite shooter with him. He’s going to be an elite robin as opposed to a Batman.
