  1. Grimaldi looked really good today. He got more and more ice time as the game went on. He was flying out there and he made some nice passes and took care of the puck.

Everybody looked good today. Same time tomorrow we play Canada for a ticket to the gold medal game.

Final was 7-0 USA, Gadreau was the PotG with a hat trick.

Yeah, I thought he looked good too. I wished he could have hit the stat sheet....to bad he's playing with Biggs, that guy is so overrated.

  2. Or maybe they promised him the moon, like they always do. I hope it works out for him, but a lot of kids get burned by the CHL and their over-the-top promises of NHL success.

Maybe...but I believe many of those teams are under the microscope after Portland and that other team finally were caught cheating.

  3. Aside from a couple of these guys being Canadian, I agree.

I do suppose we should really reserve judgement until the tourney is over. It's not like we we had our doors blown off by Canada and Russia.

True. I don't think it was the worst move in the world to have Housley as coach. He has been a tremendous representative of US hockey for over 20 years I believe. He would also a very good player. The assistants were somewhat surprising however.

  4. I still like the idea of ripping off tons of shots....but u need playmakers as well. I seriously think he got under someone's skin and something boiled over in the locker room. Rocco is a different kind of hockey player....I bet some things he's does (which we love to hear about) makes other in the locker room including certain coaches annoyed with him. I know I probably didn't write that well but honestly I am a huge Rocco fan I just have heard (similar with tebow in the nfl) that certain people get annoyed with all the preaching. Again just looking for ideas.

  5. That's not point, it's the principal. Its irritates me cuz to me it's saying Greg Sh*tbreath is going to see what he wants to see. I know the score was 8 to 1 but what if minni was playing a wcha team and that goal decided who was going to the final 5 or who won the final 5, he would've just given it to the goofers. it irritates me cuz it doesnt seem like the rule even mattered its what he wanted to see. I'm just getting sick of that stuff happening and people looking the other way saying it is what it is!

Lets get one thing straight....shepards and formerly campion are actually hard core gopher fans. This is truth.

  6. Just watched the US vs CAN replay and there were a few passes Rocco could have made instead of shooting but overall I simply do not get why it was determined he was playing "selfishly". If one of those shots would have went in vs CAN he would have been the hero...I'm still stumped on why he was benched.

  7. From what I've seen during the World Juniors, Rocco was the best player. I believe that Miller and Jones would have beneifitted from playing at UND.

After doing some digging the last three National Titles UND has won 1987, 1997, and 2000 UND didn't send anyone to the World Junior Tournament (that would be the 1986, 1996, and 1999 tournaments).

    I am still so confused...

  8. If I was Hakstol or any D1 coach I wouldn't send players to the World Junior Tournament. I know it's a once and a life time oppertunity, but I rather see UND win a National Title then Team USA win a medal. I know people won't agree with me on that.

You are obviously not a big hockey fan then. By Rocco missing two games against HC...I don't think that will cost us a Naty. We'll be just fine...the US needs him...he'll be back strong against the Czechs.

  9. How was he losing it? I saw him yell lets go after one shift...not questioning you, just trying to figure out why they would sit him.

No worries, I saw him yelling on the bench and while he was coming off the ice. Sorry, maybe I should not have said "losing it" but he was visibly yelling. I have heard from some pretty decent sources that Rocco is pretty hard on himself, maybe he got carried away with the emotions of a US vs CAN game. I know he hates losing; I'm guessing he did something that Phil didn't like because he definitely was sat and he was definitely one of their best players against both RUS and CAN. He'll be back next game.

  10. I thought Grimaldi was the best US player against both RUS and CAN....I did see him lose it on the bench a few times. I figured he was trying to pump up the players....he obviously went a tad too far.

As for Seth Jones...besides the Germany game I thought he has been one of the weaker defensemen on their team.

  11. Oh, that again? Why do you care so much about what I think that you brought it up out of nowhere? Because it's true.

You should've waited a couple of weeks to respond like you did last time. That way you would at least have time to formulate a coherent and relevant response to my post.

    Messy.

  12. That's a great straw man that you've set up for yourself to rail against. I'm sure there are a TON of UND fans that don't care about winning national titles. :silly:

The real thing I would watch out for is people like you that crap on any accomplishment that isn't an NCAA tournament title. Sometimes, I'm afraid to mention anything positive about UND hockey's accomplishments, so who needs to watch out for whom?

In fact, I think I was the only person that even made a case for UND as the best program in the country and brought up the positives about our program. Most people are probably afraid to even mention it because you and fightingsioux4life will jump on them, because "It's not a NATIONAL TITLE  !!!1"

Now, what were you saying about all these imaginary people that don't care about winning national titles?

Don't worry....he must be a gopher fan right?

  13. I thought the US outplayed RUS for all but a few shifts and then the last 10 minutes of the game. The refs were extremely inconsistent, however, the US should have capitalized on some of those early chances. That RUS goalie played very well.

  14. I think you're right, even if he would have showed up I feel like he would have had one foot out the door all year and bolted at the first chance...it's his career choice but you can't build a program around a one and done player, I was irked at the timing but in retrospect it probably wasn't the worst thing.

I was very irked at the time....and through the entire year. After I heard some things about him from some kid that played on his development team I knew he would have never been a "Sioux-guy". I differ from your stance on one and done guys as they truly are a marketing tool for the program, however, they must be team players while they are here. Miller would have never been a team player because he plays for himself only.

  15. Ok we need to let the miller bashing go....in all I think we're better off without him. I heard from a great source that at some US summer camp he was cocking off about how he would sign with any team if given the right deal. He wasn't coming all along. He didn't even play for his ohl team this year because he thought he was too good....hes playing in the ahl as a result. Hopefully he plays good during this tourney because the US needs all they can get this year with the lockout loading the Canadian and Russian teams.

Edit: no I am not a fan of his but it makes our program better when high profile players consider us....either way we always have stacked teams.

  16. Now I get what the reference was; I guess I don't follow all the recruiting stuff. I honestly don't care who verbals for what team, who looks like a "big, strong kid", blah, blah, blah. I would rather watch paint dry.

As for JT Miller, what anybody else did does not excuse his two-faced, back-stabbing decision. He made his choice and whatever happens as a result of that is something he will have to live with. Our program will continue either way.

  17. Because so many nice things were said on this site about Miller and Matteau after they de-committed? I have news for you people. GPL and Siouxsports are nearly identical message boards, with identical opinions, simply different fan bases. I know Gopher fans like to think they're different(better) than Sioux fans and Sioux fans like to think they're different(better) than Gopher fans but in reality the fan bases are more similar than not.

True. Gopher fans like to think they are better because a large % of players come from MN while ND fans think they are better due to more championships.

  18. Just watching him as an 8th grader absolutly schooling players that were up to 5 years older than him was special. Hes got awesome hands and vision which always make for a good playmaker. Throw in some speed and hard nosed defensive mentality and he could develope into a special player.

Also can't understate how important it is to have grand forks kids (when they're good enough) on the team.

I totally agree....it's so good for the community. Anyways, I'm hoping for a better second half out of Johnson.
