  1. Thanks, I noticed the deadline is December 10, that's pretty quick so they must be hoping someone is watching and ready to pounce. I hope they get at least a couple really good prospects.

What was Mussman making this year, I see the minimum is 150 but I'm sure for the right guy that could increase?

yeah... I think minimum is a key wording there

  2. Everyone's choice on why they attend or don't attend. I attended because I thought the seniors deserved a send-off they signed on 4-5 years ago at the start of transitiion knowing the schedule was going to be brutal, I'm thinking Great West wasn't signed on yet so no chance for all conference honors when they signed, but they came and are now Sioux for life and they deserved to have someone cheering for them at their last home game.

Thought about it see Hardin play one last time, but I live in Williston now, went to 4 games... it's a long drive and expensive and the product was really really hard to watch in some of those games. Decided I'd go to a hockey weekend later instead with those resources.

  3. Then how about this guy:

    http://www.iupathlet...7&path=football

-Over 25 years as a D-I assistant and was the recruiting coordinator at NC State when they had two top 10 recruiting classes in the early 00's.

-WR coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama for four years under Nick Saban.

-Currently head coach at D2 IUP (28-7 record over three seasons)

-Father was one of the most successful coaches in D2 history at IUP, brother has also been very successful and is a position coach for the STL Rams (reminds me of the Harbaugh family)

-Mirrors his program after Saban (build from lines out, I believe he has certain minimum "measurables" for every position on the field)

-Named one of the top 25 recruiters in the country by Rivals.com

-Has recruiting contacts all over the country/ would have the ability to bring in FBS transfers

The only negative is that he doesn't have any experience in this area of the country, but I bet he'd be smart enough to hire some assistants that do.

    What's not to like?

I'd take anyone whose worked with Saban. I'd consider his shoe shiner.

If we get a Saban protege, you can say goodbye to opening drive*. It'll be business and a tight ship, no feel good stuff.

  4. Very interesting. Minimum salary will be $150,000, which is already more than Mussman made. Plus it emphasizes NFL experience. Really looks like Tibesar and/or Bollinger are in play here.

When they posted the assistant hockey coach position, it really seemed to tailor Brad Berry, suggesting it was a forgone conclusion. Maybe they are hinting here too.

Hinting may be the wrong term, but putting the fix in for their guy.

  5. Nelson tweeted that the Faison/Mussman meeting was "very emotional".

Is that the nice way of saying Chris cried?

Both probably did. Seems irrelevant though and unnecessary to bring up.

That being the case though, I'm guessing that if it was that tough of thing for Brian to do, he has a pretty good idea what direction he wants to go in.

  6. Firing Mussman in the middle of the season would have accomplished absolutely nothing.

You do realize there is still a week left in the regular season right? Please explain how your last sentence makes any sense?

compared to all that was accomplished in the last few months anyways ???

It should have been done the year they won the GWC. We should have lost to Sioux Falls that year. Muss should donate most of the salary he's earned since then to Brent Goska.

  7. IDK, but the silence is a bit deafening. While there is never a good time to fire a coach, this might be the best time for UND to do so. Plenty of time to get new HC and staff in, transition the recruiting "folders" to new staff and let them get out on the road and meet with recruits. The longer it takes to fire Muss, the worse it will be for UND football.

Not sure what is going to happen, but a decision needs to be made by Faison immediately. Perhaps the fact that no presser has been called means the decision was or had already been made prior to SUU game.

Did I not hear somewhere that Faison stated that Muss would be back next year? I thought I heard that a week or so back.

and the silence you hear... is the Alerus Center next year

  8. I haven't heard much. Just from one person that thinks Mussman will get one more year. They have no authority on the matter and could easily be wrong. I hope they are.

    unsettling and unreal

  9. Let's make no mistake that when Muss is let go that it will not be a "good" day for this team, program and university. Coaches and families will be put in situations of unrest and the unknown and without jobs. That is never a "good" thing. It will also be an admission by Faison that his hire of Muss from within the program was a mistake and the 6 years of "damage" to this program will be evident for a least a couple more years to come IMO. At some point a change will and has to be made, but as an alum and supporter of UND athletics it won't be a "good" day when a change is made...but this once proud FB program can't continue on the course it's currently on.

  10. I know his background and I believe he's a great coach, I just think one should be cautious when considering a 34 year old coach who has no experience as a college head coach. He would be one of the youngest head coaches in the country if he was hired. I think the youngest FBS coach is 32 and he coaches at Western Michigan.

Mike Tomlin was one of the youngest NFL coaches ever. If you're the guy you're the guy. Equal opportunity employer right? No ageism.

  11. This is part of my point. I don't see anything enticing about coming to UND as the head guy for him. It seems like an enormous step backwards, regardless of money. Where do you go from UND? He is already in a great position as a DC at a Mid level FBS school who has schoolsposition coach hasexperience at a major FBS program. Not to mention a national championship as a DC in FCS.

Just seems to me like UND wouldn't be a move in the right direction for his career.

I am just surprised to hear his name come up on this board.

That's a fair question. This board isn't a search committee but rather a wish list. The idea would be he has success here and gets his chance at fbs a la Jerry Kill. As far as FCS and the open positions UND still isn't that bad of choice for the rank despite the last few years. Talk to event promoters who do stuff for other schools. North Dakota has great support for its sports. Ask objective opinions and it's disporportionately impressive.

  12. Honest question, because his name has come up multiple times as a replacement.

What makes anyone on this board think he will take the UND job if offered. He is an NDSU guy, I honestly doubt he would want to coach at UND. Could be wrong though.

Ego or ambition for being the head guy. I and most assume the replacement will make marketably more than Mussman. Maybe ndsu is the most loyal place in the world but I think most people look at job offers on an individual basis as in what's best for their career goals and what's best for the well being of their family. Case in point, this weekend we saw a former player coach against us in our marquee sport.

  13. This post still haunts the thread. If the people green_sioux is talking about are as well connected as he makes it sound, this board may implode next week. Really curious about what is going on behind those closed doors.

I won't implode. It'll be pretty tough to care though. If the mussman era has a theme song its build me buttercup. I'm not gonna get builtup to be let down again. I let it affect my mood too many Saturdays this year. I'll just kinda be over und football for a while. Fool meonce....

  14. I'm so glad this season is over. I doubt I'm alone. When most of the fanbase feels that way it speaks more than an online post can.

Give me a reason to be excited next year.

  15. So I guess I am assuming that it would be a shock if Muss is the coach still on Tuesday?

Mass hysteria on this thread... bowels would be voided due to shock
