  1. Because so many nice things were said on this site about Miller and Matteau after they de-committed? I have news for you people. GPL and Siouxsports are nearly identical message boards, with identical opinions, simply different fan bases. I know Gopher fans like to think they're different(better) than Sioux fans and Sioux fans like to think they're different(better) than Gopher fans but in reality the fan bases are more similar than not.

True. Gopher fans like to think they are better because a large % of players come from MN while ND fans think they are better due to more championships.

  2. Just watching him as an 8th grader absolutly schooling players that were up to 5 years older than him was special. Hes got awesome hands and vision which always make for a good playmaker. Throw in some speed and hard nosed defensive mentality and he could develope into a special player.

Also can't understate how important it is to have grand forks kids (when they're good enough) on the team.

I totally agree....it's so good for the community. Anyways, I'm hoping for a better second half out of Johnson.

  3. I know you are kidding, but a lot of times it is a crapshoot trying to project how a player will develop. I think everybody thought that A.J. Michaelson was a big loss for us, but I don't think he will be an impact player, except if he can progress the way that Matt Frattin did every year. Wes Dorey was supposed to be the stud in his recruiting class and Jeff Panzer almost an afterthought, and we all know how that turned out. Gersich might not develop to be an impact player, but is nice to have the skill base he does and hope the ethic and some great coaching can allow him to progress to an impact player.

After seeing him play....I would be blown away if he wasn't an impact player. He is way too smart on the ice, plus he has a long way to go as far as maturing...from what I can see. I really hope he plays juniors for the next two years.

  4. We cooled on him and we dont have enough spots open for him anyways. ;)

    Great get for UND though.

Haha yeah right...I saw him play a few weeks back, he is awesome. Three things I noticed: 1. Kid has sick vision; 2. super dangles; 3. the sauciest passes I have seen in high school since some Baron kid that played for LOW.

  5. I didnt realize we were only talking the last ten years but that would include 2 NCAA Titles for Minnesota so explain how UND with zero in that same time frame should be ranked higher.

See my previous posts...they have also been up and down for the past 10 years...but yes you are correct, they did have those back to back ones.

  6. And our favorite JT Miller, he now plays in the AHL for the Connecticut Whale. In 14 games he has 2 goals and 4 assists and is a -1. He has 6 PIM.

It's just interesting to see how these guys are doing even though they bailed on us.

This may run some people wrong but he has actually stepped it up over the past month. He actually should be still playing in the OHL but decided to play up.

  7. Criteria....

    Records

    Conference records

    Tourney appearenes

    National titles

    Pros produced

    All go into the conversation,

Then set a frame of time.

If we are talking 70s then no UND isn't in the top our

But the PAST TEN years is the time frame.

1: BC It just is what it is.

    2: UND

    3: Michigan

    Minnesota doesnt make the cut...

Now if we throw in to the criteria,

Throwing limp wristed punches from behind officials, diving , and blond hair dye well then they can be considerd.

Toss in whining and they go #1, or counting hundreds of wins over amateur town teams in in the 1800s

Haha I like it. My great grandfather played for one of those amateur teams in the early 1900s and they actually used to beat und quite consistently.

  8. how you want to rank the best programs depends on what your criteria are. nat titles? frozen four appearances? conference championships? ncaa tournament appearances? if you uses all of these mich, und and minny are all right there with the edge going to mich as the number one.

A blend of all things you mentioned...and if indeed MN's blended totals are top 3 I will change my stance on them.

  9. I wonder how much Mitch McMillan will figure in things beginning the second half?

That is what I'm wondering too. He had a great junior career but he didn't do anything for SCSU....that's why I was wondering why Hak would take him. He did have great chemistry with his bro in juniors, but that was in juniors. Some people may think SCSU didn't give him a chance but if he was that talented one would think he would have played. Hak must know something, but 11pts in 42 games is borderline 2nd line D territory.

  10. Right now BC is clearly the best but not historically. Minnesota, UND, and Michigan in any order are the three best programs of all time IMO.

MN produces the most kids....it does not have the best program (top 5 I mean). It should be up there but it isn't. They have historically not built the right teams...as far as makeup. They should always be great...but they're not. I believe they are a very good team this year....but the past ten years I would not say so (can't remember which years they went back to back). After those Nat'l titles their teams were always under-achieving. After Pots and irmen left they were not even making the post-season or were losing the first game. With the stock pile of kids they have in that state that play hockey there is no reason they don't compete every single year.

  11. Talking point:

UND is down 4-1, and is going on a powerplay and given a penalty shot in the same sequence. The shot has to be taken by a guy that is a goal scorer on your team, but nothing spectacular.

Do you do what Tech did and risk missing the penalty shot (we all know goalies have a big advantage) and blowing the powerplay, or do you turn down the penalty shot and have a 5-3 powerplay for a full two minutes?

As a former coach with my team down 4-1, struggling to get anything going offensively, and at a critical point in the game. I take the 5-3 to try and get some momentum going, at least even in the offensive end for a bit. I think you have a better chance of getting one on a 5-3 than you do on a penalty shot against a goaltender that is playing well.

    Thoughts?

I think I would also take the 5x3, unless I had some stud that scored a high clip in shootouts.

  12. .....a week-and-a-half later he responds.... LOL

    I guess I struck a nerve.

If I were to name the #1 college hockey program in the country (un-biasedly) for the past 10 years I would honestly have to say BC, however, I would rank us as #2 simply because of how far we get each year, the talent we produce, fan base, etc. I think your inner troll is coming out.

  13. That kicker interference penalty was one of the dumbest penalties I have ever witnessed. I don't watch a lot of FCS football but that was so irresponsible...they would have had it inside the 50 even if he would have fair caught it. At least a 10 point swing.
