    Schmaltz......"Hold my beer".

......and let's not forget the missed NCAA Lovefest with Hain and Senden that year.

Seems some definitely get jettisoned quick while others have rope that is pretty long.

At times he passes the eye test and he did have that nice frosh year. But…I’m a big numbers guy, especially for those players getting offensive looks. This guy has had the longest leash of all time. I honestly think I would have quadrupled his goal total assuming I could drop 10-15 or so. In all seriousness, hopefully he bounces back next year. We’ll need him.

    Projection based on current info:

    Forward (15):
    GR - Jamernik
SR - Berg, Kunz, Schmaltz, Montgomery
JR - Blake, McLaughlin, James, Strinden
    SO - Perron
FR - Swanson, Boisvert, Croal, Littler
    X - Portal

    Defense (9):
    JR - Zmolek
SO - Livanavage, Wiebe, Komzak, MacDonald
    FR - Jubenvill, Strathmann, Emery
    X - Portal

    Goalie (3):
    SR - Semptimphelter
    JR - Johnson
    SO - Hedquist

Benoit enters portal...wouldn't be surprised if another Dman enters as well.
So still room for another RHD to come in via portal, maybe a JR/SR to balance the classes a little.

    Don’t we typically run with 8 D?

If one of them win it this year, doesn’t mean much when you have other teams that have been rolling in first round draft picks the last decade and don’t even have league titles to show for it.

Well Boisvert should be a first rounder (insane, finally a 1st rd F) and emery could sneak in there too. And I’ll take’m

…and in the past we agreed that recruit rankings and high draft picks don’t mean you are going to win it all.  In fact someone pointed out the number of first round picks Denver has had.  Seemed like Minnesota always had higher ranked classes, even in the Blais era.  Agree we need to see results, but don’t know if that entails getting this certain player, or that player, but moreso a change in mindset or philosophy in the postseason to make sure we are playing our best hockey that time of year, rather than peaking early.

1st round talents sure help. Look at the top 5 scoring race. I know it’s just one year, but BC has a bunch of 1st rounders. They may not win it…but they sure do look to be a tough out. BU has some decent first rounders/future first rounders.

Or it could be as simple as he’s spent the last year in Bemidji and wanted to spend the next 1-2 years in a bigger city?

All these kids have different reasons for choosing the schools that they do. Pohlkamp would be playing at the next level regardless of what school he attends, heck he could have stayed at BSU and accomplished that goal easily. Both DU and UND coaching staffs have proven without doubt that they are good at preparing their athletes for the next level.

I’d bet top $ it has to do with Carle. He’s been incredible the past 6 years. Also, he really allows his skill players to play their own style, especially the dmen. I’ve actually heard that from some higher end players. Fairly attractive recruiting tool. (Can’t stand that I just posted this).

    Hence the....

But not always so you still end up with some super high-end kid who you'll hear and see in college and beyond in the future.

Its just impressive the sheer talent that is out there.

A great thing to be able to host them in our state, and even more awesome for Team ND kids who earned their way to experience it!

They'll be better for experience and had themselves a chance at some real exposure

That’s my problem…I can only make it 1-3 sentences in :)

The real amazing thing is that as high end as it is 15s is a quasi tier2 division... as the higher end 15s will be on their programs 16U team.

It does kinda stink that SSM takes the MN slots every year, with at-large availability it would kinda make sense for them to be just granted a provision at large slot every year and allow for the other MN teams to compete more often.

But then others would want the same and some other acade6would just fill SSM void in MN.

These nationals truly are amazing experiences for the participants, spectators, and recruiting.

Partly true…some advisors push for their players to play at their birth years. Sometimes physical maturity comes into play. 15O level has a ton of good players. Zajic from SSM is one of the highest end 08s in the country. LI Gulls have high end 08s as well.

it will be the biggest regret of his  career, if he does

It would absolutely suck if he leaves and I think one more year would help him. But it will 100% not be the biggest regret of his career. He was a really good player for us. Can’t stand some posters who put this stuff out. He may regret it a bit (I’m sure he will) but he’s been an awesome college player. I could see a scenario where he feels he’s ready for the next level…either AHL/NHL.

I'm not a fan of this age group playing by the USA hockey rules on the icing while short handed and automatic offsides, but the kids are so skilled they've just adapted.

*Maybe not on the PK, they still ice the puck.

Fun stuff…wish I was closer to Fargo

I'd recommend anyone in the FM area with time to kill stop and watch these kids play.  The games are only going to get better as the knockout session starts on Friday.  Pool play ends today with most of the final 8 spots already secured.

Ridiculously high end tourney. I didn’t grow up in MN, but live here now. I really wish MN was able to participate in this. And yes, I know it is technically possible for MN teams to make this tourney…but in all reality, it isn’t.

If Pohlkamp decides to come here…he’s taking Jubenvill’s spot? I wasn’t overly sure he’d make it on campus.

    I have no inside knowledge.

However, I stayed at Holiday ....  No, in all honestly, I read a Pioneer Press article a few weeks ago where Pohlkamp said his two options were Bemidji or Bowling Green, where both his brothers played.  He said there was "no way" he was going to Bowling Green, and then the article when on to talk about how he wanted the opportunity to play in front of family.

Now maybe Pohlkamp is smarter than his age and deflected the real reason for avoiding the sh!tshow at Bowling Green right now.  But if he wants to play in front of his family, sounds like North Dakota is a better option than Denver.

But I fear its Denver, too.  When David Carle picked Pohlkamp over Livanavage for World Juniors, I wonder if it came with a side agreement ....

It didn’t. Pohlkamp is probably better.
