  1. sloppy play all night - third was better but we had our chances - their goalie was the difference

I disagree, this was the best game I have seen the Sioux play this year. They still had some soft defensive turnovers like they always do but overall they played pretty well. We simply ran into an outstanding goalie...that kid was awesome....I wish we could find goalie liket who can absolutely steal games. He played big in the net so deflections would be harder to score on, he was extremely quick (that much was obvious) and his rebound control was solid. On a different note, we need to keep playing like we did last night and good things will come our way quickly. We need to win tonight.

  2. Hopefully he picks it up, I was expecting Morelli to have a big year after getting selected so high in the USHL futures draft.

That's what I was going to say...but didn't want to catch any flack for critizing the kid. I know he is only 16 but there are a decent amount of kids that play juniors that are 16 and put up more points (if we're talking about prospective UND recruits). I mean, UND has to recruit the best kids around...not simply feel good stories out of ND. I had buddies leave to juniors right after their sophomore years and they were putting up better numbers than that...and in the USHL no less. The NAHL is quite a lower level of play than the USHL. On a more positive note, there is a good chunk of the season left...he may turn it around. One other thing, I see he was drafted in the USHL, why wouldn't he go play there? Homesick? Typical response about wanting to spend time with friends (or girlfriend)?

  3. No one has said much about North Dakota kids lately that haven't committed. Two I'm hopeful that find their way to Grand Forks.

~Jordan Nelson of the Fargo Force (Williston) has 12 points in 22 games, and is second on the team in shots on goal, with a +/- of +4.

Mason Morelli of the Minot Tauros (Minot) has 9 points in 22 games, but is minus 7 in the plus minus area.

I believe this is Nelson's last year of Juniors while Morelli is only a Junior in high school. I'm thinking its more likely Morelli ends up in Grand Forks (with a Grandpa and dad with ties it helps), but I'm holding out hope that a kid like Nelson could be a four year role guy for UND that gives his heart and soul every shift.

With those numbers mason must be a dman?

  4. BC has won 4 NC's since our last one, hate to say it but nobodys been better the last 10 years.

Agreed, yes we have more NC's but this is a "what have you done for me lately era" so BC should be treated on a higher standard (for now). All in all, UND is still a top 3-5 program in the country so they can't take that away from us. But yes, BC sure has the trophies through my lifetime.

  5. Latest update on Quentin Shore

At this point he should just go, imo. Teammates, coaches, and fans know that he has been exploring his options. If he stays, will he still be completely dedicated to DU with Portland in the back of his mind?

Didn't Portland just get blasted by the league? I find the timing of this a bit odd.

  6. So far, Saunder has played pretty well. He absolutely stole Friday night's ND game and I heard he played extremely well against SCSU that Friday night. He has also played some below average game....last Friday and Saturday night. Either way....he is an upgrade over Dell. I would like to see more of Gothberg...I actually thought he would have the job by now. His leash was much shorter than Saunders....give the kid a break Hak!

  7. There are plenty of young hockey players in Grand Forks that aren't huge Sioux fans. Some may just want to be contrarian, but for whatever reason, you see a gopher hat here or there on youth players.

Yeah...until they figure things out. I liked the Gophs simply because my parents were Sioux fans and simply wanted to be different. Once I turned 13-14 or something I got my head on straight. I knew and played with Ryan for quite along time....he was at many Sioux games when he was younger. Irmen was a big Sioux fan and was actually hoping to play for UND right up until the end.

  8. I can remember these from new Ralph days on. May have missed one

    Prpich vs Umd home

    McMahon vs gophers home

    Radke vs Denver home

    Kaip vs Uaa home

Kaip vs Mankato away after he took 3 punches to face looking at the bench home vs mankato iirc as he was told not to fight

    Lamoureux vs Marvin

Zach jones vs Mario lucia skating away

    Turgeon vs Lamoureux

Schneider vs manitoba guy (last game at the old ralph I believe...could be wrong)

  9. From what I heard, this was common knowledge back in the day, that Grant's dad told Blais he would take them both Grant and Ryan or none at all. I have heard this more than once. Must be true right? :)

Rumors....but that was common knowledge...but not spoken about too much.

  10. Three goals should win you most hockey games. However, last night also proved that giving up five will also lose you a lot of games. Our defensive zone coverage has been a problem all season long and it looks like it still is. Why we are even talking about "hot goalies" at this point is beyond me. ???

I get criticism for my signature on SS.com, but I think the "hot goalie" excuse is overused by our fan base and I simply won't jump on the bandwagon with everyone else. I don't hear other fan bases use that one nearly as much as ours does. The WCHA is one of the best leagues in college hockey year in and year out. The NCHC is looking like a solid league as well. Either we learn how to score on good goaltending or we had better get used to splitting every weekend....or worse. And that only seems to happen in the second half. One of these years, the second-half run won't happen and we'll find ourselves sitting at home in March after a .500 season. Tonight is the next most important game of the year.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  11. Every program has a chance. To say that the Gophers don't have an advantage over UND in the Twin Cities is disingenuous. You grabbed Parise out of our backyard, and we grabbed Potulny out of yours. Difference is, neither grew up a big Gopher or Sioux fans respectively. As for Gersich, no one is saying it's a lock. But his dad played for the Gophers, and three of his uncles played for the Gophers. He grew up a Gopher hockey fan. Who would you say has the recruiting advantage?

Potulnys weren't Sioux fans when they were younger? Reading some of u guys posts is hilarious. All GF boys are Sioux fans when they are younger.
